    Superconductivity in silicon nanostructures

We present the findings of the superconductivity observed in the silicon nanostructures prepared by short time diffusion of boron on the n-type Si(100) surface. These Si-based nanostructures represent the p-type ultra-narrow self-assembled silicon quantum wells, 2nm, confined by the delta - barriers heavily doped with boron, 3nm. The EPR and the thermo-emf studies show that the delta - barriers appear to consist of the trigonal dipole centres, which are caused by the negative-U reconstruction of the shallow boron acceptors. Using the CV and thermo-emf techniques, the transport of two-dimensional holes inside SQW is demonstrated to be accompanied by single-hole tunneling through these negative-U centres that results in the superconductivity of the delta - barriers. The values of the correlation gaps obtained from these measurements are in a good agreement with the data derived from the temperature and magnetic field dependencies of the magnetic susceptibility, which reveal a strong diamagnetism and additionally identify the superconductor gap value.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figures, presented at the 4th International Conference on Vortex Matter in Superconductors, Crete, Greece, September 3-9, 200

Flux-Line Lattice Structures in Untwinned YBa2Cu3O

A small angle neutron scattering study of the flux-line lattice in a large single crystal of untwinned YBa2Cu3O is presented. In fields parallel to the c-axis, diffraction spots are observed corresponding to four orientations of a hexagonal lattice, distorted by the a-b anisotropy. A value for the anisotropy, the penetration depth ratio, of 1.18(2) was obtained. The high quality of the data is such that second order diffraction is observed, indicating a well ordered FLL. With the field at 33 degrees to c a field dependent re-orientation of the lattice is observed around 3T.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

Resistive state of superconducting structures with fractal clusters of a normal phase

The effect of morphologic factors on magnetic flux dynamics and critical currents in percolative superconducting structures is considered. The superconductor contains the fractal clusters of a normal phase, which act as pinning centers. The properties of these clusters are analyzed in the general case of gamma-distribution of their areas. The statistical characteristics of the normal phase clusters are studied, the critical current distribution is derived, and the dependencies of the main statistical parameters on the fractal dimension are found. The effect of fractal clusters of a normal phase on the electric field induced by the motion of the magnetic flux after the vortices have been broken away from pinning centers is considered. The voltage-current characteristics of fractal superconducting structures in a resistive state for an arbitrary fractal dimension are obtained. It is found that the fractality of the boundaries of normal phase clusters intensifies magnetic flux trapping and thereby increases the current-carrying capability of the superconductor.Comment: 15 pages with 8 figures, revtex3, alternative e-mail of author is [email protected]

    ПРОФИЛАКТИКА КАТЕТЕР-АССОЦИИРОВАННЫХ ИНФЕКЦИЙ В ОНКОПЕДИАТРИИ

Success in the treatment of cancer in children, made in the past decade is caused by the introduction of multimodal treatment programs, in which chemotherapy plays a leading role. Its effectiveness is due not only the development of pharmacology, but also the intensification of treatment protocols - increasing doses of chemotherapy, the number of courses and a reduction in the intervals between the courses. This, in turn, requires an accompanying complex therapy for the prevention and correction of complications and side effects. Because of the main route of administration as the chemotherapeutic and accompanying drugs is intravenous, it imposes strict requirements on the systems of central venous access. They must be secure, easy to use, once installed on the entire treatment period, to have a minimum percentage of complications during the installation and using and also not to reduce the quality of life of patients. Such conditions are especially important in pediatric oncology as any central venous catheterization in children is invasive procedure requiring general anesthesia. Currently, implantable venous port systems are met all of the above requirements.

Angle-resolved photoemission study of insulating and metallic Cu-O chains in PrBa2_2Cu3_3O7_7 and PrBa2_2Cu4_4O8_8

We compare the angle-resolved photoemission spectra of the hole-doped Cu-O chains in PrBa2_2Cu3_3O7_7 (Pr123) and in PrBa2_2Cu4_4O8_8 (Pr124). While, in Pr123, a dispersive feature from the chain takes a band maximum at kbk_b (momentum along the chain) \sim π/4\pi/4 and loses its spectral weight around the Fermi level, it reaches the Fermi level at kbk_b \sim π/4\pi/4 in Pr124. Although the chains in Pr123 and Pr124 are approximately 1/4-filled, they show contrasting behaviors: While the chains in Pr123 have an instability to charge ordering, those in Pr124 avoid it and show an interesting spectral feature of a metallic coupled-chain system.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, to be published in PR

Azimuthal anisotropy and correlations in the hard scattering regime at RHIC

    Get PDF
Azimuthal anisotropy (v2v_2) and two-particle angular correlations of high pTp_T charged hadrons have been measured in Au+Au collisions at sNN\sqrt{s_{NN}}=130 GeV for transverse momenta up to 6 GeV/c, where hard processes are expected to contribute significantly. The two-particle angular correlations exhibit elliptic flow and a structure suggestive of fragmentation of high pTp_T partons. The monotonic rise of v2(pT)v_2(p_T) for pT<2p_T<2 GeV/c is consistent with collective hydrodynamical flow calculations. At \pT>3 GeV/c a saturation of v2v_2 is observed which persists up to pT=6p_T=6 GeV/c.Comment: As publishe

Commensurate dynamic magnetic correlations in La2(Cu,Li)O4

When sufficient numbers of holes are introduced into the two-dimensional CuO2 square lattice, dynamic magnetic correlations become incommensurate with underlying lattice in all previously investigated La_{2-x}A_xCu_{1-z}B_zO_{4+y} (A=Sr or Nd, B=Zn) including high T_C superconductors and insulators, and in bilayered superconducting YBa_2Cu_3O_{6.6} and Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_8. Magnetic correlations also become incommensurate in structurally related La_2NiO_4 when doped with Sr or O. We report an exception to this so-far well established experimental "rule" in La_2Cu_{1-z}Li_{z}O_4 in which magnetic correlations remain commensurate.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, revised version as for publicatio

Azimuthal anisotropy of K0S and Lambda + Lambda -bar production at midrapidity from Au+Au collisions at sqrt[sNN]=130 GeV

    Get PDF
We report STAR results on the azimuthal anisotropy parameter v2 for strange particles K0S, Lambda , and Lambda -bar at midrapidity in Au+Au collisions at sqrt[sNN]=130 GeV at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The value of v2 as a function of transverse momentum, pt, of the produced particle and collision centrality is presented for both particles up to pt~3.0 GeV/c. A strong pt dependence in v2 is observed up to 2.0 GeV/c. The v2 measurement is compared with hydrodynamic model calculations. The physics implications of the pt integrated v2 magnitude as a function of particle mass are also discussed.Alle Autoren: C. Adler, Z. Ahammed, C. Allgower, J. Amonett, B. D. Anderson, M.
