“Just about Right”: Contrasting Views of Local Church Efforts in South Korea, China, and the Ukraine
This presentation highlights data from the 2017 Church Member Survey in South Korea, China, and Ukraine. The analysis of over 3,300 members reveals statistically significant differences in the levels of satisfaction concerning the local church’s efforts in evangelism, community involvement, and nurturing its members. This presentation provides results from a focus group study of pastors in North America. The data come from five focus groups with pastors about their stress reduction strategies and the barriers they encountered as they worked to reduce and cope with stressors. We conclude with intervention suggestions based on these findings
Becoming Gay and Lesbian: Identity Construction Among Seventh-day Adventist Homosexuals
This report explores identity construction among Seventh-day Adventist Homosexuals. The primary focus of this study looked at how peopled negotiated the conflicts between religious beliefs that prohibit homosexual behavior and their gay or lesbian sexual orientation. There were 37 participants who were interviewed for this study. The study found that through a series of processes and stages, gay and lesbian Adventists develop and use a variety of strategies that help them to accomplish identity construction.https://digitalcommons.andrews.edu/hrsa/1080/thumbnail.jp

Every family has occasional difficulties : The Stability of Family Dynamics Post Coming Out
This presentation highlights findings from a study of SDA parents whose LGBTQ+ child came out to them within the past 10 years. The findings revealed that parents noted few changes in family functioning post coming out. Many noted small improvements in family functioning and enduring family strength
