    Fate of MTBE and DCPD Compounds Relative to BTEX in Gasoline-Contaminated Aquifers

    The aim of this communication is to provide preliminary results on MTBE monitoring, and at the same time to propose some new tracers of gasoline pollution in groundwater. An overview is presented on benzene-toluene-ethylbenzene-xylene (BTEX), methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), and dicyclopentadienes (DCPD) contents in gasoline formulations. Their specific fate in gasoline-contaminated aquifers are consistent with their physical-chemical properties

    Supersymmetric Black Rings on Eguchi-Hanson Space

    We construct new supersymmetric black ring solutions on the Eguchi-Hanson base space as solutions of five-dimensional minimal supergravity. The solutions have the same two angular momentum components and the asymptotic structure on timeslices is asymptotically locally Euclidean. The S^1-direction of the black ring is along the equator on a S^2-bolt on the Eguchi-Hanson space. We also investigate the limit to a black hole, which describes the BMPV black hole with the topology of the lens space L(2;1)=S^3/Z_2.Comment: 21 page

    Chronic proliferative rhinitis in sheep: An update

    Chronic proliferative rhinitis (CPR) is a slow and progressive upper respiratory tract disease of sheep with a poor prognosis for affected animals. It causes a proliferative inflammation of the ventral nasal turbinates with uni or bilateral affection that may totally obstruct the nasal cavity. Salmonella enterica subspecies diarizonae serovar 61:k:1, 5, (7) has been associated with the disease. This microorganism, host-adapted of tonsils and nasal cavity of sheep, has been isolated in pure culture from the nasal cavity in all reported cases of CPR. However, its etiopathogenesis, mechanism of transmission and its involvement with the disease are still unknown. The present article focuses on describing the current knowledge about this disease gathering the published information and offering some new data on the latest research carried out on chronic proliferative rhinitis in sheep

    The spatial relation between the event horizon and trapping horizon

    The relation between event horizons and trapping horizons is investigated in a number of different situations with emphasis on their role in thermodynamics. A notion of constant change is introduced that in certain situations allows the location of the event horizon to be found locally. When the black hole is accreting matter the difference in area between the two different horizons can be many orders of magnitude larger than the Planck area. When the black hole is evaporating the difference is small on the Planck scale. A model is introduced that shows how trapping horizons can be expected to appear outside the event horizon before the black hole starts to evaporate. Finally a modified definition is introduced to invariantly define the location of the trapping horizon under a conformal transformation. In this case the trapping horizon is not always a marginally outer trapped surface.Comment: 16 pages, 1 figur

    Relativistic Viscous Fluid Dynamics and Non-Equilibrium Entropy

    Fluid dynamics corresponds to the dynamics of a substance in the long wavelength limit. Writing down all terms in a gradient (long wavelength) expansion up to second order for a relativistic system at vanishing charge density, one obtains the most general (causal) equations of motion for a fluid in the presence of shear and bulk viscosity, as well as the structure of the non-equilibrium entropy current. Requiring positivity of the divergence of the non-equilibrium entropy current relates some of its coefficients to those entering the equations of motion.     Three Charge Supertubes in Type IIB Plane Wave Backgrounds

    We deform the supersymmetric black ring of five dimensional supergravity coupled to N-1 vector multiplets to obtain an asymptotically Goedel supersymmetric black ring. For the U(1)^3 model we lift this solution to obtain a three charge D1-D5-P supertube which asymptotes to a 1/2 supersymmetric plane wave of Type IIB supergravity. Further, we also show how one may deform the asymptotically flat three charge supertube of type IIB, in the special case of vanishing KK dipole charge, to a three charge supertube which asymptotes to the maximally supersymmetric plane wave.Comment: 1+14 pages, JHEP

    Subtracted Geometry From Harrison Transformations

    We consider the rotating non-extremal black hole of N=2 D=4 STU supergravity carrying three magnetic charges and one electric charge. We show that its subtracted geometry is obtained by applying a specific SO(4,4) Harrison transformation on the black hole.
