A-Lib 2.0: New Avatar Academic Libraries with Web 2.0 Applications

The web has seen the explosion of social networking tools, which are empowering ordinary people to connect, collaborate and contribute in a global collaboration. These social software applications are now the hottest properties of the Internet users. This article explains the how Web 2.0 tools could be applied in academic libraries to convert them as A-Lib 2.0 or Academic Library 2.0. The paper further includes a few cases from different libraries which have already adopted these new services. One recent survey found that 34.41% of total academic libraries in New York State are using Web 2.0 Services; the major ones include IM, Blogs, RSS, Book marking, Wiki, Social Networks, etc. Library 2.0 has changed the traditional way of thinking about the profession where library only engage in creating the content and services for user shifted to the side of user where librarian will enable user to create them for themselves

Research Productivity and Research Trends in the Library and Information Science Subject: A Study with reference to SCOPUS

The current study attempts to find out the research productivity and trends in Library and Information Science (LIS)subject in India during 1944 to 2017 by using bibliometric and content analysis methods. The publication data for the study was extracted from the Scopus database which consists of 1944 publications published by Indian authors.Thebibliographic data were analyzedby different bibliometric indicators which include most preferred journals, most prolific author, author collaboration trends, most prolific institutions and highly cited papers. The study reveals many important facets of LIS research in India. Gupta, B. M. the as recognized as the most prolific author with57papers; whereina context toa totalnumber of citations received Garg, K. C. topped in term of 406 citations. DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Technolgy was identified as the most preferred journal with highest publications followed by Scientometrics Journal. The content analysis of the publications shows three major clusters in LIS research includes “Use and User study,”“Bibliometric/Scientometrics” and “Digital Library Research.

Driving on the Green Road: Self-archiving Research for Open Access in India

The basic purpose of this paper is to review the relevance of Institutional Repository in the context of India and to prepare an account of the present state and future prospects of Institutional Repository in India. The paper is an outcome of a review of works in the area of Institutional Repository with specific reference to India. For this purpose, quite a good number of sources of information have been explored, analysed and assessed. The Study reveals that India has a huge potential for the growth of Institutional Repository. Hundreds of universities and thousands of colleges and other institutions including IITs, IIMs, IISc, IGNOU, CSIR and ICSSR centers provide a great scope for Institutional Repository in this country. DSpace is the most dominant software used by 37 (59%) institutional repositories followed by E-Print used by 18(29%) institutional repositories.
