    Energy-momentum tensor correlation function in Nf=2+1 full QCD at finite temperature

    We measure correlation functions of the nonperturbatively renormalized energy-momentum tensor in Nf=2+1N_f=2+1 full QCD at finite temperature by applying the gradient flow method both to the gauge and quark fields. Our main interest is to study the conservation law of the energy-momentum tensor and to test whether the linear response relation is properly realized for the entropy density. By using the linear response relation we calculate the specific heat from the correlation function. We adopt the nonperturbatively improved Wilson fermion and Iwasaki gauge action at a fine lattice spacing =0.07=0.07 fm. In this paper the temperature is limited to a single value T=232T=232 MeV. The uu, dd quark mass is rather heavy with mπ/mρ=0.63m_\pi/m_\rho=0.63 while the ss quark mass is set to approximately its physical value.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures.     How to distinguish the Haldane/Large-D state and the intermediate-D state in an S=2 quantum spin chain with the XXZ and on-site anisotropies

    We numerically investigate the ground-state phase diagram of an S=2 quantum spin chain with the XXZXXZ and on-site anisotropies described by H=j(SjxSj+1x+SjySj+1y+ΔSjzSj+1z)+Dj(Sjz)2{\mathcal H}=\sum_j (S_j^x S_{j+1}^x+S_j^y S_{j+1}^y+\Delta S_j^z S_{j+1}^z) + D \sum_j (S_j^z)^2, where Δ\Delta denotes the XXZ anisotropy parameter of the nearest-neighbor interactions and DD the on-site anisotropy parameter. We restrict ourselves to the Δ>0\Delta>0 and D>0D>0 case for simplicity. Our main purpose is to obtain the definite conclusion whether there exists or not the intermediate-DD (ID) phase, which was proposed by Oshikawa in 1992 and has been believed to be absent since the DMRG studies in the latter half of 1990's. In the phase diagram with Δ>0\Delta>0 and D>0D>0 there appear the XY state, the Haldane state, the ID state, the large-DD (LD) state and the N\'eel state. In the analysis of the numerical data it is important to distinguish three gapped states; the Haldane state, the ID state and the LD state.     CpG oligodeoxynucleotides induce strong up-regulation of interleukin 33 via Toll-like receptor 9

    We previously reported the strong immunostimulatory effects of a CpG oligodeoxynucleotide (ODN), designated MsST, from the lacZ gene of Streptococcus (S.) thermophilus ATCC19258. Here we show that 24 h of stimulation with MsST in mouse splenocytes and peritoneal macrophages strongly induces expression of interleukin (IL)-33, a cytokine in the IL-1 superfamily. Other IL-1 superfamily members, including IL-1 alpha, IL-1 beta and IL-18, are down-regulated after 24 h of stimulation of MsST. We also found that MsST-induced IL-33 mRNA expression is inhibited by the suppressive ODN A151, which can inhibit Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9)-mediated responses. This is the first report to show that IL-33 can be induced by CpG ODNs. The strong induction of IL-33 by MsST suggests that it may be a potential therapeutic ODN for the treatment of inflammatory disease.     Identification of a potent immunostimulatory oligodeoxynucleotide from Streptococcus thermophilus lacZ

    Immunostimulatory sequences of oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs), such as CpG ODNs, are potent stimulators of innate immunity. Here, we identified a strong immunostimulatory CpG ODN, which we named MsST, from the lac Z gene of Streptococcus (S.) thermophilus ATCC19258, and we evaluated its immune functions. In in vitro studies, MsST had a similar ability as the murine prototype CpG ODN 1555 to induce inflammatory cytokine production and cell proliferation. In mouse splenocytes, MsST increased the number of CD80+CD11c+and CD86+CD11c+ dendritic cells and CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells. We also analyzed the effects of MsST on the expression of regulatory cytokines by real-time quantitative PCR. MsST was more potent at inducing interleukin-10 expression than the ODN control 1612, indicating that MsST can augment the regulatory T cell response via Toll-like receptor 9, which plays an important role in suppressing T helper type 2 responses. These results suggest that S. thermophilus, whose genes include a strong Immunostimulatory sequence-ODN, is a good candidate for a starter culture to develop new physiologically functional foods and feeds.ArticleANIMAL SCIENCE JOURNAL. 80(5):597-604 (2009)journal articl
