Surface-Induced Phase Transition During Coalescence of Au Nanoparticles: A Molecular Dynamics Simulation Study

In this study, the melting and coalescence of Au nanoparticles were investigated using molecular dynamics simulation. The melting points of nanoparticles were calculated by studying the potential energy and Lindemann indices as a function of temperature. The simulations show that coalescence of two Au nanoparticles of the same size occurs at far lower temperatures than their corresponding melting temperature. For smaller nanoparticles, the difference between melting and coalescence temperature increases. Detailed analyses of the Lindemann indices and potential energy distribution across the nanoparticles show that the surface melting in nanoparticles begins at several hundred degrees below the melting point. This suggests that the coalescence is governed by the liquid-phase surface diffusion. Furthermore, the surface reduction during the coalescence accelerates its kinetics. It is found that for small enough particles and/or at elevated temperatures, the heat released due to the surface reduction result in a melting transition of the two attached nanoparticles.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures, 1 table, full length articl

Implication of Quadratic Divergences Cancellation in the Two Higgs Doublet Model

With the aim of exploring the Higgs sector of the Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM), we have chosen the exact and soft Z2Z_2 symmetry breaking versions of the 2HDM with non-zero vacuum expectation values for both Higgs doublets (Mixed Model). We consider two SM-like scenarios: with 125 GeV hh and 125 GeV HH. We have applied the condition for cancellation of quadratic divergences in the type II 2HDM in order to derive masses of the heavy scalars. Solutions of two relevant conditions were found in the considered SM-like scenarios. After applying the current LHC data for the observed 125 GeV Higgs boson, the precision electroweak data test and lower limits on the mass of H+H^+, the allowed region of parameters shrink strongly

Synchrophasor monitoring of single line outages via area angle and susceptance

The area angle is a scalar measure of power system area stress that responds to line outages within the area and is a combination of synchrophasor measurements of voltage angles around the border of the area. Both idealized and practical examples are given to show that the variation of the area angle for single line outages can be approximately related to changes in the overall susceptance of the area and the line outage severity.Comment: adjusted version accepted at North American Power Symposium (NAPS), Pullman WA USA, September 201

A phenomenological study on the production of Higgs bosons in the cSMCS model at the LHC

In the present work, we intend to predict the production rates of the Higgs bosons in the simplest extension of the Standard Model (SM) by a neutral complex singlet (cSMCS). This model has an additional source of CP violation and provides strong enough first-order electroweak phase transition to generate the baryon asymmetry of universe (BAU). The scalar spectrum of the cSMCS includes three neutral Higgs particles with the lightest one considered to be the 125 GeV Higgs boson found at LHC. The SM-like Higgs boson comes mostly from the SM-like SU(2) doublet, with a small correction from the singlet. To predict the production rates of the Higgs bosons, we use a conventional effective LO QCD framework and the unintegrated parton distribution functions (UPDF) of Kimber-Martin-Ryskin (KMR). We first compute the SM Higgs production cross-section and compare the results to the existing theoretical calculations from different frameworks as well as the experimental data from the CMS and ATLAS collaborations. It is shown that our framework is capable of producing sound predictions for these high-energy QCD events in the SM. Afterwards we present our predictions for the Higgs boson production in the cSMCS.Comment: Fitted by the published version, 1 figure and 2 benchmarks have been omitted, additional comparisons have been added and several misprints have been correcte
