    Health, Productivity, and Engagement: Using Modular Product Design to Integrally Improve the Workplace Environment

    With the fast pace of city life and workplace stress, there are growing concerns in relation to well-being and staying healthy. As a space that has relatively undefined functions in a work environment, breakrooms are increasingly expected to contribute to reducing these concerns. However, the vast majority of workplace breakrooms that exist are insufficiently designed achieving only basic functions such as sitting and eating. This thesis questions why existing workplace breakrooms are so neglected, when they have great potential to play a much more important role in the workplace. Firstly, this thesis discusses current literature and qualitative research on the users’ expectations for breakrooms and their current status. Secondly, it studies different academic fields including health, career development, workplace behavior, and public awareness of the workplace environment as well as abstract insights from the study. Thirdly, it digests these insights and ideates design solutions from them. The design solutions take ergonomics as the most fundamental theoretical basis, develop in the modular furniture design direction, and explore the innovative interactions between the users and the objects. Finally, this thesis proposes an integrated design solution in the form of a 3D-frame-shaped modular product. The final solution identifies more possibilities in the limited space of breakrooms to maximize their efficient utilization. It tries to impact the macroscopic working environment and social awareness by re-discussing the boundary between work and breaks

    A Study on Natural Lighting Design Strategies for Teaching Buildings in Hot-summer and Cold-winter Zone of China—A case of the Arts and Sciences Building of Xinyang Normal University

    The natural lighting of buildings plays an important role in creating a comfortable indoor light environment and reducing the energy consumption of artificial lighting. Teaching buildings have special requirements for the indoor light environment. Classroom glare, corridor backlit, and low natural illumination in corridor are light pollution problems easily appear in teaching building, which cannot be ignored in the design of teaching building. Regarding the issues above, the paper took the Arts and Sciences Building of Xinyang Normal University as an example, through the architectural modeling, space forms, facade effects and other features, used VELUX simulation software to simulate the illuminance and daylighting parameters of different sunroofs and provided solutions for classroom glare and corridor lighting. Ultimately, the paper analyzed the building lighting energy saving schemes based on regional climate and environment, and found out the best balance point for the energy saving design of lighting and thermal environment, meanwhile, provided valuable and practical reference for lighting design of corridor skylights in the region

    Suitability of Mycorrhiza-Defective Rice and Its Progenitor for Studies on the Control of Nitrogen Loss in Paddy Fields via Arbuscular Mycorrhiza

    Employing mycorrhiza-defective mutants and their progenitors does not require inoculation or elimination of the resident microbial community in the experimental study of mycorrhizal soil ecology. We aimed to examine the suitability of mycorrhiza-defective rice (non-mycorrhizal, Oryza sativa L., cv. Nipponbare) and its progenitor (mycorrhizal) to evaluate nitrogen (N) loss control from paddy fields via arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi. We grew the two rice lines in soils with the full community of AM fungi and investigated root AM colonization. In the absence of AM fungi, we estimated rice N content, soil N concentration and microbial community on the basis of phospholipid fatty acids; we also quantified N loss via NH3 volatilization, N2O emission, runoff and leaching. In the presence of AM fungi, we did not find any evidence of AM colonization for non-mycorrhizal rice while mycorrhizal rice was colonized and percentage of root colonization was 17–24%. In the absence of AM fungi, the two rice lines had similar N content, soil N concentration and microbial community. Importantly, there was no significant difference in N loss via all the four pathways between mycorrhizal and non-mycorrhizal systems. This mycorrhizal/non-mycorrhizal rice pair is suitable for further research on the role of AM fungi in the control of soil N loss in paddy fields

    Research on vibration characteristics of marine power-spilt gear system

    In order to carry out a more in-depth study on the vibration characteristics of the marine power-spilt gear system, a nonlinear dynamic model of a certain type of marine gearbox was established, taking into account factors such as dynamic backlash and time-varying mesh stiffness. The numerical simulation method was used to calculate the variation of the system vibration response with input speed, the torsional stiffness of the linkage shaft and the stiffness of the output shaft under different backlach. The results show that the system will occur resonance as the input speed increases; the torsional stiffness of the linkage axis has an optimal value, so that the vibration response amplitude of the system is the smallest; as the support stiffness of the output shaft increases, the vibration acceleration of the output shaft does not change much, while the vibration displacement is significantly reduced

