Heterogeneity within the Asian American community

BACKGROUND: Educational interventions are grounded on scientific data and assumptions about the community to be served. While the Pan Asian community is composed of multiple, ethnic subgroups, it is often treated as a single group for which one health promotion program will be applicable for all of its cultural subgroups. Compounding this stereotypical view of the Pan Asian community, there is sparse data about the cultural subgroups' similarities and dissimilarities. The Asian Grocery Store based cancer education program evaluation data provided an opportunity to compare data collected under identical circumstances from members of six Asian American cultural groups. METHODS: A convenience sample of 1,202 Asian American women evaluated the cultural alignment of a cancer education program, completing baseline and follow-up surveys that included questions about their breast cancer knowledge, attitudes, and screening behaviors. Participants took part in a brief education program that facilitated adherence to recommended screening guidelines. RESULTS: Unique recruitment methods were needed to attract participants from each ethnic group. Impressions gained from the aggregate data revealed different insights than the disaggregate data. Statistically significant variations existed among the subgroups' breast cancer knowledge, attitudes, and screening behaviors that could contribute to health disparities among the subgroups and within the aggregate Pan Asian community. CONCLUSION: Health promotion efforts of providers, educators, and policy makers can be enhanced if cultural differences are identified and taken into account when developing strategies to reduce health disparities and promote health equity

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>In this paper, the kinetics of oxidation of [CrIII(HIDA)(Val)(H2O)2]+ and [CrIII(HIDA)(Arg)(H2O)2]+ (HIDA = iminodiacetic acid, Val = DL-valine and Arg = L-arginine) were studied. The choice of ternary complexes was attributed to two considerations. Firstly, in order to study the effect of the secondary ligands DL-valine and L-arginine on the stability of binary complex [CrIII(HIDA)(IDA)(H2O)] towards oxidation. Secondly, transition metal ternary complexes have received particular focus and have been employed in mapping protein surfaces as probes for biological redox centers and in protein capture for both purification and study.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The results have shown that the reaction is first order with respect to both [IO4-] and the complex concentration, and the rate increases over the pH range 2.62 – 3.68 in both cases. The experimental rate law is consistent with a mechanism in which both the deprotonated forms of the complexes [CrIII(IDA)(Val)(H2O)2] and [CrIII(IDA)(Arg)(H2O)2] are significantly more reactive than the conjugate acids. The value of the intramolecular electron transfer rate constant for the oxidation of [CrIII(HIDA)(Arg)(H2O)2]+, <it>k</it>3 (1.82 × 10-3 s-1), is greater than the value of <it>k</it>1 (1.22 × 10-3 s-1) for the oxidation of [CrIII(HIDA)(Val)(H2O)2]+ at 45.0°C and <it>I </it>= 0.20 mol dm-3. It is proposed that electron transfer proceeds through an inner-sphere mechanism <it>via </it>coordination of IO4- to chromium(III).</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The oxidation of [CrIII(HIDA)(Val)(H2O)2]+ and [CrIII(HIDA)(Arg)(H2O)2]+ by periodate may proceed through an inner-sphere mechanism via two electron transfer giving chromium(VI). The value of the intramolecular electron transfer rate constant for the oxidation of [CrIII(HIDA)(Arg)(H2O)2]+, <it>k</it>3, is greater than the value of <it>k</it>1 for the oxidation of [CrIII(HIDA)(Val)(H2O)2]+. A common mechanism for the oxidation of ternary iminodiacetatochromium(III) complexes by periodate is proposed, and this is supported by an excellent isokinetic relationship between ΔH* and ΔS* values for these reactions.</p

Immunization is one of the efforts to increase the degree of health in a promotive and preventive manner in accordance with the vision of health development, namely healthy Indonesia. The coverage of Universal Child Immunization (UCI) in Jember Regency reached 60.89% while the achievement target was 80%. The survey results in the Village of Kemuning Lor of 15 mothers who have babies obtained the results that about 60% of immunization is incomplete. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the level of maternal knowledge about immunization and the completeness of basic immunization in infants in the Kemuning Lor Village, Arjasa District, Jember Regency. The research design is cross-sectional that is concurrent data collection. The population of mothers who have babies is 57 babies. The sample size is 50 people with random sampling technique. The results showed that the level of maternal knowledge was sufficient (48%), Good (18%), lacking (34%). Incomplete infant immunization (62%), and incomplete (38%). Chi square analysis obtained values of x2 count (17,473)&gt; x2 table (4,591), with a significance value of 0,000 &lt;0.05, the hypothesis is accepted, meaning that there is a relationship between the level of maternal knowledge about immunization with the completeness of immunization in infants with a significant or moderate relationship. It is recommended to mothers to increase knowledge about immunization by searching from various sources, this is expected to improve health behavior, especially immunizatio

Breast milk supplement is food besides breast feeding for babies at 6 months years old or more (Sunaryo, 2008). When the age of the babies increase, the baby\u27s need for nutritions food also increases. The introduction and giving of the supplement should be suited with the age, ability to digest and to receive food and be also given gradually in term of texture, consistency, portion and frequency.&nbsp; According to data taken from monthly nutrition report at Pustu Kaliwining and Puskesmas Rambipuji, we know that 80 % babies get breast feeding supplement early and 6,4 % experiencing bad nutrition. This research was made in order to analysis the accuracy relation about giving food besides breast feeding and the nutrition status of the babies. This study was an analytic where the data were obtained through a cross sectional design and the population was 186 persons. The sample was 127 babies&nbsp;and their mothers. It was taken using a proporsional stratified random sampling and with Chi Square analysis.&nbsp; The results showed that the breast feeding supplement was given correctly (36 %) and incorrectly (64 %). And from the criteria of the nutrition status on the bais of body\u27s weight (Health Care Record), it was shown that there were 68 % babies with good nutrition status, 9 % with bad nutrition status and 23 % inadequate nutrition status.&nbsp;Based on the statistical test of Chi Square using SPSS For Windows, it is known that there is a conclusion between the accuracy in giving breast feeding supplement and the nutrition status of the babies in 0-12 months years old as shown by p cost is lower than α cost 0,05. It is suggested that midwives have to more active in order to give information about the importance giving breast feeding supplement exactly to mothers in the various meeting

TB disease is often associated with a slum environment. People who live in densely populated and poorly ventilated conditions are most likely to be infected. Environmental factors that can affect the incidence of pulmonary TB include ventilation in the room, humidity, temperature, lighting, type of floor, and the act of opening a window. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of ventilation and occupancy density with cross transmission of pulmonary tuberculosis in the family. This research is presented in the form of quantitative research with a correlational research design. While the approach used in this research is Cross Sectional. The population in this study was 60 respondents with a sample of 53 respondents. The sampling technique used in this study is total sampling. The results of the bivariate analysis with the Lambda test obtained a value of 0.003 &lt;0.05 ie there is a relationship between ventilation and cross-transmission of pulmonary tuberculosis in the family. And also obtained a value of 0.001 &lt;0.05, namely there is a relationship of residential density with the transmission of pulmonary tuberculosis in the family. The conclusion of this study is that if ventilation that does not meet the requirements is likely to not occur cross-pulmonary TB transmission in the family, while ventilation that meets the requirements can occur cross-pulmonary TB transmission in the family. If the density of occupancy does not meet the requirements, it is possible that there is no cross-transmission of pulmonary tuberculosis in the family, while occupancy density that occurs may occur cross-transmission of pulmonary TB in the famil
