    Factors influencing intention to create new venture among young graduates

    The purpose of this paper is to investigate the factors that are influencing the young graduates for intention to create new venture. The study further highlights how the attraction, networking support, entrepreneurial capabilities, self-independence and self-reliance influence the young students to initiate their new businesses. The sample size of this study was 255 final semester students of various disciplines in different universities from Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The survey based questionnaire was used for data collection. Based on findings this study concludes that all variables, included in the study, play a vital role in new venture creation. Therefore, on the basis of findings this study concludes that young students are more motivated towards new venture creation and start their own businesses.Influencing factors, new venture creation, different disciplines, young graduates, motivation

    PLANNED BEHAVIOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INTENTION TO CREATE A NEW VENTURE AMONG YOUNG GRADUATES

    This paper attempts to investigate whether young graduates possess the leadership style that is pre-requisite to become entrepreneur. The paper further examines the role of higher education towards the desire of new venture creation among young graduates in developing economies specially. This study analyzed the response of 225 final-semester students at different universities in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Lahore. A questionnaire based survey instrument was used. Result of the present study shows that education and new venture creation are positively and significantly correlated. The results further indicate that all variables used in this study are significantly correlated with intention to create a new venture. The limitation of this study is that it includes business and economics discipline students only. Further studies may investigate and examine the possibilities of similar outcomes among students of other disciplines including science, engineering, medicine, agriculture and law etc. The present study will, however, provide insight to future policy makers and planners to consider strategies for optimally utilizing the expertise and potentials of the young graduates.     Incidence, Pattern, and Outcome of Stray Bullet Injuries: Three Years’ Experience in a Teaching Institute

    Objectives:  The purpose of this study is to better define the incidence, pattern, and outcome of a stray bullet. Materials & Methods:  The current study summarizes the data on stray bullet injuries presented to the Emergency Department (ED) Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar. A total of 24 subjects were included for three years. We enrolled all patients who had head or spine injuries caused by a stray bullet. Data were extracted on demographic profile, site of injury, operative procedure, complication, and mortality, and were recorded on prescribed proforma. Results:  A total of 24 subjects were included for 3 years. 17 (70%) were male patients and 7 (30%) were females. Male to female ratio was 2:1. out of 24 cases, 9 (37.5%) were from District Peshawar, 3 (12.5%) cases were from Mardan and Charsadda District, and 2 (8.3%) cases were from Swat. 12 cases had a bullet in the Head and face. out of which 7 were supratentorial 3 cases had a bullet in the posterior fossa. Out of 24 cases, 13 (54.1%) were operated for the removal of bullets. 5 (20.8%) developed focal or generalized fits. 13 (54.1%) developed a neuro deficit. 4 (16.6%) of cases remain in a vegetative state, and the overall mortality rate is 20%. Conclusion:  Morbidity and mortality due to stray bullets is an increasing problem in our society. This study aims to bring awareness among the concerned authorities to try and bring an end to this menace resulting in deaths and misery

    Service Quality, Customer Satisfaction and Loyalty: An Empirical Analysis of Banking Sector in Pakistan

    The basic aim of this study is to explore most common constructs for quality of banking services, which influence customer satisfaction and examine the impact of customer satisfaction on customer loyalty in the context of banking relationships. The questionnaire was used to collect the data from 192 valid respondents by convenience sampling method. SPSS was used to analyze the data and AMOS was used to test the model. The results of the study show that there is a positive and significant link between customer satisfaction and constructs of service quality like tangibility, reliability, competence conflict handling and further study inferred that customer satisfaction is positively significant related to customer loyalty

    Energy consumption analysis in turning Ti-6Al-4V alloy.

