The self-energy of a charged particle in the presence of a topological defect distribution
In this work we study a charged particle in the presence of both a continuous
distribution of disclinations and a continuous distribution of edge
dislocations in the framework of the geometrical theory of defects. We obtain
the self-energy for a single charge both in the internal and external regions
of either distribution. For both distributions the result outside the defect
distribution is the self-energy that a single charge experiments in the
presence of a single defect.Comment: 12 pages, Revtex4, two figures,to appear in Int. Joun. Mod. Phys.

Gravitational Geometric Phase in the Presence of Torsion
We investigate the relativistic and non-relativistic quantum dynamics of a
neutral spin-1/2 particle submitted an external electromagnetic field in the
presence of a cosmic dislocation. We analyze the explicit contribution of the
torsion in the geometric phase acquired in the dynamic of this neutral
spinorial particle. We discuss the influence of the torsion in the relativistic
geometric phase. Using the Foldy-Wouthuysen approximation, the non-relativistic
quantum dynamics are studied and the influence of the torsion in the
Aharonov-Casher and He-McKellar-Wilkens effects are discussed.Comment: 14 pages, no figur
Self-Forces on Electric and Magnetic Linear Sources in the Space-Time of a Cosmic String
In this paper we calculate the magnetic and electric self-forces, induced by
the conical structure of a cosmic string space-time, on a long straight wire
which presents either a constant current or a linear charge density. We also
show how these self-forces are related by a Lorentz tranformation and, in this
way, explain what two different inertial observers detect in their respective
frames.Comment: 10 pages, LaTeX, to be published in Phys. Rev. D
Dientes de Abelisauridae y Carcharodontosauridae cf. (Theropoda, Dinosauria) del Campaniano-Maastrichtiano Formación Presidente Prudente (Suroeste Provincia de São Paulo, Brasil)
Isolated theropod teeth referable to Abelisauridae indet., and Carcharodontosauridae cf., from the Campanian-Maastrichtian Presidente Prudente Formation of the western São Paulo State, Brazil, are described. They are compared to the Late Cretaceous Gondwanan theropod dinosaur teeth and their affinities are discussed. These teeth are significant because carnivorous dinosaur remains are poorly known from the Late Cretaceous beds of Western São Paulo State except for a few isolated elements.
The Noncommutative Anandan's Quantum Phase
In this work we study the noncommutative nonrelativistic quantum dynamics of
a neutral particle, that possesses permanent magnetic and electric dipole
momenta, in the presence of an electric and magnetic fields. We use the
Foldy-Wouthuysen transformation of the Dirac spinor with a non-minimal coupling
to obtain the nonrelativistic limit. In this limit, we will study the
noncommutative quantum dynamics and obtain the noncommutative Anandan's
geometric phase. We analyze the situation where magnetic dipole moment of the
particle is zero and we obtain the noncommutative version of the
He-McKellar-Wilkens effect. We demonstrate that this phase in the
noncommutative case is a geometric dispersive phase. We also investigate this
geometric phase considering the noncommutativity in the phase space and the
Anandan's phase is obtained.Comment: 15 pages, revtex4, version to appear in Physical Review
Lorentz-violating extension of scalar QED at finite temperature
In this work, we calculate the one-loop self-energy corrections to the gauge
field in scalar electrodynamics modified by Lorentz-violating terms within the
framework of the standard model extension (SME). We focus on both -even
and -odd contributions. The kinetic part of the scalar sector contains a
-even symmetric Lorentz-breaking tensor, and the interaction terms include
a vector contracted with the usual covariant derivative in a gauge-invariant
manner. We computed the one-loop radiative corrections using dimensional
regularization for both the -even and -odd cases. Additionally, we
employed the Matsubara formalism to account for finite temperature effects.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, matches published version in PL
