Radion effective theory in the detuned Randall-Sundrum model

We compute the two-derivative low-energy effective action for the radion in the (supersymmetric) Randall-Sundrum scenario with detuned brane tensions. At the classical level, a potential automatically stabilizes the distance between the branes. In the supersymmetric case, supersymmetry can be broken spontaneously by a vacuum expectation value for the fifth component of the graviphoton.Comment: 17 pages. JHEP class. New Appendix. Mass Deformation of the Multiple M2 Branes Theory

Based on recent developments, in this letter we study the one parameter deformation of 2+1 dimensional gauge theories with scale invariance and N = 8 supersymmetry, which is expected to be the field theory living on a stack of M2 branes. The deformed gauge theory is defined by a Lagrangian and is based on an infinite set of novel 3-algebras constructed by relaxing the assumption that the invariant metric is positive definite. Under the Higgs mechanism, we can obtain the D-branes world volume theory in the presence of background fluxes.Comment: 13pages, no figures, reference adde

    Relating U(N)xU(N) to SU(N)xSU(N) Chern-Simons Membrane theories

By integrating out the U(1)_B gauge field, we show that the U(n)xU(n) ABJM theory at level k is equivalent to a Z_k identification of the (SU(n)xSU(n))/Z_n Chern-Simons theory, but only when n and k are coprime. As a consequence, the k=1 ABJM model for two M2-branes in R^8 can be identified with the N=8 (SU(2)xSU(2))/Z_2 theory. We also conjecture that the U(2)xU(2) ABJM model at k=2 is equivalent to the N=8 SU(2)xSU(2)-theory.Comment: 16 pages, Latex; v2: references added; v3: Clarifications adde

Matter couplings in partially broken extended supersymmetry

    Get PDF
We use nonlinear realizations to describe the spontaneous breaking of N=2N=2 supersymmetry to N=1N=1 in four dimensions. We identify the Goldstone multiplet with an N=1N=1 chiral superfield, and show that chiral N=1N=1 matter is consistent with the partially broken N=2N=2 supersymmetry. We find that the chiral matter can be in any representation of the gauge group; no mirror particles are required. We present the Goldstone action and the general couplings to N=1N=1 matter to the first nontrivial order in the scale of symmetry breaking.Comment: JHU-TIPAC-94011, 9 pages. References adde

    Comments on Multiple M2-branes

Recently a three-dimensional field theory was derived that is consistent with all the symmetries expected of the worldvolume action for multiple M2-branes. In this note we examine several physical predictions of this model and show that they are in agreement with expected M2-brane dynamics. In particular, we discuss the quantization of the Chern-Simons coefficient, the vacuum moduli space, a massive deformation leading to fuzzy three-sphere vacua, and a possible large n limit. In this large n limit, the fuzzy funnel solution correctly reproduces the mass of an M5-brane.Comment: 18 pages. Published versio

    Unifying N=5 and N=6

We write the Lagrangian of the general N=5 three-dimensional superconformal Chern-Simons theory, based on a basic Lie superalgebra, in terms of our recently introduced N=5 three-algebras. These include N=6 and N=8 three-algebras as special cases. When we impose an antisymmetry condition on the triple product, the supersymmetry automatically enhances, and the N=5 Lagrangian reduces to that of the well known N=6 theory, including the ABJM and ABJ models.Comment: 19 pages. v2: Published version. Three-Algebras in N = 5, 6 Superconformal Chern-Simons Theories: Representations and Relations

In this work we present 3-algebraic constructions and representations for three-dimensional N = 5 supersymmetric Chern-Simons theories, and show how they relate to theories with additional supersymmetries. The N = 5 structure constants give theories with Sp(2N) \times SO(M) gauge symmetry, as well as more exotic symmetries known from gauged supergravity. We find explicit lifts from N = 6 to 8, and N = 5 to 6 and 8, for appropriate gauge groups.Comment: 23 pages. Published version. References correcte
