ENABLING INTEROPERABILITY OF URBAN BUILDING ENERGY DATA BASED ON OGC API STANDARDS AND CITYGML 3D CITY MODELS
This paper presents an investigation into the interoperability of 3D building energy data management, delivery, processing, and visualization via web clients using Open Geospatial Consortium – Application Programming Interface (OGC API) standard-based data models and web interfaces. Specifically, the OGC API – 3D GeoVolumes enable access to 3D city model geometries and semantics on the web, the OGC API – Features support the 2D version of the same geospatial data, the OGC API – Processes are used for CityGML analytics and building energy computation with the SimStadt urban simulation software and the OGC SensorThings API is utilized to manage related spatiotemporal or time-series datasets. The efficacy of this approach has been demonstrated in the OGC Testbed 18 Innovation Program, which highlighted the capacity of OGC API web services to synchronize building energy data and computation results between client and server for the case study of Helsinki, Finland, and Montreal, Canada. The advantages of using OGC API services for 3D building energy data interoperability are discussed, and it is suggested that the use of OGC API be promoted to the general public as well as extended to other domains and on a larger scale in future research
Managing distributed heterogeneos information spaces
The shift from the production society to the information society is commonly agreed. Today's challenging task is the "management" of - partially already existing - data in terms of administration, evaluation, and examination. Administration embraces all technologies necessary for the storing, retrieving and migrating data within distributed information spaces. Furthermore, these sources do not necessarily belong to a common model, thus increasing the complexity of administering the information space. Working in distributed and heterogeneous information spaces raises the need for new techniques for relating pieces of data and for examining the data. Technologies like data mining must adapt these requirements and must be extended to fit to these environmental requirements. In order to present the concluding information to the end-user, knowledge management among other AI-techniques like fuzzy logic or rule-based systems are used top extract, evaluate and present the data sets requested by the end-user in an appropriate way
A virtual visit to the Collegiate Church St. Peter and Alexander, Aschaffenburg
Next year Germany celebrates the Romanesque year. For this celebration one of the oldest and best conserved churches in Germany, the collegiate church St. Peter and Alexander, will be virtually reconstructed in three epochs: Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque. The aim of the reconstruction is to mediate the history of the church and encourage people to visit the actual site. Because of the large amount of data of the virtual reconstruction, it is hard to publish the resultant models in the World Wide Web. Compression and simplification techniques are needed to reduce the complexity of the model. In this paper, we propose a feature based simplification method to generate a useful graphical abstraction of the model. At the end of the paper, we discuss some of our work in progress, which can be used to augment the real site with the virtual reconstruction during a tourist s visit of the church
TouriSTAR - ein mobiles AR System in einer urbanen Umgebung
Augmented Reality ist eine Technik, in der in das Sichtfeld eines Anwenders Informationen eingeblendet werden. So können einer Person beispielsweise Informationen, die in einem Geoinformationssystem gespeichert sind und die unmittelbare Umgebung betreffen, vor Ort angeboten werden. Hierbei muss es sich nicht nur um thematische Informationen handeln, sondern im Falle eines 3D-GIS, in dem Rekonstruktionen enthalten sind, können diese direkt in das Sichtfeld eingeblendet werden. Im Gegensatz zu Indoor-Systemen werden für den Einsatz in Gebieten, in denen eine Präparierung der Umwelt nicht möglich ist, besondere Anforderungen an die Systeme gestellt. Der Einsatz von verschiedenen Sensoren ist notwendig um das Tracking-Problem zu lösen. Außerdem wird hier die Visualisierung durch wechselnden Hintergrund besonders erschwert. Die folgende Abhandlung gibt einen Überblick über Probleme der Visualisierung sowie eine Einführung in bestehende Outdoor-Trackingsysteme und stellt das am Fraunhofer-IGD entwickelte System TouriSTAR vor, dessen Einsatzgebiet eine urbane Umgebung ist

This paper describes a research and development project for a novel technology, making the conveyance of cultural heritage during a historic sightseeing tour a unique experience. The cornerstones of this system are mobile augmented reality, including a hybrid tracking approach, intelligent queries to pose complex questions about geographical and historical knowledge, as well as a story engine to interactively run a digital story.
