〈Original Papers〉Non-Linear Note Taking Based on Mind Map for Efficient Reading
[Abstract] We are expected to read a variety of books at school or job for various purposes. Many of us start reading from on page one and take information one after each other trying to understand the contents without doubting whether that reading style is the best. We generally make notes in sentence-based line structures without doubting whether that style is the best. Few people recognize such conventional styles might be considered useless work and wasting time. This paper will investigate reading and non-linear note making based on Mind Map, which is a radiational thinking technique focused on the brain functions, and developed by the British educator Tony Buzan. The paper also introduces several reading and note-making methods where mind and physical functions are focused on. Readers will understand reading involves several components, such as, preliminary arrangement, overview, preview, inview, review, note-making and recall. Several techniques for fast reading based on human physical functions will be introduced. Readers will also understand note making based on Mind Map corresponds with the brain semantic networks, and let your recall more efficient and easier and consequently makes text reading complete. Mind Map has possible applications to be adopted in leaning, job and any activity where creative thinking is required
Practical Application of Mind Map to Learning English
[Abstract]There have been various learning methods and new methods have always been introduced to the English language learners. However, there is no the best or the only method for your learning English. You can choose some out of them t o suit your learning style or purpose. It is worth trying all possibilities in your choice. One of the new possibilities is Mind Map. It is an expressive method of thinking developed by the British educator Tony Buzan. It is practically the diagram looks like the network of brain cells and actually corresponds with brain functions. Key images and key words, based on an individual way of thinking and associating, are drawn and written in the diagram, therefore, it will be an original one for the individual. Mind Map is considered to make memorization and recall easier and firmer because personal aspect and sensibility are involved in the process of its drawing. It is also believed to bring you new ideas. Mind Map can easily be drawn up following the basic rules offered. This paper introduces basic rules and procedures to draw up Mind Map and provides various examples showing how it can be produced, applied, and adopted to several genres of learning English. The paper also explains some features of Mind Map. A new hint on learning approach will be given
A Case of Hepatocellular Carcinoma with Bone Metastasis Responding to Radiotherapy after Successful Hepatectomy of Primary Lesion
Radical hepatectomy was carried out on a patient with hepatocellular carcinima (HCC) located in segment VIII of the liver. The patient was a 56-year-old man who showed positive for hepatitis C antibody and negative for hepatitis B surface antigen. Six months after hepatectomy, a lumbar plane X-ray and computed tomography examination revealed bone metastases in the lumbar vertebrae. The patient was subsequently treated by radiation to the lumbar vertebrae in response to lumbago. The metastatic lesion has been well controlled by radiotherapy on an oputpatient basis with no recurrence for 5 years and 3 months.
The prognosis of patients with HCC with distant metastases is poor. It is believed that the long survival of this patient can be attributed to successful radiotherapy of the bone metastasis after hepatectomy and the lack of recurrence in the liver
