    An Empirical Study on the Urban Poverty in Guizhou

    Based on the GQ model and the Beta model of the Lorenz curve, this paper uses the POVCAL software of the World Bank to calculate the Gini coefficient and the FGT index with the per capita disposable income data of Guizhou urban residents from 1997 to 2015, and analyzes the trends and characteristics of urban poverty in Guizhou. The results show that before 2008, the urban poverty of Guizhou changed from shallow absolute poverty to relatively violent relative poverty. Since 2008, the relative poverty has been stable, but still needs attention. At the same time, Guizhou faces a new type of urban poverty

    Perception Driven Texture Generation

    This paper investigates a novel task of generating texture images from perceptual descriptions. Previous work on texture generation focused on either synthesis from examples or generation from procedural models. Generating textures from perceptual attributes have not been well studied yet. Meanwhile, perceptual attributes, such as directionality, regularity and roughness are important factors for human observers to describe a texture. In this paper, we propose a joint deep network model that combines adversarial training and perceptual feature regression for texture generation, while only random noise and user-defined perceptual attributes are required as input. In this model, a preliminary trained convolutional neural network is essentially integrated with the adversarial framework, which can drive the generated textures to possess given perceptual attributes. An important aspect of the proposed model is that, if we change one of the input perceptual features, the corresponding appearance of the generated textures will also be changed. We design several experiments to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.     Analysis on the Spatial-Temporal Dynamics of Financial Agglomeration with Markov Chain Approach in China

    The standard approach to studying financial industrial agglomeration is to construct measures of the degree of agglomeration within financial industry. But such measures often fail to exploit the convergence or divergence of financial agglomeration. In this paper, we apply Markov chain approach to diagnose the convergence of financial agglomeration in China based on the location quotient coefficients across the provincial regions over 1993–2011. The estimation of Markov transition probability matrix offers more detailed insights into the mechanics of financial agglomeration evolution process in China during the research period. The results show that the spatial evolution of financial agglomeration changes faster in the period of 2003–2011 than that in the period of 1993–2002. Furthermore, there exists a very uneven financial development patterns, but there is regional convergence for financial agglomeration in China

    Understanding the Determinants of Review Helpfulness in Online Review Sites: An Empirical Study

    Online review websites play an important role in customer’s purchase decision-making process for the useful product knowledge contained in the customer-generated reviews. However, the increasing information volume also makes it difficult for customers to identify and consider those attributes relevant to their decision. Based on Information Processing Theory (IPT) and Multiple Pathway Anchoring and Adjustment Model (MPAAM), we proposed three characteristics of online reviews affecting review helpfulness (e.g., attractiveness, representational sufficiency and functional sufficiency) and examined the moderating influences of information volume on these relationships. A large-scale review dataset from Yelp.com are collected and text analysis technique are applied to validate our research model. Our work, which illustrates the disturbance effect of information volume, has implications for both online word-of-mouth and information processing research