    One of the major concerns in manufacturing industries include the amount of energy consumed during machining processes. Therefore, the study of the specific energy during machining must be analyzed in relation to the process parameters (feed rate, speed and depth of cut). This work demonstrates the analysis of specific cutting energy (SCE) and cutting power during titanium alloys machining under dry conditions. Turning experiments with uncoated carbide inserts were performed applying Taguchi Design of Experiments technique and analyzed the effect of speed, feed and depth of cut during turning Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloys. ANOVA was done to find out the influence of the machining parameters on energy consumption. The outcome of this analysis indicates that feed rate is the highly dominant factor responsible for the SCE of a machine tool, whereas, cutting speed was found as the influential factor affecting the power during the machining process. The environmental and economic performance for a machining process may be significantly improved by reducing energy consumption using appropriate machining conditions

    Development of an Acid Resistant Concrete: A Review

    This review paper addresses the measures taken to prevent or minimize the deterioration of concrete, which confronts an acidic environment. Primarily, the mechanism of reaction between alkaline concrete and acid is clearly demonstrated. The mechanism of reaction clearly sets guidelines as to how the chances of this disastrous reaction should be minimized or eliminated at all. The suggested preventive measures are two-fold i.e. the improvement of the basic microstructure of concrete and the provision of barriers against acids. Concrete can be made acid resistant using classical as well as novel techniques like nanotechnology.   There exists an immense need that these measures are recognized and implemented by the construction industry to put a stop to huge money losses

    Development and analysis of tool wear and energy consumption maps for turning of titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V).

    Machine tools are the main source of electric power consumption in industrial operations. Thus, in manufacturing, energy-efficient and cleaner production methods are preferred to mitigate production costs. Titanium alloys are known for their poor machinability and are generally characterized by low tool life, high energy consumption and poor surface quality due to its unique physical and mechanical properties. This research aims to evaluate the tool wear rate (R) and the specific cutting energy (SCE) at varying cutting conditions by developing tool wear and energy maps using unified cutting tests. Uncoated H13A tools were used during single-point turning of Ti-6Al-4V alloy by employing Full Factorial Design of Experiments. Based on experimental data, comprehensive process maps were developed for monitoring wear and energy data. These maps showed regions of (low moderate and high) wear and specific energy consumption. It was observed that while machining Ti-6Al-4V alloy the recommended cutting condition (V=100 m/min and f =0.16 mm/rev) enhances the tool life and reduces energy consumption together with high material removal rate. It was also deduced that instead of low speed, using a higher speed of 125 m/min will increase MRR by 127 % and SCE by 16 %, which is more feasible in a production environment. From tool-chip contact length and chip morphology analysis, a strong correlation indicated the reason behind the occurrence of various zones on the maps. It has been found that high wear and energy zone occurred due to the larger contact length and higher chip compression ratio when machining at high speed. The developed maps can be used to help the manufacturers achieve the economic and energy-efficient goal of machining

    Technology-assisted decision support system for efficient water utilization : a real-time testbed for irrigation using wireless sensor networks

    Scientific organizations and researchers are eager to apply recent technological advancements, such as sensors and actuators, in different application areas, including environmental monitoring, creation of intelligent buildings, and precision agriculture. Technology-assisted irrigation for agriculture is a major research innovation which eases the work of farmers and prevents water wastage. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are used as sensor nodes that directly interact with the physical environment and provide real-time data that are useful in identifying regions in need, particularly in agricultural fields. This paper presents an efficient methodology that employs WSN as a data collection tool and a decision support system (DSS). The proposed DSS can assist farmers in their manual irrigation procedures or automate irrigation activities. Water-deficient sites in both scenarios are identified by using soil moisture and environmental data sensors. However, the proposed system's accuracy is directly proportional to the accuracy of dynamic data generated by the deployed WSN. A simplified outlier-detection algorithm is thus presented and integrated with the proposed DSS to fine-tune the collected data prior to processing. The complexity of the algorithm is O(1) for dynamic datasets generated by sensor nodes and O(n) for static datasets. Different issues in technology-assisted irrigation management and their solutions are also addressed. © 2013 IEEE
