Gutzwiller Approximation in Degenerate Hubbard Models
Degenerate Hubbard models are studied using the
Generalized-Gutzwiller-Approximation. It is found that the metal-insulator
transition occurs at a finite correlation when the average number of
electrons per lattice site is an integer. The critical depends
sensitively on both the band degeneracy and the filling . A derivation
is presented for the general expression of which reproduces all
previously known Gutzwiller solutions, including that of the Boson Hubbard
model. Effects of the lattice structure on the metal-insulator transition and
the effective mass are discussed.Comment: RevTex file with 2 figures included, 12 page
Tracking ocean heat uptake during the surface warming hiatus.
Ocean heat uptake is observed to penetrate deep into the Atlantic and Southern Oceans during the recent hiatus of global warming. Here we show that the deep heat penetration in these two basins is not unique to the hiatus but is characteristic of anthropogenic warming and merely reflects the depth of the mean meridional overturning circulation in the basin. We find, however, that heat redistribution in the upper 350 m between the Pacific and Indian Oceans is closely tied to the surface warming hiatus. The Indian Ocean shows an anomalous warming below 50 m during hiatus events due to an enhanced heat transport by the Indonesian throughflow in response to the intensified trade winds in the equatorial Pacific. Thus, the Pacific and Indian Oceans are the key regions to track ocean heat uptake during the surface warming hiatus
Quantum transport properties of ultrathin silver nanowires
The quantum transport properties of the ultrathin silver nanowires are
investigated. For a perfect crystalline nanowire with four atoms per unit cell,
three conduction channels are found, corresponding to three bands crossing
the Fermi level. One conductance channel is disrupted by a single-atom defect,
either adding or removing one atom. Quantum interference effect leads to
oscillation of conductance versus the inter-defect distance. In the presence of
multiple-atom defect, one conduction channel remains robust at Fermi level
regardless the details of defect configuration. The histogram of conductance
calculated for a finite nanowire (seven atoms per cross section) with a large
number of random defect configurations agrees well with recent experiment.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figure
Radiative Leptonic Decays of Meson
To the leading order, the radiative leptonic decays () are studied carefully. In the study, a non-relativistic
constituent quark model and the effective Lagrangian for the heavy flavour
decays are used. As a result, the branching ratios turn out to be of the orders
of for or for . Based on this study, we point out the decays being accessible
experimentally at the future LHC, and the possibility to determine the decay
constant through the radiative decays.Comment: 9 pages Latex, including 2 figure
