The low enrolment of children with disabilities (CWDs) is one of the issues that inders the implementation of inclusive education in Burkina Faso. We conducted a questionnaire focusing on institutional aspect and received responses from 58 stakeholders in the field of education. From the questionnaire, we found that even though a National Strategy is implemented, its focus is for girl’s education and not dedicated for CWDs. We also found that there is an absence of system to collect data to implement effective inclusive education. Another issue is lack of public schools and trained teachers to implement inclusive education at primary level. We, therefore, must overcome these hindrances to conduct effective implementation of inclusive education at primary level.departmental bulletin pape

Evaluation of peripheral enhancement on contrast-enhanced computed tomography and corresponding pathological findings in colorectal liver metastases after preoperative chemotherapy

Purpose: To correlate peripheral enhancement on contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CE-CT) in patients with post-chemotherapy colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) with the corresponding pathological findings. Material and methods: Forty-four patients with CRLM who underwent hepatic resection after preoperative chemotherapy between 2008 and 2013 were included. Two radiologists blinded to the histopathology findings performed a consensus categorization of the marginal contrast effects of CRLM on CE-CT as follows: Group 1, smooth margin without enhancement; Group 2, smooth margin with an enhanced rim; and Group 3, fuzzy margin with/without an enhanced rim. The Kruskal-Wallis test was used to compare the imaging findings with the histological findings. Results: The percentage of infarct-like necrosis was significantly higher in those with CRLM with smooth margins than in those with CRLM with fuzzy margins (p < 0.001, r = 0.62). The percentage of viable cells was lowest in CRLM with smooth margins without enhancement (p < 0.001, r = 0.60). Conclusions: Our findings suggest that the type of necrosis is related to the nature of the margins, and the presence of residual cells is related to peripheral enhancement

A Comparative Analysis of Assessment Practices in Burkina Faso and Japanese Primary Schools

    Get PDF
Burkina Faso has implemented many educational reforms until today, but the quality of learning remains as a challenge. Research suggests that methods of assessing students are one of the most significant influences on their learning. Therefore, our study focuses on continuous assessment and analyze the issue of low performance, from the perspective of assessment policies and practices in Burkina Faso primary schools. Since the Japanese education system ranks among the best in the world, the study compares the assessment systems in both countries and highlights differences and similarities and suggests that there is much for Burkina Faso to learn from Japan. This paper aims at investigating policies and practices of classroom assessment and identifying related issues in Burkina Faso by presenting and discussing the result of literature reviews conducted in both countries

Teaching Method in Mathematics Education : Neediness of the Paradigm Shift to Structured Problem-Solving Approach at Junior High School in Burkina Faso

Burkina School system is composed of Basic, Secondary, and Higher Education. Studentsʼ academic performance in Mathematics at all levels of this schooling are affected by many factors. One of these factors is the way of teaching used in junior high school. That is why this paper is advocating a shift in the pedagogical teaching in Mathematics. Regarding the weakness of the lecture and other teaching pedagogy in Mathematics, we consider Japanese Structured Problem-Solving (SPS) approach as a better alternative. The SPS approach is based on whole-class discussions with various solutions by students. It is a method that helps students to be more interactive and get intellectually engaged with their pair. The choice of Japanese SPS is based on my experience in Japan and also on several research studies that confirmed its effectiveness. Some theories in this study are constructivism and social constructivism because they viewed learning as discussion with argumentation and Interactions. We suggested the use of SPS in Burkina Faso junior high school to raise students\u27 Mathematics performance

The purpose of this paper is to find the issue of mathematics education at junior high school in Burkina Faso. We start by a prescription of mathematics teaching in the curriculum related to 1) objectives, 2) pedagogical methodology including methods of teaching and lesson structure, and 3) student\u27s performance. Then, we will analyze what is obtained in the practice, and the problems that need to be confronted. From this analysis, we will find some recommendations to improve mathematics teaching and learning at junior high schools in Burkina Faso
