Relative commutants of strongly self-absorbing C*-algebras
The relative commutant of a strongly self-absorbing
algebra is indistinguishable from its ultrapower . This
applies both to the case when is the hyperfinite II factor and to the
case when it is a strongly self-absorbing C*-algebra. In the latter case we
prove analogous results for and reduced powers
corresponding to other filters on . Examples of algebras with
approximately inner flip and approximately inner half-flip are provided,
showing the optimality of our results. We also prove that strongly
self-absorbing algebras are smoothly classifiable, unlike the algebras with
approximately inner half-flip.Comment: Some minor correction
Development of optimised MRI contrast agents for copper(I) click reactions
This research has been focused on synthesising three gadolinium(III) 1,4,7-triacetic acid-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane (DO3A) macrocyclic complexes (Gd6, Gd7, Gd8) as potential T1 MRI contrast agents. Alkyne derivativised chelators were synthesised with three different alkyne pendent arms (propargyl, propargyl acetamide and butyne) which are suitable for Cu(I) catalysed cycloaddition ‘click’ chemistry with azide derivatives to form 1,2,3-triazole rings.Triazole formation with benzyl azide was used as “proof of concept” to form chelators and gadolinium complexes (Gd6, Gd7, Gd8) that could be assessed for their properties as MRI contrast agents. One of the complexes was then selected for conjugation with an azide derivative of a thymidine DNA base (AZT, a clinically approved drug molecule) to link via the triazole group and demonstrate the widespread utility of this approach.Relaxivity measurements were carried out on the synthesised gadolinium(III) complexes to evaluate their potential as MRI contrast agents with Gd8 showing the highest T1relaxivity result. Therefore, Gd8 (relaxivity, 5.74 mM-1 s-1) was conjugated with the DNA base derivatives (3’-Azido-3’-deoxythymidine, AZT) to give the desired product in an 89% yield with a relaxivity of 4.33 mM-1 s-1 indicating the potential of these compounds for future in vivo applications in MRI studies
FRB microstructure revealed by the real-time detection of FRB170827
We report a new fast radio burst (FRB) discovered in real-time as part of the UTMOST project at the Molonglo Observatory Synthesis Radio Telescope. FRB170827 was first detected with our low-latency (20 ± 7 Jy ms, and is narrow with a width of ∼400 s at 10 per cent of its maximum amplitude. However, the burst shows three temporal components, the narrowest of which is ∼30 s, and a scattering time-scale of 4.1 ± 2.7 s. The FRB shows spectral modulations on frequency scales of 1.5 MHz and 0.1 MHz. Both are prominent in the dynamic spectrum, which shows a very bright region of emission between 841 and 843 MHz, and weaker and patchy emission across the entire band. We show that the fine spectral structure could arise in the FRB host galaxy, or its immediate vicinity
Inflammatory myopathy occurring shortly after severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 vaccination: two case reports
Background: Vaccination remains the cornerstone approach to exiting the current global coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The novel messenger ribonucleic acid vaccines offer a high level of protection and are widely used throughout the world. With more people receiving the vaccines, better understanding of their relative safety can be reached. In this report, we describe two patients who developed inflammatory myopathy within 48 hours of receiving the Pfizer BNT162b2 vaccine. Case presentation: Patient A, a 55-year-old South East Asian woman, presented with a 6-week history of pruritic facial and torso rash and a 1-week history of worsening proximal myopathy. Her rash first developed 2 days after receiving the first dose of BNT162b2 vaccine. Patient B, a 72-year-old Caucasian woman, presented with a 2-week history of proximal myopathy a day after receiving the second dose of BNT162b2 vaccine. Both patients had elevated creatine kinase on admission. Patient A tested positive for anti-Mi-2a antibody and anti-Ro-52 antibody, while Patient B was positive for anti-fibrillarin antibody. Magnetic resonance imaging subsequently confirmed generalized acute muscle inflammation and subcutaneous inflammation consistent with inflammatory myositis. Both patients did not have a previous history or family history of autoimmune disease. Patients A and B were diagnosed with dermatomyositis and inflammatory myositis, respectively. They were initially treated with pulsed intravenous methylprednisolone followed by oral prednisolone. However, as their conditions were resistant to corticosteroids, both eventually received and responded well to intravenous immunoglobulin therapy. Conclusion: There are previously reported cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2-induced and other vaccine-related inflammatory myopathies. However, the precise mechanisms are not elucidated. Without more evidence and convincing pathophysiology, it is not possible to conclude that our patients developed inflammatory myopathy because of the vaccine. However, the timing of the disease onset and the lack of previous history raise an important question of this novel messenger ribonucleic acid therapy
