Predicting Customer Lifetime Value in Multi-Service Industries
Customer lifetime value (CLV) is a key-metric within CRM. Although, a large number of marketing scientists and practitioners argue in favor of this metric, there are only a few studies that consider the predictive modeling of CLV. In this study we focus on the prediction of CLV in multi-service industries. In these industries customer behavior is rather complex, because customers can purchase more than one service, and these purchases are often not independent from each other. We compare the predictive performance of different models, which vary in complexity and realism. Our results show that for our application simple models assuming constant profits over time have the best predictive performance at the individual customer level. At the customer base level more complicated models have the best performance. At the aggregate level, forecasting errors are rather small, which emphasizes the usability of CLV predictions for customer base valuation purposes. Flowering and sex expression in Acer L. : a biosystematic study
A review and an analysis is given of flowering and sex expression in Acer. The process of sex differentiation was studied in physiological experiments and could be influenced by accelerated flowering and by removal of female.gif flower buds just after bud break. The paper further includes notes on the morphology, mainly of the reproductive organs, and a study of floral morphogenesis. A taxonomic study led to the division of Acer into 15 sections, partly subdivided into 2-3 series. Of these series, two, Ukurunduensia and Wardiana, are described for the first time. A key to the sections and series is added. The evolution of Acer, especially of its flowering and sex expression, and of its morphological characters, is discussed. A comparison of faecal analysis with backtracking to determine the diet composition and species preference of the black rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis minor)
The diet of black rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis minor) was studied using backtracking and faecal analysis in South Africa. Both methods yielded different results, with a large bias for dominant species. Results of backtracking showed that the rhinos browsed on 80 plant species. Grasses comprised 4.5% of the diet in the faecal analysis, but were not recorded during the backtracking. The backtracking method, along with a measure of forage availability, was used to identify two groups of plant species, those species taken in a higher proportion than available in the field and those taken in a lower proportion. Chemical analyses showed that these two species groups were similar in in vitro digestibility, macro-elements and fibre constituents. Mean bite size and species contribution to the diet were not correlated with any of the forage quality parameters, indicating that rhinos were not maximising nutrient intake or minimising fibre intake of these consumed plant species

Structure, mass and stability of galactic disks
In this review I concentrate on three areas related to structure of disks in
spiral galaxies. First I will review the work on structure, kinematics and
dynamics of stellar disks. Next I will review the progress in the area of
flaring of HI layers. These subjects are relevant for the presence of dark
matter and lead to the conclusion that disk are in general not `maximal', have
lower M/L ratios than previously suspected and are locally stable w.r.t.
Toomre's Q criterion for local stability. I will end with a few words on

Galaxy Disks
The formation and evolution of galactic disks is particularly important for
understanding how galaxies form and evolve, and the cause of the variety in
which they appear to us. Ongoing large surveys, made possible by new
instrumentation at wavelengths from the ultraviolet (GALEX), via optical (HST
and large groundbased telescopes) and infrared (Spitzer) to the radio are
providing much new information about disk galaxies over a wide range of
redshift. Although progress has been made, the dynamics and structure of
stellar disks, including their truncations, are still not well understood. We
do now have plausible estimates of disk mass-to-light ratios, and estimates of
Toomre's parameter show that they are just locally stable. Disks are mostly
very flat and sometimes very thin, and have a range in surface brightness from
canonical disks with a central surface brightness of about 21.5 -mag
arcsec down to very low surface brightnesses. It appears that galaxy
disks are not maximal, except possibly in the largest systems. Their HI layers
display warps whenever HI can be detected beyond the stellar disk, with
low-level star formation going on out to large radii. Stellar disks display
abundance gradients which flatten at larger radii and sometimes even reverse.
The existence of a well-defined baryonic Tully-Fisher relation hints at an
approximately uniform baryonic to dark matter ratio. Thick disks are common in
disk galaxies and their existence appears unrelated to the presence of a bulge
component; they are old, but their formation is not yet understood. Disk
formation was already advanced at redshifts of , but at that epoch
disks were not yet quiescent and in full rotational equilibrium. Downsizing is
now well-established. The formation and history of star formation in S0s is