    A new method calculating load balance of sliding bearing by using neural network PID algorithm

    Aiming at low efficiency of existing sliding bearing load balance calculation, a new method that based on neural network proportional-integral-derivative (PID) algorithm is proposed for the first time, in which a compound control algorithm combining neural network and PID algorithm is applied. In this new method, the load error is taken as the input of the system, and the eccentricity of the bearing is used as the input of the controller, and the output of the system is the oil film force of the bearing. Comparing with traditional method, calculation results show that: the number of iterations calculated by neural network PID algorithm is less than traditional one and has higher efficiency and stronger adaptability under different loads

    An Analysis of the Construction and Development of ‘Starry Star’ Training Camp in Zhengzhou City

    Since 2017, the Ministry of Education has taken the lead in establishing the \u27Starry Star\u27 pilot training camp. As a leading city of school football campaign/activity, Zhengzhou City takes up heavy responsibility of continuously promoting the rapid development of school football in Henan Province. This paper adopts such methodologies such as literature, fieldwork, mathematical statistics and logical analysis to identify the weaknesses in the current phase of construction and to make reasonable recommendations according to policies and the actual situation for pointing out the direction for the future development. In terms of organizational leadership, all relevant policies and documents are well-developed reflecting the high degree of importance attached to each training camp, but very few of them have omissions in the development of the system of admissions and training management regulations. In terms of condition guarantee, three aspects are prominent, including the treatment of coaches (calculation of hours), the size of the training grounds at each training site not meeting the requirements of the camps\u27 participation groups (due to limited size of the campus), and the lack of implementation of supporting funds (in the surrounding counties). In terms of competition and training, all schools lost points to varying degrees in the various detailed assessment indicators of the survey and assessment such as inappropriate teaching attitude of the teaching staff, unsystematic training syllabus, unfinished work arrangements for two tournaments and one practice and insufficient attention to the campers\u27 performance in cultural subjects. In terms of reserve training and training participation rate, nearly 30% of the camps failed to send outstanding athletes to higher level schools; half of the camps failed to ensure over 90% attendance of campers. It is suggested that relevant authorities should in future give standardized and clear policies regarding admissions and other related systems. Further, the authorities should clarify the way of coaches\u27 salary and title appraisal, focus on the implementation of matching funds for training camps, and gradually adjust the correspondence between matching camper groups and camp site conditions. As the main task of the Starry Star training camps, more attention should be placed in future work, improving policies, seriously correcting and dealing with various situations that affect the quality of race training in each camp. The authorities should optimize the way of supplying outstanding athletes, and at the same time strengthen regular inspections and random checks for the attendance, putting equal emphasis on training quality and participation

    Deploying Machine Learning Models to Ahead-of-Time Runtime on Edge Using MicroTVM

    In the past few years, more and more AI applications have been applied to edge devices. However, models trained by data scientists with machine learning frameworks, such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, can not be seamlessly executed on edge. In this paper, we develop an end-to-end code generator parsing a pre-trained model to C source libraries for the backend using MicroTVM, a machine learning compiler framework extension addressing inference on bare metal devices. An analysis shows that specific compute-intensive operators can be easily offloaded to the dedicated accelerator with a Universal Modular Accelerator (UMA) interface, while others are processed in the CPU cores.     Fatigue crack propagation behavior of Ni-based superalloys after overloading at elevated temperatures

    AbstractThe fatigue crack propagation behavior of three superalloys subjected to a single overloading at elevated temperatures was investigated. The fatigue crack propagation rate FCPR versus stress intensity factor range data da/dN—ΔK were calculated using the two-point secant method. It was found that the crack growth rates of the investigated materials were retarded after overloading with an overload ratio ROL=1.6. The size of the plastic zone in the front of the crack tip and its relation to loading level were discussed. The overload retardation effects are attributed to crack closure. The fatigue damage in the plastic zone can also be a factor to explain the overload retardation
