Recent developments in multilevel optimization
Recent developments in multilevel optimization are briefly reviewed. The general nature of the multilevel design task, the use of approximations to develop and solve the analysis design task, the structure of the formal multidiscipline optimization problem, a simple cantilevered beam which demonstrates the concepts of multilevel design and the basic mathematical details of the optimization task and the system level are among the topics discussed

COPES/ADS - A FORTRAN COntrol Program for Engineering Synthesis using the ADS optimization program
A FORTRAN Control Program for Engineering Synthesis (COPES) is
presented for solving engineering design problems. This program uses
the general-purpose optimization code ADS (Automated Design Synthesis)
to provide a versatile design optimization capability. The program
minimizes or maximizes a numerically defined objective function subject
to a set of constraint limits. In addition to direct optimization,
COPES includes approximation techniques as well as the capability to
perform conventional parametric studies. Programming guidelines are
presented, followed by sample input data and output for the various
program options.Prepared for: Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA.http://archive.org/details/codesadsfortranc00vandN
COPES - A FORTRAN Control Program for Engineering Synthesis
A FORTRAN COntrol Program for Engineering Synthesis (COPES)
has been developed for solving engineering design problems. The
program maximizes or minimizes a numerically defined objective
function subject to a set of inequality constraint functions.
COPES uses the optimization program, C0NMIN, which includes
the conjugate direction method of Fletcher and Reeves for unconstrained function minimization and a modification of Zoutendijk's method of feasible directions for constrained
function minimization. Additionally, approximation techniques
are available for use in optimization, and trade-off studies
may be performed. A simple design example demonstrates the
program capabilities. Programming guidelines are presented followed by sample input data and output for each program option.http://archive.org/details/copesfortrancont00madsThis project was unfunded.NAApproved for public release; distribution is unlimited
LASTOP : a computer code for laser turret optimization of small perturbation turrets in subsonic or supersonic flow
A program has been developed which calculates optical path length
and phase distortion arising from the density field surrounding a
laser turret. Further, the program finds the optimum turret shape
yielding minimum phase distortion. The aerodynamic model is briefly
described; however, the optimization and control codes are thoroughly
presented. Sample data input and sample output are given. The
program is listed. The material is presented in detail so that this report constitutes a user's manual.http://archive.org/details/lastopcomputerco00vandAF185 Project Order No. 77-050N