A Study on the Physicochemical Properties of the Selected Ponds of Patna Town, Bihar, India
With the progress of the urbanization and industrialization, many types of water pollutants (such as pesticide, heavy metals, detergents, municipal wastes, domestic wastes and fertilizers) were generated. These pollutants were distributed into the environment by the different sources. These pollutants were distributed into the environment by the different sources. In this research paper, physicochemical characteristic of water samples from selected ponds in and around Patna, Bihar has been studied. The parameters observed were Temperature, pH, Electrical conductivity, Calcium, Phosphate, Total Hardness, Alkalinity, Chloride, Dissolved oxygen, Free CO2 and Nitrate. It can be concluded that the water parameters which were taken for the present study were above the pollution level of surface water which does not satisfy their requirement for the use of various purposes. In this investigation, a brief attempt has been made to study the extent of change in the quality of water in comparison to water quality standards of World Health Organization (WHO)
Pengaruh Bauran Promosi terhadap Keputusan Pembelian Dunkin' Donuts Bandung
In order to be competitive a company has to offer good value propotition to the consumers. It is also necessary for company to shape good image on consumers. Dunkin Donuts is one of food and beverages company that is succeed to attract consumers to buy its products using buy 6 get 6 market branding strategy. This research aimed to analyze the impact of promotion mix to the consumers decision for Dunkin Donuts products purchase partially. Quantitative approach was designed to answer the research question. Descriptive causal analysis was used as the method of this research with questionnaire given to Bandung people for data collection. For total 385 responden, nonprobability sampling method was chosen. Data analysis was quantified using simple linear regression method. The results showed that promotion mix has positive impact on consumers decision for dunkin donuts products purchase. It could be seen that t calculated is greater than t table (16,484>1,649) using statistical significance at 0.05. According to the determination coefficient (R2) calculation concluded that the impact value of promotion mix variable on consumers purchase decision was 41.5%. For 58.5% was influenced by other factors which was not included in this research
Psychological Well-Being in Childhood and Cardiometabolic Risk in Middle Adulthood: Findings From the 1958 British Birth Cohort
Childhood adversity is linked to poor cardiometabolic outcomes, but less is known about positive childhood factors. Using data from 4,007 members of the 1958 British Birth Cohort, we investigated whether children with greater psychological well-being had lower adulthood cardiometabolic risk. At age 11, participants wrote essays about their future. Two judges rated each essay for nine psychological well-being items (Finn’s r = .82–.91), which were combined into a standardized overall score (Cronbach’s α = .91). When participants reached age 45, nurses assessed their blood pressure, heart rate, lipids, glycosylated hemoglobin, fibrinogen, and C-reactive protein, which were standardized and summed for total cardiometabolic risk. Regressions indicated that children with greater psychological well-being had lower cardiometabolic risk (b = −0.14, 95% confidence interval [CI] = [−0.28, −0.006]): specifically, healthier total cholesterol (b = −0.04, 95% CI = [−0.07, −0.003]) and triglycerides (b = −0.06, 95% CI = [−0.09, −0.02]). Childhood psychological well-being may promote adulthood cardiometabolic health
Transition metal-free domino acyl substitution/Michael addition of alkenyl Grignard reagents to lactam esters: synthesis of lactam-bearing homoallylic ketones
A solvent-controlled protocol for the direct and transition metal-free addition of alkenyl Grignard reagents to vicinally functionalized sp3-rich morpholinones has been developed, leading to the chemo and regioselective synthesis of lactam-bearing homoallylic ketones. The addition of lithium chloride proved to be essential. In cases where a new stereocenter is generated, the doubly branched homoallylic ketones are obtained in unexpectedly high diastereoselectivities. Efforts to extend the methodology to other heterosubstituted lactams revealed some important reactivity and selectivity differences
Modular synthesis and transition metal-free alkynylation/alkenylation of Castagnoli–Cushmanderived N,O- and N,S-heterocyclic vinyl chlorides
A modular and functional group-tolerant protocol for the transition metal-free coupling of novel N,O- and N,S-heterocyclic vinyl chlorides with terminal acetylenes and styrenes has been developed, leading to the epimerization-free synthesis of fully carbofunctionalized dihydro-1,4-oxazines/thiazines. Bicyclic morpholines have also been prepared through the interrogation of newly synthesized cross-conjugated dienes in Diels–Alder reactions. The use of environmentally benign reaction media endows the current strategy with a practical advantage
