Contextuality and Kochen-Specker colorings of integer vectors
This note exhibits a new set of 85 three-dimensional integer vectors that has
no Kochen-Specker coloring. These vectors represent rank-1 projection matrices
with entries in the rational subring . Consequences are
given for (non)contextuality in a purely algebraic sense for partial rings of
symmetric matrices over finitely generated rational subrings and -adic
integers.Comment: 8 page
Micro-Switches with Sputtered Au, AuPd, Au-on-AuPt, and AuPtCu Alloy Electric Contacts
This work is the first to report on a new analytic model for predicting micro-contact resistance and the design, fabrication, and testing of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) metal contact switches with sputtered bi-metallic (i.e. gold (Au)-on-Au-platinum (Pt), (Au-on-Au-(6%)Pt)), binary alloy (i.e. Au-palladium (Pd), (Au-(2%)Pd)), and tertiary alloy (i.e. Au-Pt-copper (Cu), (Au-(5%)Pt-(0.5%)Cu)) electric contacts. The micro-switches with bi-metallic and binary alloy contacts resulted in contact resistance between 1-2 /spl Omega/ and, when compared to micro-switches with sputtered Au electric contacts, exhibited a 3.3 and 2.6 times increase in switching lifetime, respectively. The tertiary alloy exhibited a 6.5 times increase in switch lifetime with contact resistance ranging from 0.2-1.8 /spl Omega/
Incorporating Annotator Uncertainty into Representations of Discourse Relations
Annotation of discourse relations is a known difficult task, especially for
non-expert annotators. In this paper, we investigate novice annotators'
uncertainty on the annotation of discourse relations on spoken conversational
data. We find that dialogue context (single turn, pair of turns within speaker,
and pair of turns across speakers) is a significant predictor of confidence
scores. We compute distributed representations of discourse relations from
co-occurrence statistics that incorporate information about confidence scores
and dialogue context. We perform a hierarchical clustering analysis using these
representations and show that weighting discourse relation representations with
information about confidence and dialogue context coherently models our
annotators' uncertainty about discourse relation labels
The distribution of discourse relations within and across turns in spontaneous conversation
Time pressure and topic negotiation may impose constraints on how people
leverage discourse relations (DRs) in spontaneous conversational contexts. In
this work, we adapt a system of DRs for written language to spontaneous
dialogue using crowdsourced annotations from novice annotators. We then test
whether discourse relations are used differently across several types of
multi-utterance contexts. We compare the patterns of DR annotation within and
across speakers and within and across turns. Ultimately, we find that different
discourse contexts produce distinct distributions of discourse relations, with
single-turn annotations creating the most uncertainty for annotators.
Additionally, we find that the discourse relation annotations are of sufficient
quality to predict from embeddings of discourse units.Comment: Proceedings of Computational Approaches to Discourse 2023, collocated

Leydig Cell Tumour and Mature Ovarian Teratoma: Rare Androgen-Secreting Ovarian Tumours in Postmenopausal Women
Androgen-secreting ovarian tumours are extremely rare accounting for <5% of all ovarian neoplasms. They are more frequent in postmenopausal women and should be suspected in the case of a rapid onset of androgenic symptoms. We report 4 cases of postmenopausal women who presented with signs of virilisation. All patients revealed increased serum levels of testosterone, normal dehydroepiandrosterone-sulfate and negative pelvic ultrasound for adnexal masses. An androgen-secreting ovarian tumour was suspected and all of them were submitted to bilateral oophorectomy. Histology confirmed the diagnosis of Leydig cell tumours in 3 patients and mature teratoma in 1. A successful response to surgery, which includes a decline in serum androgen levels and signs of hyperandrogenism, was observed in our patients. This case series demonstrates that androgen-secreting ovarian neoplasms may not be detectable by imaging studies, but should be considered in the differential diagnosis of all postmenopausal women with signs of hyperandrogenism.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
The epigenetic regulator ATF7ip inhibits Il2 expression, regulating Th17 responses.
T helper 17 cells (Th17) are critical for fighting infections at mucosal surfaces; however, they have also been found to contribute to the pathogenesis of multiple autoimmune diseases and have been targeted therapeutically. Due to the role of Th17 cells in autoimmune pathogenesis, it is important to understand the factors that control Th17 development. Here we identify the activating transcription factor 7 interacting protein (ATF7ip) as a critical regulator of Th17 differentiation. Mice with T cell-specific deletion of Atf7ip have impaired Th17 differentiation secondary to the aberrant overproduction of IL-2 with T cell receptor (TCR) stimulation and are resistant to colitis in vivo. ChIP-seq studies identified ATF7ip as an inhibitor of Il2 gene expression through the deposition of the repressive histone mark H3K9me3 in the Il2-Il21 intergenic region. These results demonstrate a new epigenetic pathway by which IL-2 production is constrained, and this may open up new avenues for modulating its production
A Sweeping Process Control Problem Subject To Mixed Constraints
In this study, we investigate optimal control problems that involve sweeping
processes with a drift term and mixed inequality constraints. Our goal is to
establish necessary optimality conditions for these problems. We address the
challenges that arise due to the combination of sweeping processes and
inequality mixed constraints in two contexts: regular and non-regular. This
requires working with different types of multipliers, such as finite positive
Radon measures for the sweeping term and integrable functions for regular mixed
constraints. For non-regular mixed constraints, the multipliers correspond to
purely finitely additive set functions.Comment: 6 page
Diabetes e Gravidez.
Screening in Anyon Gas
Anyon gas with interparticle (retarded) Coulomb interaction has been studied.
The resulting system is shown to be a collection of dressed anyons, with a
screening factor introduced in their spin. Close structural similarity with the
Chern-Simons construction of anyons has helped considerably in computing the
screening effect. Finally the present model is compared with the conventional
Chern-Simons construction.Comment: 10 pages Late
