Power Corrections in Charmless B Decays
In this paper, we focus on the role of power corrections in QCD
factorization(QCDF) method in charmless two-body nonleptonic meson decays.
We use the ratio of the branching fraction of to
that of , for which the theoretical uncertainties are
greatly reduced, to show clearly that the power corrections in charmless B
decays are probably large. With other similar ratios considered, for example,
for the decay, it is very likely that, among various
sources of power corrections, annihilation topology plays an indispensable role
at least for penguin dominated channels. We also consider some
selective ratios of direct CP asymmetries. Among these, we find that, if power
corrections other than the chirally enhanced power corrections and annihilation
topology were negligible, QCDF would predict the direct CP asymmetry of to be about 3 times larger than that of ,
with opposite sign. Experimentally any significant deviation from this
prediction would suggest either new physics or possibly the importance of
long-distance rescattering effects.Comment: references and note added, to appear in Phys. Rev.
Experimental implementation of high-fidelity unconventional geometric quantum gates using NMR interferometer
Following a key idea of unconventional geometric quantum computation
developed earlier [Phys. Rev. Lett. 91, 197902 (2003)], here we propose a more
general scheme in such an intriguing way: , where and are respectively the dynamic and
geometric phases accumulated in the quantum gate operation, with as a
constant and being dependent only on the geometric feature of the
operation. More arrestingly, we demonstrate the first experiment to implement a
universal set of such kind of generalized unconventional geometric quantum
gates with high fidelity in an NMR system.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
A non-local vector calculus,non-local volume-constrained problems,and non-local balance laws
A vector calculus for nonlocal operators is developed, including the definition of nonlocal divergence, gradient, and curl operators and the derivation of the corresponding adjoints operators. Nonlocal analogs of several theorems and identities of the vector calculus for differential operators are also presented. Relationships between the nonlocal operators and their differential counterparts are established, first in a distributional sense and then in a weak sense by considering weighted integrals of the nonlocal adjoint operators. The nonlocal calculus gives rise to volume-constrained problems that are analogous to elliptic boundary-value problems for differential operators; this is demonstrated via some examples. Another application is posing abstract nonlocal balance laws and deriving the corresponding nonlocal field equations
Semileptonic and nonleptonic decays in three--point QCD sum rules and factorization approach
We analyze the semileptonic transition with , in the framework of the three--point QCD sum rules and the nonleptonic
decay within the QCD factorization approach. We study to
and transition form factors by separating the mixture
of the and states. Using the transition form factors of
the , we analyze the nonleptonic decay. We also
present the decay amplitude and decay width of these decays in terms of the
transition form factors. The branching ratios of these channel modes are also
calculated at different values of the mixing angle and compared
with the existing experimental data for the nonleptonic case.Comment: 28 Pages, 20 Figures and 9 Table
Examining the effects of emotional valence and arousal on takeover performance in conditionally automated driving
In conditionally automated driving, drivers have difficulty in takeover transitions as they become increasingly decoupled from the operational level of driving. Factors influencing takeover performance, such as takeover lead time and the engagement of non-driving-related tasks, have been studied in the past. However, despite the important role emotions play in human-machine interaction and in manual driving, little is known about how emotions influence drivers’ takeover performance. This study, therefore, examined the effects of emotional valence and arousal on drivers’ takeover timeliness and quality in conditionally automated driving. We conducted a driving simulation experiment with 32 participants. Movie clips were played for emotion induction. Participants with different levels of emotional valence and arousal were required to take over control from automated driving, and their takeover time and quality were analyzed. Results indicate that positive valence led to better takeover quality in the form of a smaller maximum resulting acceleration and a smaller maximum resulting jerk. However, high arousal did not yield an advantage in takeover time. This study contributes to the literature by demonstrating how emotional valence and arousal affect takeover performance. The benefits of positive emotions carry over from manual driving to conditionally automated driving while the benefits of arousal do not
Microwave photoresistance of a high-mobility two-dimensional electron gas in a triangular antidot lattice
The microwave (MW) photoresistance has been measured on a high-mobility
two-dimensional electron gas patterned with a shallow triangular antidot
lattice, where both the MW-induced resistance oscillations (MIRO) and
magnetoplasmon (MP) resonance are observed superposing on sharp commensurate
geometrical resonance (GR). Analysis shows that the MIRO, MP, and GR are
decoupled from each other in these experiments.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, paper accepted by PR
The Effect of Micro-oxygenation on the Phenolic Composition, Quality and Aerobic Wine-Spoilage Microorganisms of Different South African Red Wines
The effect of micro-oxygenation treatments on the composition of different South African red wines was evaluated. In some wines, micro-oxygenation led to an increase in colour density, with a corresponding change in colour, due to the formation of polymeric pigments. This increase also led to the red colour becoming more resistant to the bleaching effect of SO2. Micro-oxygenation also seemed to be more effective in increasing the colour densities of younger red wines than the older ones, although total red pigments were found to be highest in an older red wine that had received micro-oxygenation. Differences in the gelatine index were also observed over time. The micro-oxygenated and barrel-matured wines also had lower concentrations of catechin and the procyanidin B1, and showed a corresponding increase in polymeric pigment and polymeric phenols. Micro-oxygenation led to higher acetic acid bacteria counts, although no increase in volatile acidity was observed in these wines. A tasting panel preferredyounger red wines that had undergone micro-oxygenation. In an older red wine prolonged micro-oxygenation led to the wine becoming over-aged, with an increase in the barnyard/medicinal character, which corresponded with an increase in Brettanomyces counts. Micro-oxygenation can be used to increase the quality of young red wines, but further research is needed in this area
Charmless two-body B decays: A global analysis with QCD factorization
In this paper, we perform a global analysis of and decays
with the QCD factorization approach. It is encouraging to observe that the
predictions of QCD factorization are in good agreement with experiment. The
best fit is around . The penguin-to-tree ratio of decays is preferred to be larger than 0.3.
We also show the confidence levels for some interesting channels: , and , . For decays, they are expected to have smaller branching ratios with
more precise measurements.Comment: 20 pages, 4 figures, version to appear in Phys. Rev.
