Discutindo a educação ambiental no cotidiano escolar: desenvolvimento de projetos na escola formação inicial e continuada de professores

    Get PDF

Optimization of optical coupling conditions for LSO/LuYAP phoswich detector

    No full text
Phoswich detectors consisting of LSO and LuYAP for small animal PET have been developed to measure the depth of interaction (DOI) and to improve spatial resolution. The aim of this study was to characterize the optical coupling condition between phoswich crystal and photomultiplier tube (PMT) and between LSO and LuYAP to improve the performance of LSO/LuYAP phoswich detector. Light yields and DOI measurement errors of the phoswich detector with various optical coupling conditions were investigated by simulation and experiment. Additionally, the effects of inserted materials between LSO and LuYAP crystals with various ratios of coverage and surface conditions on PET performance were investigated.SCOPUS: cp.pinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

Experimental and simulation study of the MSGC+GEM detectors

    No full text
We report the results of systematic investigations on operating properties of MSGC+GEM detectors exposed to different sources of X-rays. The influence of the drift field on the detector response has been studied experimentally and by simulation. Charging-up effects depending on the drift field will be discussed.SCOPUS: cp.pinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

Automated calibration method for parallax corrected positioning algorithms in monolithic scintillators

    No full text
PET-detectors based on monolithic scintillator blocks have the potential to significantly improve the sensitivity. The impinging photon position of the 511 keV photons on the detector surface is derived from the scintillation light distribution measured by an APD array. To extract this position information, we used Neural Networks (NN). To this end, each detector module has to be position-calibrated by training neural networks. The neural networks can immediately yield a parallax insensitive incidence position of the photon when it was trained with sample data of photons impinging under a similar angle. Different procedures to obtain the calibration data in an automated way on a fully assembled PET system have been developed and validated on a simulator set-up. © 2006 IEEE.SCOPUS: cp.pinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

Track Reconstruction with Cosmic Ray Data at the Tracker Integration Facility

    No full text
The subsystems of the CMS silicon strip tracker were integrated and commissioned at the Tracker Integration Facility (TIF) in the period from November 2006 to July 2007. As part of the commissioning, large samples of cosmic ray data were recorded under various running conditions in the absence of a magnetic field. Cosmic rays detected by scintillation counters were used to trigger the readout of up to 15\,\% of the final silicon strip detector, and over 4.7~million events were recorded. This document describes the cosmic track reconstruction and presents results on the performance of track and hit reconstruction as from dedicated analyses

Transverse momentum and pseudorapidity distributions of charged hadrons in pp collisions at (s)\sqrt(s) = 0.9 and 2.36 TeV

    Get PDF
Measurements of inclusive charged-hadron transverse-momentum and pseudorapidity distributions are presented for proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 0.9 and 2.36 TeV. The data were collected with the CMS detector during the LHC commissioning in December 2009. For non-single-diffractive interactions, the average charged-hadron transverse momentum is measured to be 0.46 +/- 0.01 (stat.) +/- 0.01 (syst.) GeV/c at 0.9 TeV and 0.50 +/- 0.01 (stat.) +/- 0.01 (syst.) GeV/c at 2.36 TeV, for pseudorapidities between -2.4 and +2.4. At these energies, the measured pseudorapidity densities in the central region, dN(charged)/d(eta) for |eta| < 0.5, are 3.48 +/- 0.02 (stat.) +/- 0.13 (syst.) and 4.47 +/- 0.04 (stat.) +/- 0.16 (syst.), respectively. The results at 0.9 TeV are in agreement with previous measurements and confirm the expectation of near equal hadron production in p-pbar and pp collisions. The results at 2.36 TeV represent the highest-energy measurements at a particle collider to date

Measurement of the charge ratio of atmospheric muons with the CMS detector

    No full text
We present a measurement of the ratio of positive to negative muon fluxes from cosmic ray interactions in the atmosphere, using data collected by the CMS detector both at ground level and in the underground experimental cavern at the CERN LHC. Muons were detected in the momentum range from 5 GeV/ c to 1 TeV/ c . The surface flux ratio is measured to be 1.2766±0.0032(stat.)±0.0032(syst.) , independent of the muon momentum, below 100 GeV/ c . This is the most precise measurement to date. At higher momenta the data are consistent with an increase of the charge ratio, in agreement with cosmic ray shower models and compatible with previous measurements by deep-underground experiments. We present a measurement of the ratio of positive to negative muon fluxes from cosmic ray interactions in the atmosphere, using data collected by the CMS detector both at ground level and in the underground experimental cavern at the CERN LHC.
