Histoplasma capsulatum Infection in an Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Patient Receiving Voriconazole Prophylaxis
Histoplasma capsulatum infection is a rare complication in the allogeneic stem cell transplant patients. Minimal guidance exists on how to appropriately manage histoplasmosis in these patients. We report a patient who developed Histoplasma pneumonia while receiving voriconazole prophylaxis at a therapeutic trough level. The patient experienced significant clinical improvement after initiation of itraconazole pharmacotherapy. We recommend a lower threshold for evaluation for histoplasmosis in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients who live in endemic regions, regardless of their antifungal prophylactic regimen
Using Channel Output Feedback to Increase Throughput in Hybrid-ARQ
Hybrid-ARQ protocols have become common in many packet transmission systems
due to their incorporation in various standards. Hybrid-ARQ combines the normal
automatic repeat request (ARQ) method with error correction codes to increase
reliability and throughput. In this paper, we look at improving upon this
performance using feedback information from the receiver, in particular, using
a powerful forward error correction (FEC) code in conjunction with a proposed
linear feedback code for the Rayleigh block fading channels. The new hybrid-ARQ
scheme is initially developed for full received packet feedback in a
point-to-point link. It is then extended to various different multiple-antenna
scenarios (MISO/MIMO) with varying amounts of packet feedback information.
Simulations illustrate gains in throughput.Comment: 30 page
Applications of concurrent access patterns in web usage mining
This paper builds on the original data mining and modelling research which has proposed the discovery of novel structural relation patterns, applying the approach in web usage mining. The focus of attention here is on concurrent access patterns (CAP), where an overarching framework illuminates the methodology for web access patterns post-processing. Data pre-processing, pattern discovery and patterns analysis all proceed in association with access patterns mining, CAP mining and CAP modelling. Pruning and selection of access pat-terns takes place as necessary, allowing further CAP mining and modelling to be pursued in the search for the most interesting concurrent access patterns. It is shown that higher level CAPs can be modelled in a way which brings greater structure to bear on the process of knowledge discovery. Experiments with real-world datasets highlight the applicability of the approach in web navigation
Propagation of temporal entanglement
The equations that govern the temporal evolution of two photons in the
Schr{\"o}dinger picture are derived, taking into account the effects of loss,
group-velocity dispersion, temporal phase modulation, linear coupling among
different optical modes, and four-wave mixing. Inspired by the formalism, we
propose the concept of quantum temporal imaging, which uses dispersive elements
and temporal phase modulators to manipulate the temporal correlation of two
entangled photons. We also present the exact solution of a two-photon vector
soliton, in order to demonstrate the ease of use and intuitiveness of the
proposed formulation.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure
