Early penile metastasis from primary bladder cancer as the first systemic manifestation: a case report

    Get PDF
Metastatic involement of penis is an exceptionally rare condition. 77% of the metastases are originated from the pelvic region; prostate and bladder are the most frequent primary locations. Retrograde venous route, retrograde lymphatic route, arterial spread, direct extension, implantation and secondary to instrumentation are the mechanisms of metastasis. Approximately two thirds of all penile metastasis are detected at a mean time of 18 months after the detection of the primary tumor and the remaining one third is presented at the same time with primary tumor. Diagnosis is usually made by biopsy and also non invasive methods as MRI or colour-coded duplex ultrasonography. Treatment options in these patients are local excision, partial or complete penectomy, external beam radiation therapy and chemotheraphy. Despite these alternatives prognosis is usually poor

Objective:Assessment of our long-term hearing results in a patient, in whom ossicle chain reconstruction was established by using bone cement and conductive hearing loss was detected, was aimed. Methods:Files and surgery notes of twenty three patients admitted to the Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Clinic of Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital due to conductive hearing loss between January 2006 and January 2010, and in whom ossicle chain reconstruction with tympanoplasty and/ or mastoidectomy was performed, were investigated retrospectively. Those admittes at the eighteenth months and later were included in the study. The patients being included into the study were studied in terms of age, gender parameters, examination findings and audiological examinations in the preoperative period, surgery notes and examination findings in the post-operative period, and audiological examinations performed after the eighteenth month. Results:In 21 (100%) of the 21 patients, graft membrane was intact. It was observed that ABG values fell below 20 dB in seventeen patients (80.9%), below 15 dB in thirteen (61.9%) patients and below 10 dB in ten (47.6%) patients. In eighteen (85.7%) patients, improvement of more than 10 dB was ensured compared to pre-operative ABG.Conclusion:Since favorable results of bone cement used for the purpose of ossicular reconstruction were detected, this cheap and easily applicable material can be used safety in ossiculoplasties

In this study, the electro-optical and phase transition properties of 4-cyano-4'-n-pentylbiphenyl (5CB) liquid crystal doped by various polymers have been investigated. New liquid crystals were synthesized by doping 5CB liquid crystal with various dopants. Dielectric anisotropy properties of the liquid crystals were defined using Capacity-Voltage measurement method. It is seen that dielectric-anisotropy properties of the liquid crystals give different values for different dopant. Phase-transition properties of the samples were investigated with stable temperature method. It was seen that the dielectric properties of the liquid crystals increased with temperature also phase transition peak was observed. In addition, electro-optic phase transition properties of the liquid crystals alter with doping. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.WOS:0004681784000332-s2.0-8506541850

In this work, structural and optical properties of TiO2 metal oxide thin films were examined in two sections. In the first section of the work, undoped and Fe doped TiO2 thin films were produced on a p-type silicon substrate using the sol-gel method. In the second part, the optical and structural properties of the growth thin films were investigated. Structural properties of the films were investigated using X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and it was seen that Fe dopant alters the structure of the films. In the investigation of the optical properties, refractive index (n) and absorption coefficient (k) were assessed; it was illustrated that such optic properties closely depend on the Fe doping rate. Real (??1 ) with imaginary (??2) parts and a.c. electrical conductivity (? ) of dielectric constant were determined which was found to be a function of electrical permittivity and showed increasing trend with increasing voltage

In this study, undoped and Ag-doped ZnO thin films were grown on p-type Si substrates using Sol-Gel spin coating technique at room temperature. Optical properties, such as refractive index (n) and extinction coefficient (k) were determined using the optical data in terms of wavelength and photon energy, respectively. Depending on Ag doping concentration, some changes in optical properties thin films were observed. Also, the frequency and voltage dependence of some dielectric properties of thin films have been evaluated using the admittance spectroscopy method in the wide frequency range of 10 kHz to 1 MHz at room temperature. Experimental results show that the real (epsilon') and imaginary parts (epsilon '') of dielectric constants, loss tangent (tan delta), real (M') and imaginary (M '') parts of electric modulus were strong functions of frequency and applied bias voltage in the depletion region. The loss tangent versus applied bias voltage curves shows an increase with increasing frequencies and shifts to applied forward bias region giving a peak at about 3 V. M' and M '' values decreased with increasing frequency and shifts to reverse bias region. In addition, it was determined that a.c. electrical conductivity (sigma*) values of thin films increased with increasing voltage as a function of dielectric loss. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. Evaluation of sexual function in women with rheumatoid arthritis

    No full text
Purpose: To evaluate the link between rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and female sexual functioning. Material and Methods: A total of 32 women with RA and 20 healthy age matched controls were enrolled in this study. The participations are asked to complete Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), The Short form 36 (SF-36) Health Survey and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) questionnaires. Results: The groups were comparable in terms of demographic characteristics. The women with RA represented significantly worse sexual functioning in category of desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction domain and total FSFI score compared with healthy women (P = .0001, P = .0001, P = .0001, P = .0001, P = .022 and P = .0001, respectively). The mean BDI scores for the patients with RA were greater than control group (P = .036). Women with RA also had significantly lower quality of life (QoL) parameters: physical functioning, limitations due to physical health, pain, general health, vitality and limitations due to emotional problems compared with healthy women (P = .0001, P = .0001, P = .028, P = .002, P = .001 and P = .0001, respectively). Conclusion: The present study shows that a significant percent of patients with RA had sexual dysfunction and also deterioration in QoL
