STATEMENT REGARDING MAGNIFICAT

This thesis statement presents an analysis and explanation of a music composition entitled: Magnificat. The full music score to the Magnificat may be found in the collection of the Music Department of the School of the Arts, Virginia Commonwealth University. The King James Version is the source for all of Biblical text. The presentation here of the text for the Magnificat corresponds to the manner it is introduced into the music score. Thus, the use of small case primarily to contrast those parts of the text of high volume intensity which are capitalized, and parallel text to show simultaneous reading

Life Cycle of \u3ci\u3eIsoperla Lata\u3c/i\u3e (Plecoptera: Perlodidae) in a Central Wisconsin Trout Stream

Monthly qualitative samples of Isoperla lata Frison were made from January 1992 to June 1993 in Ripley Creek, a small second order trout stream in Lincoln County Wisconsin. Additional collecting and an in-stream hatching experiment were conducted in 1994. This species exhibited an S1 (slow) univoltine life cycle. Emergence was synchronous and occurred in late April through early May when stream temperatures in the field were approximately 9-14° C and laboratory stream temperatures were 7-17° C. Laboratory longevity was 2-25 (x = 18.2 ± 4.51) days for males and 7-39 (x = 21.7 ± 5.35) days for females. Mean fecundity of dissected females was 322 ± 122 eggs/female. Females did not deposit egg masses in the laboratory until being held together with males inside modified screened plastic containers. Field-collected females did not have eggs. The egg shape was ovoid and circular in cross section. Mature eggs were light brown and measured 371.7 ± 12.6 mm and 260.7 ± 10.2 mm in length and width respectively. Eggs required a 40-46 day in-stream incubation period and first instar nymphs hatched syn- chronously over a two day period when stream temperature reached 20°C. Nymphal growth was nearly exponential from June to January and then declined until emergence. The greatest growth increment occurred between June and October and the average maximum size attained occurred in February. Males and females had approximately 18 and 19 instars respectively. Nymphs were primarily carnivorous throughout development and fed on larval Chironomidae, Ephemeroptera, and Plecoptera

Social exclusion: the roles of mobility and bridging social capital in regional Australia

Mobility is a fundamental requirement for well-functioning regions and for the wellbeing of their residents (and visitors). The paper first examines the role of mobility in promoting social inclusion of regional residents. Discussing the groups of regional people most likely to be at risk of social exclusion, because of poor mobility opportunities, the paper highlights pre-school children as a new focus for policy and research attention. It then highlights the importance of building bridging social capital to reduce risks of social exclusion in a regional setting, showing that, while regional people at high risk of social exclusion may achieve relatively high trip making (mobility), they may still have problems taking trips that build their bridging social capital. Public transport services can play a supportive role here, with indicative service levels outlined. To better meet regional mobility needs and achieve more effective use of mobility-supporting resources (e.g. vehicles, people), the paper proposes a central integrating role for Regional Accessibility Committees.Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies. Understanding the Labour Market for Older Workers: A Survey

The paper asks why retirement can be so abrupt in countries such as France (½% of the workforce over 65), yet staged in Japan (8% over 65). We find part of the answer in tax laws that prevent people working and receiving a pension, and make little allowance for fair pension increases if retirement is deferred. While these laws have begun to change, we find another part of the answer in employment protection laws. These laws coupled with inflexible collectively agreed wages make employers choosy about hiring the old. The humble school bus: An opportunity for improving regional mobility

Many regional and rural Australians are at risk of social exclusion and lower wellbeing due to poor accessibility options. The paper uses a Victrorian regional case study to demonstrate how regional/rural transport disadvantage can reduce personal wellbeing, showing the high monetary cost of diminished wellbeing. It argues for a coordinated and shared response to local regional/rural transport, using the example of wider use being made of dedicated school bus services to improve regl mobility choices. Barriers to opening up the school bus to a broader range of passengers are reviewed and expected benefits are identified, supporting wider use
