TTL implementation of a CAMB tree network switch
Packet collisions and their resolution create a performance bottleneck in random-access LANs. A hardware solution to this problem is to use a collision avoidance switch. These switches allow the implementation of random access protocols without the penalty of collisions among packets. An architecture based on collision avoidance is the CAMB (Collision Avoidance Multiple Broadcast) Tree network, where concurrent broadcasts are possible.The purpose of this paper is to present two implementations for a CAMB Tree switch. Entrepreneurial Experiments in Science Policy: Analizing the Human Genome Project
We re-conceptualize the role of science policy makers, envisioning and illustrating their move from being simple investors in scientific projects to entrepreneurs who create the conditions for entrepreneurial experiments and initiate them. We argue that reframing science policy around the notion of conducting entrepreneurial experiments â experiments that increase the diversity of technical, organizational and institutional arrangements in which scientific research is conducted â can provide policy makers with a wider repertoire of effective interventions. To illustrate the power of this approach, we analyze the Human Genome Project (HGP) as a set of successful, entrepreneurial experiments in organizational and institutional innovation. While not designed as such, the HGP was an experiment in funding a science project across a variety of organizational settings, including seven public and one private (Celera) research centers. We assess the major characteristics and differences between these organizational choices, using a mix of qualitative and econometric analyses to examine their impact on scientific progress. The planning and direction of the Human Genome Project show that policy makers can use the levers of entrepreneurial experimentation to transform scientific progress, much as entrepreneurs have transformed economic progress.Entrepreneurial Experiments; Science Policy; Human Genome Project

"TTL Implementations of a CAMB Tree Switch," where a tree network architecture was described for two different implementations of a CAMB tree switch. In the pages that follow, a hardware implementation of the interface between the network stations and the packet switches is proposed. This implementation is based on the first switch design in the companion paper
bpm: BLZ Package Manager
bpm (BLZ Package Manager) is a package manager for the open-source programming language BLZ, built in Java. It allows users of the BLZ programming language to create and upload their own packages, as well as downloading necessary dependency packages for their packages. To do this, the program communicates with the âcardiovascularâ, a web server designed for users to upload and download BLZ packages.
The program has three primary functions. The first one, âinitâ, initializes a package directory for use with the package manager. Part of this initialization is creating a âheartbeatâ meta file, which holds information about the packageâs name, version, and its dependencies.
The second function, âbeatâ, compares the dependencies in the âheartbeatâ meta file against packages currently installed in the directory, and downloads any missing dependencies.
The third function, âpumpâ, uploads the current package to a web server that hosts packages

Densely distributed and real-time scour hole monitoring using piezoelectric rod sensors
This study aims to validate a piezoelectric driven-rod scour monitoring system that can sense changes in scour depth along the entire rod at its instrumented location. The proposed sensor is a polymeric slender rod with a thin strip of polyvinylidene fluoride that runs through its midline. Extraction of the fundamental frequency allows the direct calculation of the exposed length (or scour depth) of the slender rod undergoing fluid flow excitation. First, laboratory validation in dry conditions is presented. Second, hydrodynamic testing of the sensor system in a soil-bed flume is discussed. Each rod was installed using a three-dimensional-printed footing designed for ease of installation and stabilization during testing. The sensors were installed in a layout designed to capture symmetric scour conditions around a scaled pier. In order to analyze the system out of steady-state conditions, water velocity was increased in stages during testing to induce different degrees of scour. As ambient water flow excited the portion of the exposed rods, the embedded piezoelectric element outputted a time-varying voltage signal. Different methods were then employed to extract the fundamental frequency of each rod, and the results were compared. Further testing was also performed to characterize the relationship between frequency outputs and flow velocity, which were previously thought to be independent. In general, the proposed driven-rod scour monitoring system successfully captured changing frequencies under varied flow conditions
Current Therapeutic Approaches in Metastatic and Recurrent Ewing Sarcoma
Ewing sarcoma (ES) is the second most common type of primary bone malignancy in children and young adults. Survival rates for localized ES have improved to upwards of 70% with aggressive chemotherapy and local control. On the other hand, there has been little improvement in survival rates for patients with metastatic or recurrent ES. Herein we review the different current therapeutic approaches available, including the different upfront and salvage chemotherapy regimens, the role for stem cell transplantation, and potential use of immunotherapy
