The PAPR and Simple PAPR Reduction of the 2D Spreading Based Communication Systems

    Get PDF
This paper deals with Peak to Average Power Ra- tio (PAPR) characteristics and the theory of variable spread- ing factor orthogonal frequency and code division multiplex- ing (VSF-OFCDM) systems. Comparison and evaluation of PAPR of VSF-OFCDM systems with various 2D spreading factors (SF) are done in time and in frequency domain. The simple PAPR reduction approach based on random chip in- terleaving is also evaluated

Expert Systems for Integrated Development: A Case Study of Shanxi Province, The People's Republic of China

    Get PDF
The research and development project described in this status report is a collaborative project between IIASA and the Tate Science and Technology Commission of the People's Republic of China (SSTCC). The project objective is to build a computer-based information and decision support system, using expert systems technology, for regional development planning in Shanxi, a coal-rich province in northwestern China. Building on IIASA's experience in applied systems analysis, the project develops and implements a new generation of computer-based tools, integrating classical approaches of operations research and applied systems analysis with new developments in computer technology and artificial intelligence (AI) into an integrated hybrid system, designed for direct practical application. To provide the required information, several databases, simulation and optimization models, and decision support tools have been integrated. This information is presented in a form directly useful to planners and decision makers. The system is therefore structured along concepts of expert systems technology, includes several AI components, and features an easy-to-use color graphics user interface. The study is being carried out with intensive collaboration between IIASA, and Chinese academic, industrial, and governmental institutions, especially the regional government of Shanxi Province. The report describes the status of the project after one year of research, summarizing the problem area, the design principles of the software and the current status of prototype implementations

Chip Interleaving and its Optimization for PAPR Reduction in MC-CDMA

    Get PDF
This paper analyzes the usability of peak to average power ratio (PAPR) reduction in multicarrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) by the chip interleaving optimization. This means chip position formatting to PAPR minimization. One chip interleaving pattern is used for all users in system (all spreading sequences). Dependency on number of subcarriers and spreading sequence length is simulated. The impact on amplitude histogram is presented and relation to random interleaving pattern is shown

Technical Workflow Development for Integrating Drone Surveys and Entomological Sampling to Characterise Aquatic Larval Habitats of Anopheles funestus in Agricultural Landscapes in Côte d'Ivoire.

Land-use practices such as agriculture can impact mosquito vector breeding ecology, resulting in changes in disease transmission. The typical breeding habitats of Africa's second most important malaria vector Anopheles funestus are large, semipermanent water bodies, which make them potential candidates for targeted larval source management. This is a technical workflow for the integration of drone surveys and mosquito larval sampling, designed for a case study aiming to characterise An. funestus breeding sites near two villages in an agricultural setting in Côte d'Ivoire. Using satellite remote sensing data, we developed an environmentally and spatially representative sampling frame and conducted paired mosquito larvae and drone mapping surveys from June to August 2021. To categorise the drone imagery, we also developed a land cover classification scheme with classes relative to An. funestus breeding ecology. We sampled 189 potential breeding habitats, of which 119 (63%) were positive for the Anopheles genus and nine (4.8%) were positive for An. funestus. We mapped 30.42 km2 of the region of interest including all water bodies which were sampled for larvae. These data can be used to inform targeted vector control efforts, although its generalisability over a large region is limited by the fine-scale nature of this study area. This paper develops protocols for integrating drone surveys and statistically rigorous entomological sampling, which can be adjusted to collect data on vector breeding habitats in other ecological contexts. Further research using data collected in this study can enable the development of deep-learning algorithms for identifying An. funestus breeding habitats across rural agricultural landscapes in Côte d'Ivoire and the analysis of risk factors for these sites

Performance of Pilot Aided Channel Estimation Technique in 2D Spreading Based Systems

    Get PDF
It has recently been observed that the combination of the OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex) and the CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) can achieve notably lower BER (Bit Error Rate) performance in comparison with OFDM itself. The paper reports on the actual topic of the efficient channel estimation in 2D spreading based systems e.q. VSF-OFCDM (Variable Spreading Factor - Orthogonal Frequency Multiple Acces). The different methods for acquisition of channel state information from pilot carriers are used. The simulations are made for different ETSI channel models

OFDM Signal Detector Based on Cyclic Autocorrelation Function and its Properties

    Get PDF
This paper is devoted to research of the general and particular properties of the OFDM signal detector based on the cyclic autocorrelation function. The cyclic autocorrelation function is estimated using DFT. The parameters of the testing signal have been chosen according to 802.11g WLAN. Some properties are described analytically; all events are examined via computer simulations. It is shown that the detector is able to detect an OFDM signal in the case of multipath propagation, inexact frequency synchronization and without time synchronization. The sensitivity of the detector could be decreased in the above cases. An important condition for proper value of the detector sampling interval was derived. Three types of the channels were studied and compared. Detection threshold SNR=-9 dB was found for the signal under consideration and for two-way propagation

    Variance based OFDM frame synchronization

    Get PDF
The paper deals with a new frame synchronization scheme for OFDM systems and calculates the complexity of this scheme. The scheme is based on the computing of the detection window variance. The variance is computed in two delayed times, so a modified Early-Late loop is used for the frame position detection. The proposed algorithm deals with different variants of OFDM parameters including guard interval, cyclic prefix, and has good properties regarding the choice of the algorithm's parameters since the parameters may be chosen within a wide range without having a high influence on system performance. The verification of the proposed algorithm functionality has been performed on a development environment using universal software radio peripheral (USRP) hardware
