OPTIMAL IRRIGATION PIVOT LOCATION ON IRREGULARLY SHAPED FIELDS
Although annual rainfall in the Southeast is adequate, its distribution is a potential constraint to agricultural production. Farmers require production information concerning efficient use of irrigation technology adapted to regional growing conditions. Selection of optimal position, size, and number of pivots in center pivot irrigation systems poses special problems on small, irregularly shaped fields. In the southeastern United States, field size and shape are often varied and irregular. A mixed integer programming model was constructed to assist in irrigation investment decisions. The model is illustrated using irrigated peanut production in southeast Alabama. Results indicate the importance of economic engineering considerations.Farm Management,
Retired A Stars and Their Companions IV. Seven Jovian Exoplanets from Keck Observatory
We report precise Doppler measurements of seven subgiants from Keck
Observatory. All seven stars show variability in their radial velocities
consistent with planet-mass companions in Keplerian orbits. The host stars have
masses ranging from 1.1 < Mstar/Msun < 1.9, radii 3.4 < Rstar/Rsun < 6.1, and
metallicities -0.21 < [Fe/H] < +0.26. The planets are all more massive than
Jupiter (Msini > 1 Mjup) and have semimajor axes > 1 AU. We present
millimagnitude photometry from the T3 0.4m APT at Fairborn observatory for five
of the targets. Our monitoring shows these stars to be photometrically stable,
further strengthening the interpretation of the observed radial velocity
variability. The orbital characteristics of the planets thus far discovered
around former A-type stars are very different from the properties of planets
around dwarf stars of spectral type F, G and K, and suggests that the formation
and migration of planets is a sensitive function of stellar mass. Three of the
planetary systems show evidence of long-term, linear trends indicative of
additional distant companions. These trends, together with the high planet
masses and increased occurrence rate, indicate that A-type stars are very

Color camera computed tomography imaging spectrometer for improved spatial-spectral image accuracy
Computed tomography imaging spectrometers ("CTIS"s) having color focal plane array detectors are provided. The color FPA detector may comprise a digital color camera including a digital image sensor, such as a Foveon X3.RTM. digital image sensor or a Bayer color filter mosaic. In another embodiment, the CTIS includes a pattern imposed either directly on the object scene being imaged or at the field stop aperture. The use of a color FPA detector and the pattern improves the accuracy of the captured spatial and spectral information

The California Planet Survey II. A Saturn-Mass Planet Orbiting the M Dwarf Gl649
We report precise Doppler measurements of the nearby (d = 10.34 pc) M dwarf
Gl649 that reveal the presence of a planet with a minimum mass Msini = 0.328
Mjup in an eccentric (e = 0.30), 598.3 day orbit. Our photometric monitoring
reveals Gl649 to be a new variable star with brightness changes on both
rotational and decadal timescales. However, neither of these timescales are
consistent with the 600-day Doppler signal and so provide strong support for
planetary reflex motion as the best interpretation of the observed radial
velocity variations. Gl649b is only the seventh Doppler-detected giant planet
around an M dwarf. The properties of the planet and host-star therefore
contribute significant information to our knowledge of planet formation around
low-mass stars. We revise and refine the occurrence rate of giant planets
around M dwarfs based on the California Planet Survey sample of low-mass stars
(M* < 0.6 Msun). We find that f = 3.4^{+2.2}_{-0.9}% of stars with M* < 0.6
Msun harbor planets with Msini > 0.3$ Mjup and a < 2.5 AU. When we restrict our
analysis to metal-rich stars with [Fe/H] > +0.2 we find the occurrence rate is

Computed tomography imaging spectrometers ("CTISs") employing a single lens are provided. The CTISs may be either transmissive or reflective, and the single lens is either configured to transmit and receive uncollimated light (in transmissive systems), or is configured to reflect and receive uncollimated light (in reflective systems). An exemplary transmissive CTIS includes a focal plane array detector, a single lens configured to transmit and receive uncollimated light, a two-dimensional grating, and a field stop aperture. Two Jovian-Mass Planets in Earthlike Orbits
We report the discovery of two new planets: a 1.94 M_Jup planet in a 1.8-year
orbit of HD 5319, and a 2.51 M_Jup planet in a 1.1-year orbit of HD 75898. The
measured eccentricities are 0.12 for HD 5319 b and 0.10 for HD 75898 b, and
Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulations based on derived orbital parameters
indicate that the radial velocities of both stars are consistent with circular
planet orbits. With low eccentricity and 1 < a < 2 AU, our new planets have
orbits similar to terrestrial planets in the solar system. The radial velocity
residuals of both stars have significant trends, likely arising from substellar

Prevalence of Mentoring on Clinical Versus Experimental Doctoral Programs: Survey Findings, Implications, and Recommendations
Previous research suggests that mentorships are quite important in the development of junior professionals in a range of fields, including psychology. Yet some evidence suggests that clinical doctoral students may be less frequently mentored by graduate faculty than other psychology doctoral students. Results of a survey of clinical and experimental psychology doctorates who earned the degree in four distinct time frames from 1945 to the present indicated that clinical PhDs (53%) were indeed less likely than experimental PhDs (69%) to be mentored. Potential explanations for this discrepancy include the nature of clinical training, diffusion in clinical training, and the advent of professional training models. The implications of less frequent mentoring for clinical doctorates are discussed, and several recommendations for addressing this phenomenon are offered
