    Silver-Russell Syndrome: A Case Report

    Get PDF
A 15-year-old male boy with hemihypertrophy (left side) of the body was admitted in the hospital with the history of repeated attacks of convulsion. The patient was diagnosed as Silver-Russell syndrome on clinical ground. Silver-Russell syndrome (SRS) is a very rare genetic disorder that appears no later than early childhood. This is usually characterized by asymmetry in the size of the two halves or other parts of the body. Silver-Russell Syndrome occurs mostly in isolated cases because of sporadic genetic changes (mutations) for no apparent reason. For lack of facilities we were not able to do genetic study

In this study, the antioxidant and antifungal activities of extracts of Tabernaemontana alternifolia, Thuja occidantalis and Cajanus cajan were recognized. Total yields, radical scavenging activity and the antioxidant property of the extracts were investigated. The free radical scavenging activities of extract was documented as 41.3 ± 2.1 to 76.9 ± 6.1%, likewise. The antioxidant capacity of extracts was recognized between 153.4 ± 10.1 to 336.7 ± 24.2 mg/g extract. This extract was explored for antifungal activity by paper disc method against 2 fungi by using flucanazole as a standard drug. The 0.5 % level of Tabernaemontana alternifolia extract exhibited 100% inhibition till the 7th day of incubation when compare to control (Ascorbic acid). Statistical variances within fungi were significant at p<0.05. The extract was to some extent effective against all the fungi used in experiment

Myocardial Infarction in a Young Female with Palindromic Rheumatism: A Consequence of Negative Remodeling

Palindromic rheumatism is a rare disease associated with systemic inflammation. Negative or constrictive coronary artery remodeling is typically not seen until the 7th or 8th decade of life. We report a case of a young female with palindromic rheumatism who suffered a non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction secondary to a flow-limiting lesion that demonstrated negative remodeling by intravascular ultrasound (IVUS)

Analysis of effect of Minimum Quantity Lubrication on different machining parameters Cutting Force, Surface Roughness and Tool Wear by Hard Turning of AISI-4340 Alloy Steel a Review

ABSTRACT This paper deals with the study of various machining process and show the effect of different cutting parameters on the properties of material. There are several important factors in the product quality which are surface finish, cutting temperature, tool life and coolant quality. The use of coolant generally causes life of tools and it also maintains work piece surface properties without damages. There are some negative effects and cutting fluid wastes in industries. In this paper, attention is focused on minimum quantity lubrication and recent work and some outcomes of machining factors from minimum quantity lubrication are presented. The review of the literature suggests that minimal fluid application provides several benefits in machining. It has been found that hardened alloy steel like AISI 4340 is known to be difficult to cut and a little knowledge is available in use of MQL for cooling. The main objective of the study of MQL is to reduce the surface roughness during machining and machining cost of cutting fluid. The minimum quantity lubrication also affects the surface finishing, reduce tool wear and reduce the cutting force. This paper provides a review of present work and some limitations of conventional cutting fluid machining and growing opportunities for development of the next generation MQL in machining operations

“Register and Roll”: A Novel Initiative to Improve First Door-to-Balloon Time in ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction

Objective. We examined the cause of transfer delay in patients with an acute ST-segment myocardial infarction (STEMI) from non percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) capable to PCI capable hospitals. We then implemented a novel, simple, and reliable initiative to improve the transfer process. Background. Guidelines established by the ACC/AHA call for door-to-balloon times of ≀90 minutes for patients with STEMI. When hospital transfer is necessary, this is only met in 8.6% of cases. Methods. All patients presenting with STEMI to a non-PCI capable hospital from April 2006 to February 2009 were analyzed retrospectively. After identifying causes of transfer delay the “Register and Roll” initiative was developed. An analysis of effect was conducted from March 2009 to July 2011. Results. 144 patients were included, 74 pre-initiative and 70 post- initiative. Time to EMS activation was a major delay in patient transfer. After implementation, the EMS activation time has significantly decreased and time to reperfusion approaches recommended goal (Median 114 min versus 90 min, ), with 55% in <90 minutes. Conclusion. “Register and Roll” streamlines the triage process and improves hospital transfer times. This initiative is easily instituted and reliable in a community hospital setting where resources are limited

Comparison of the energy consumption in traditional and advanced paddy residue management technologies for wheat sowing

The study examines the energy consumption for paddy harvesting and wheat sowing using different techniques. The research was planned with ten treatments using three straw management practices, i.e., Retention, Incorporation, and Removal of straw. Major portion of energy is consumed in form of diesel energy, which was the highest energy consumption source, with a participation of 79.3 to 86.5%. It was resulted that T4 had the opulent while T7 had the miserable yield. Least energy was consumed in treatment T2 (1582.9 MJ ha-1) and the most was in treatment T5 (3500.4 MJ ha-1). The specific energy consumption was 25.47, 24.94, 27.74, 49.68, 58.15, 46.60, 55.82, 51.43, 53.01 and 37.78 MJ ha-1, respectively for Treatment T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, T6, T7, T8, T9, and T10. Specific energy is more in removal and incorporation of straw residue practices in comparison to residue retention practices. It can be concluded that treatments using direct drilling machine was the most efficient in case of specific energy consumption. Residue retention tillage practice with happy seeder should be used to make higher productivity with efficient energy input to manage paddy residue

Sensitive detection of Trypanosoma evansi infection by polymerase chain reaction targeting invariable surface glycoprotein gene

Trypanosoma evansi, an extracellular haemoprotozoan parasite, causes surra in a wide range of domestic and wild animals. In the present study, a diagnostic PCR assay was developed using primers targeting invariable surface glycoprotein (ISG) gene of T. evansi, which amplified a 196 bp product. The DNA was extracted from purified trypanosomes and T. evansi infected mice blood, and serially diluted ranging from 20 ng/”l to 0.002 pg/”l and from 90 ng/”l to 0.009 pg/”l, respectively. The diagnostic sensitivity of the PCR assay was 0.02 ng/”l (2×101 parasites) and 0.09 ng/”l (1×102 parasites) with purified parasite DNA and infected mice blood DNA, respectively. The PCR assay was also performed on extracted genomic DNA from 86 blood samples from the field out of which 3 animals were found positive by ISG-PCR assay. The developed ISG gene based PCR assay could be employed for sensitive detection of early infection, sub-clinical status of trypanosomosis and drug efficacy studies in animals
