International Interventionism 1970-1989: A Count Data Approach
Due to progress in statistical methods and improved data processing capabilities, count data modelling has become increasingly popular in the social sciences. In empirical international relations and international conflict research, however, the use of event count models has been largely restricted to the application of the simple Poisson approach so far. This article outlines the methodological weaknesses of the model and presents some improvements which are applied to the problem of international interventionism. The cross-sectional data set used covers the behaviour of states during the period from 1970 to 1989, and thus avoids some theoretical problems of the standard long-term dyadic approach. The main result of the analysis is the empirical irrelevance of idealist conceptions claiming pacifying effects of democratization or fostering of economic prosperity
List decoding of a class of affine variety codes
Consider a polynomial in variables and a finite point ensemble . When given the leading monomial of with respect to
a lexicographic ordering we derive improved information on the possible number
of zeros of of multiplicity at least from . We then use this
information to design a list decoding algorithm for a large class of affine
variety codes.Comment: 11 pages, 5 table
On Steane-Enlargement of Quantum Codes from Cartesian Product Point Sets
In this work, we study quantum error-correcting codes obtained by using
Steane-enlargement. We apply this technique to certain codes defined from
Cartesian products previously considered by Galindo et al. in [4]. We give
bounds on the dimension increase obtained via enlargement, and additionally
give an algorithm to compute the true increase. A number of examples of codes
are provided, and their parameters are compared to relevant codes in the
literature, which shows that the parameters of the enlarged codes are
advantageous. Furthermore, comparison with the Gilbert-Varshamov bound for
stabilizer quantum codes shows that several of the enlarged codes match or
exceed the parameters promised by the bound.Comment: 12 page
Gas flow environmental and heat transfer nonrotating 3D program
A complete set of benchmark quality data for the flow and heat transfer within a large rectangular turning duct is being compiled. These data will be used to evaluate and verify three dimensional internal viscous flow models and computational codes. The analytical objective is to select such a computational code and define the capabilities of this code to predict the experimental results. Details of the proper code operation will be defined and improvements to the code modeling capabilities will be formulated
