Immobilization of biologic photosensitizer conjugates on nanoparticles to enhance photoimmunotherapy efficacy

Light-activatable immunoconjugates have recently shown promise for photoimmunotherapy and fluorescence-guided resection in patients suffering from incurable malignancies in early clinical trials. While possessing a number of unique advantages, photoimmunotherapy and fluorescence imaging for oncological diseases can be hampered by therapeutic inefficiency resulting from inadequate photosensitizer delivery. The study suggests that successful coupling of antibody-photosensitizer photoimmunoconjugates onto polymeric nanoparticles complements the promising attributes of simple photoimmunoconjugates in two significant ways: Not only does it improve photosensitizer delivery to tumor, but also offers a forward-looking opportunity to deliver significant and diverse second agents, which can be an imaging agent or a different therapeutic agent, to further enhance the theranostic benefits of photoimmunoconjugates. This approach, based on nanoparticle engineering, achieves effective photoimmunoconjugate delivery and enhances the anti-tumor efficacy in two EGFR-overexpressing cancer cell lines in vitro and in a xenograft tumor mouse model. Furthermore, the selectivity, photochemical and photophysical characteristics (e.g. absorbance, fluorescence quenching, and singlet oxygen yield) of the photoimmunoconjugated nanoplatform were thoroughly investigated. This next generation photoimmunoconjugate–nanoparticle delivery approach offers a unique opportunity to monitor disease, destroy cancer cells and co-deliver a follow-up treatment more efficiently, and thus merits further investigations in preclinical and clinical settings

Reused Smartphones Pricing Analysis ─ A Duopoly Model Analysis with respect to Apple and Samsung Smartphones

    Get PDF
[[abstract]]As technology advances, multi-touch smartphones have rapidly become a necessity in the daily lives of most users. In order to expand their market share and attract new users, new generations of smartphones are being introduced in a much shorter interval. As a result, older phones are discarded in greater speed, and thus creating more electronic waste each year. To reduce waste material, the concept of reused smartphones is proposed. In order to attract users to purchase these reused smartphones, this study aims to look into the pricing strategy for Apple and Samsung products as both are top smartphone brands with the highest market shares. Under the duopoly environment, this study uses the Cournot game model to determine the optimal solution in a price competition with Apple set to be the ‘leader’ and Samsung the ‘follower’. While making pricing strategies, manufacturers commonly strive to maximize their profits. Two pricing functions will have a point of intersection, and the solution will be the optimal equilibrium. The model proposed in this study may be taken as reference for manufacturers to understand the reused smartphone market.[[notice]]補正完

Maternal Education, Linkages and Child Nutrition in the Long and Short-run: Evidence from the Ethiopia Demographic and Health Surveys

    Get PDF
We used the 2000 and 2005 Ethiopian Demographic and Health Surveys to analyze the effect of maternal education and its pathways on chronic (long-run) and acute (short-run) malnutrition inEthiopia. The pathways examined in this study are socioeconomic status, maternal health-seeking behavior, maternal knowledge of health and family planning and reproductive behavior. We find that maternal education works through all except health-seeking behavior. We also find that maternal education and its pathways are more relevant and robust in explaining chronic than acute malnutrition. Socioeconomic status is the most important factor linking maternal education and child nutritional status. Although girls’ education is a high policy priority, it may take time before its direct and indirect impacts to materialize and substantially improve child health outcomes. Faster results would require direct interventions on key elements of socioeconomic status

A Study of Effectiveness and Satisfaction Level of Cloud CRM Users in Taiwan\u27s Enterprises

    Get PDF
Cloud computing in recent years has become a popular IT application. In Taiwan, enterprises currently using CRM (Customer Relationship Management) applications seek to take advantages of cloud computing features to enhance CRM effectiveness. However, despite international IT service providers’ investments in Taiwan’s market for establishing a cloud computing environment for CRM users, no statistics are available to reflect experience with actual use. Therefore, the purposes of this study are to understand the satisfaction levels of the current cloud CRM users (i.e., Taiwan’s enterprises) and to determine the key factors, which significantly affect enterprises’ managerial effectiveness and users’ satisfaction with cloud CRM. The basis for the research model is the Information System Success model and the characteristics of SaaS and CRM. This study has obtained contacts with Taiwan’s enterprises currently using cloud CRM, and the complete analyses of valid survey responses will occur shortly
