We present the results of a search for the spin-singlet P-wave state hc(1 1P1) of charmonium formed through proton-antiproton annihilation at Fermilab experiment E835. The decay channels whjich were studied were ppbar -> J/psi + X -> e^+e^- + X, ppbar -> J/psi + pi0 -> e^+e^- + 2gamma, ppbar -> J/psi + pi0pi0 -> e^+e^- + 4gamma, and the neutral channel ppbar -> eta_c gamma -> (2gamma) gamma. The decay ppbar -> J/psi gamma -> e^+e^- gamma, into which 1P1 decay is forbidden by C-parity conservation, was also examined for comparison The 90% confidence upper limits for the decay channels studied in the mass range 3525.1-3527.3 MeV for a 1P1 resonance with a presumed width of 1.0 MeV were determined to be B(ppbar->1P1)xB(1P1->J/psi+X) <= 1.8x10^-7, B(ppbar->1P1)xB(1P1->J/psi+pi0) <= 1.2x10^-7, and B(ppbar->1P1)xB(1P1->J/psi+gamma) <= 1.0x10^-7. No evidence for a 1P1 enhancement was observed in either of the two additional reactions studied.Comment: 200+ pages, Northwestern University Ph. D. Thesi

Simulation of an AD 8099 Operational Amplifier for Use in the Readout Electronics of Cosmic Ray Muon Detector

    Get PDF
An AD 8099 Operational Amplifier was simulated in LT Spice in both one-stage and two-stage configurations for use in amplifying pulses coming from a cosmic-ray muon detector. The simulation showed that the AD 8099 is highly effective in amplifying pulses down to the 100 nV input range, with amplifications of 10-20 times in the case of the one-stage amplifier and 150-400 times in the case of the two-stage amplifier. The simulation also showed reasonable levels of pulse widening down to the 100 nV input range, with the pulse widening by no more than twice its original width in the one-stage configuration and no more than three times its original width in the two-stage configuration. At input pulse voltages below 100 nV the performance of the AD 8099 begins to degrade. Offset voltages were found to be stable for all pulse shapes and input voltages investigated in both one-stage and two-stage configurations

Building Climate Equity: Creating a New Approach from the Ground Up

The report draws on 30 real-world examples from developing and developed countries that demonstrate how this "capabilities approach" can achieve ambitious low-carbon and adaptation goals while simultaneously enhancing access to decent livelihoods, healthy food, quality housing, physical safety and other capabilities for individuals, communities and nations. The report's emphasis on capabilities can also help advance discussions in the UN climate negotiations about the principle of "common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities.

    Search for light tetraquark states in Υ ( 1 S ) and Υ ( 2 S ) decays

    Get PDF
We search for the JPC=0−− and 1+− light tetraquark states with masses up to 2.46 GeV/c2 in Υ(1S) and Υ(2S) decays with data samples of (102±2) million and (158±4) million events, respectively, collected with the Belle detector. No significant signals are observed in any of the studied production modes, and 90% credibility level (C.L.) upper limits on their branching fractions in Υ(1S)and Υ(2S) decays are obtained. The inclusive branching fractions of the Υ(1S) and Υ(2S) decays into final states with f1(1285) are measured to be B(Υ(1S)→f1(1285)+anything)=(46±28(stat)±13(syst))×10−4 and B(Υ(2S)→f1(1285)+anything)=(22±15(stat)±6.3(syst))×10−4. The measured χb2→J/ψ+anything branching fraction is measured to be (1.50±0.34(stat)±0.22(syst))×10−3, and 90% C.L. upper limits for the χb0,b1→J/ψ+anything branching fractions are found to be 2.3×10−3 and 1.1×10−3, respectively. For B(χb1→ω+anything), the branching fraction is measured to be (4.9±1.3(stat)±0.6(syst))×10−2. All results reported here are the first measurements for these modes

Measurement of the Michel parameters (, ξκ) in the radiative leptonic decay of τ

    Get PDF
We present the first measurement of the Michel parameters ¯η and ξκ in the radiative leptonic decay of the τ lepton using 703 fb−1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e +e − collider. The Michel parameters are measured by an unbinned maximum likelihood fit to the kinematic information of e +e − → τ +τ − → (π +π 0ν¯)(l −ννγ¯ ) (l = e or µ). The preliminary values of the measured Michel parameters are ¯η = −2.0 ± 1.5 ± 0.8 and ξκ = 0.6 ± 0.4 ± 0.2, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic

Diagram-based Analysis of Causal Systems (DACS): elucidating inter-relationships between determinants of acute lower respiratory infections among children in sub-Saharan Africa.

Effective interventions require evidence on how individual causal pathways jointly determine disease. Based on the concept of systems epidemiology, this paper develops Diagram-based Analysis of Causal Systems (DACS) as an approach to analyze complex systems, and applies it by examining the contributions of proximal and distal determinants of childhood acute lower respiratory infections (ALRI) in sub-Saharan Africa

From TshwaneLex to TshwanePedia: Creating and Flexibly Maintaining Online Encyclopaedias

ABSTRACT: The addition of a restricted number of features to the dictionary (compilation) soft-ware TshwaneLex suffices to turn this application into a tool for the creation and maintenance of encyclopaedias. This article gives a brief overview of those extra features, using the online encyclo-paedia of the James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF) as case study.

Keywords: LEXICOGRAPHY, DICTIONARY, ENCYCLOPAEDIA, SOFTWARE, ONLINE, TSHWANELEX, TSHWANEPEDIA, JAMES RANDI EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION

*****

Sleutelwoorden: LEXICOGRAFIE, WOORDENBOEK, ENCYCLOPEDIE, SOFTWARE, ON LINE, TSHWANELEX, TSHWANEPEDIA, JAMES RANDI EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION</p&gt
