Neural precursor cells tune striatal connectivity through the release of IGFBPL1

The adult brain retains over life endogenous neural stem/precursor cells (eNPCs) within the subventricular zone (SVZ). Whether or not these cells exert physiological functions is still unclear. In the present work, we provide evidence that SVZ-eNPCs tune structural, electrophysiological, and behavioural aspects of striatal function via secretion of insulin-like growth factor binding protein-like 1 (IGFBPL1). In mice, selective ablation of SVZ-eNPCs or selective abrogation of IGFBPL1 determined an impairment of striatal medium spiny neuron morphology, a higher failure rate in GABAergic transmission mediated by fast-spiking interneurons, and striatum-related behavioural dysfunctions. We also found IGFBPL1 expression in the human SVZ, foetal and induced-pluripotent stem cell-derived NPCs. Finally, we found a significant correlation between SVZ damage, reduction of striatum volume, and impairment of information processing speed in neurological patients. Our results highlight the physiological role of adult SVZ-eNPCs in supporting cognitive functions by regulating striatal neuronal activity

"Forme mutate in nuovi corpi". Le Metamorfosi di Ovidio illustrate nel codice Panciatichi 63

Il manoscritto Panciatichi 63, conservato alla Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Firenze, tramanda la versione in volgare delle Metamorfosi di Ovidio redatta dal notaio Arrigo Simintendi da Prato. Il codice trecentesco, realizzato in ambito fiorentino, \ue8 l\u2019unico testimone illustrato di questo volgarizzamento, il primo a distinguersi dalla tradizione letteraria medievale che reinterpretava in chiave allegorica o moralizzante l\u2019opera ovidiana. I vivaci disegni a penna e inchiostro acquerellato raffigurano le favole mitologiche del poema, costituendo un commento per immagini che accompagna la lettura del testo. In questo viaggio attraverso il mondo dei miti, l\u2019autrice mette in luce le scelte figurative operate dall'illustratore che attinge alla cultura artistica del suo tempo per dare vita a divinit\ue0, ninfe ed eroi della tradizione classica. Tra analisi stilistica e ricerca iconografica emerge la complessit\ue0 delle illustrazioni mitologiche in questo unico e raffinato volgarizzamento

Manoscritti degli Ab Urbe condita libri di Tito Livio illustrati nel Medioevo

La presente tesi è dedicata ai manoscritti degli Ab Urbe condita libri (decadi I, III e IV) di Tito Livio illustrati nel Medioevo. L’opera dello storico patavino è sempre stata al centro di numerose ricerche filologiche, volte alla ricostruzione della trasmissione testuale, ma ha riscosso minore fortuna nel settore degli studi storico-artistici. Per tale ragione si intende offrire uno studio complessivo e sistematico dell’illustrazione medievale dell’opera di Livio, resa possibile per la prima volta grazie alla redazione del censimento dei manoscritti latini e volgarizzati, realizzati in Italia tra gli ultimi decenni del XIII secolo e la fine del XIV secolo. Questo corpus di manoscritti illustrati viene analizzato dal punto di vista stilistico per precisare la datazione e il contesto storico-artistico di produzione. Inoltre, sono presi in considerazione anche il rapporto testo-immagine, la scelta delle tematiche raffigurate e l’elaborazione iconografica, legata alla cultura figurativa dei miniatori e alle richieste della committenza che influiscono sull'ideazione dei sistemi illustrativi.This thesis is dedicated to the illustration of the manuscripts of the Ab Urbe Condita libri (decades I, III and IV) by Livy in the Middle Ages. The work of this Paduan historian has always been at the centre of numerous philological research studies, aimed at the reconstruction of textual transmission, but has received less recognition in the field of historical-artistic studies. For this reason, this thesis intends to offer a comprehensive and systematic study of the medieval illustration of Livy's work, made possible for the first time thanks to the inventory of Latin and vulgarised manuscripts, produced in Italy between the last decades of the 13th century and the late 14th century. This corpus of illustrated manuscripts is analysed from the stylistic point of view to specify the dating and the historical-artistic context of production. Furthermore, this research takes into consideration the text-image relationship, the choice of the depicted themes and the iconographic elaboration which is associated with the figurative culture of the illuminators and to the requests of the clients that influence the conception of illustrative systems
