Forty-four species of Dolichopodidae are listed from the island of Singapore, with 28 of these constituting new records for the country. One new genus: Ngirhaphium; and five new species: Thinophilus murphyi, Thinophilus asiobates, Thinophilus longicilia, Ngirhaphium murphyi, and Scotiomyia singaporensis, are described and illustrated

Notes on the halobiont genus Chersodromia (Diptera: Hybotidae) from Tunisia with the description of a new brachypterous species and notes on brachyptery in empidoids

A recent collection on a sandy beach in Tunisia revealed the presence of three species of Chersodromia. The presence of Ch. albopilosa CHVALA, 1970 in Tunisia is confirmed. Ch. nigrosetosa CHVALA, 1970 is recorded for the first time for Tunisia and Ch. tunisiana sp. nov., a micropterous species related to Ch. curtipennis COLLIN and neocurtipennis BESCHOVSKI, is described as new for science. A checklist for Chersodromia of North Africa is given. Brachyptery in empidoids is discussed

A preliminary report is given on the marine Dolichopodidae from the Thai coasts of the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Siam. Fifteen species in 7 genera are identified. Keys to the genera and the species are provided together with short diagnoses to the species. Seven species are described as new: Cymatopus thaicus, new species, Thinolestris thaica, new species, Thinophilus nitens, new species, Th. parmatus, new species, Thinophilus setiventris, new species, Nanothinophilus hoplites, new species and Phacaspis mitis, new species

A new Syndyas Loew, 1857 (Diptera: Hybotidae: Hybotinae) from mangroves in Singapore, with a review of the oriental and Australasian species

Syndyas singaporensis, new species, is described from mangroves in Singapore. Syndyas aterrima de Meijere, 1913 (Ceram, Indonesia), S. brevior de Meijere, 1910, (Krakatau, Indonesia) and S. elongata de Meijere, 1910, (Java, Indonesia) are redescribed. Lectotypes are designated for S. elongata and S. brevior. A key, as well as a checklist, are given for all Oriental and Australasian species

Notes on Chersodromia from Portugal, Spain and France with the description of a new brachypterous species (Diptera, Hybotidae, Tachydromiinae)

Chersodromia squamata sp. nov. is described from Portugal and Spain. A key is given to the four known species of the Ch. curtipennis subgroup in the Ch. incana group. In addition Ch. incana Walker is re-illustrated and the species is recorded for the first time from France and Portugal. Chersodromia alata (Walker) (= Ch. difficilis Lundbeck) is also recorded for the first time from France and Spain

Therevidae (Diptera) in the East-Flemish inland dunes, pioneers on sandy soils?

Get PDF
Relicts of East-Flemish inland dunes were investigated for the presence of dune-land fauna. Five of the 8 therevid species known from Flanders were found in the present study. In contrast to asilids, therevids showed to be pioneer species preferring areas with large bare sandy patches. Pit fall traps proved to be twice as effective to sample therevids than white or yellow pan traps. Yellow traps are ineffective. Highest activity and diversity is found in June and July

Thirteen species of Teuchophorus (Dolichopodidae: Sympycninae) are reported from Singapore. Nine species are new to science and are described and illustrated. Only one species from the T. conspicuus - notabilis group was found: T. ornatulus Meuffels & Grootaert. Three species belong to the T. gratiosus group (former genus Mastigomyia Becker) that is supposed to be arboricolous: T. temasek, new species, T. neesoonensis, new species, and T. antennatus, new species, T. spinulosus new species, and T. acuminatus, new species. T. pauper from Thailand is re-examined and illustrated. Three species belong to the T. pectinatus group and all live here in mangrove: T. simplicissimus Meuffels & Grootaert, T. limosus, new species, T. bulohensis, new species. Two species are considered incertae sedis and not assigned to a species group: T. krabiensis Meuffels & Grootaert, a species from coastal sandy beaches and T. stenostigma Meuffels & Grootaert, a species from stream beds in forest. A key is given for all Singaporean species. In addition, some records of species from Malaysia are given and a mangrove species from Pulau Tioman (Malaysia) related to Singaporean mangrove species is described as well
