Two-dimensional Poisson Trees converge to the Brownian web

The Brownian web can be roughly described as a family of coalescing one-dimensional Brownian motions starting at all times in R\R and at all points of R\R. It was introduced by Arratia; a variant was then studied by Toth and Werner; another variant was analyzed recently by Fontes, Isopi, Newman and Ravishankar. The two-dimensional \emph{Poisson tree} is a family of continuous time one-dimensional random walks with uniform jumps in a bounded interval. The walks start at the space-time points of a homogeneous Poisson process in R2\R^2 and are in fact constructed as a function of the point process. This tree was introduced by Ferrari, Landim and Thorisson. By verifying criteria derived by Fontes, Isopi, Newman and Ravishankar, we show that, when properly rescaled, and under the topology introduced by those authors, Poisson trees converge weakly to the Brownian web.Comment: 22 pages, 1 figure. Large deviations principle for Curie-Weiss models with random fields

In this article we consider an extension of the classical Curie-Weiss model in which the global and deterministic external magnetic field is replaced by local and random external fields which interact with each spin of the system. We prove a Large Deviations Principle for the so-called {\it magnetization per spin} Sn/nS_n/n with respect to the associated Gibbs measure, where Sn/nS_n/n is the scaled partial sum of spins. In particular, we obtain an explicit expression for the LDP rate function, which enables an extensive study of the phase diagram in some examples. It is worth mentioning that the model considered in this article covers, in particular, both the case of i.\,i.\,d.\ random external fields (also known under the name of random field Curie-Weiss models) and the case of dependent random external fields generated by e.\,g.\ Markov chains or dynamical systems.Comment: 11 page
