Development for Ties Product with Ocean Images: Collaboration Project with Mokpo Marine Culture Tourism

    Get PDF
Mokpo is a harbor city where ocean cultural product development has been actively conducted as one of marine tourism specialized projects. The Dept. of Fashion and Clothing at Mokpo National University has researched and developed new fashion products with the ocean images every year with support from Mokpo\u27s marine tourism specialized projects. Program title is ‘Marine culture fashion product development’. The participants are 19 undergraduate students in the Dept. of Fashion and Clothing. Period is from March 02, 2017 until Dec. 22, 2017. Ocean Image Products refers to products containing marine images or motifs. In this project, the ocean images are replicated and dynamically represented in the necktie designs. There are three designs. The first is to capture movements of various organisms slowly flailing in the ocean. The second is to capture the moment when the waves reflect the sunshine and twinkle and move rhythmically. The third expresses various dynamic shapes and colors of fish scales on the necktie design. The work was done by computer graphics & digital printing, and these textile designs were applied to tie products. The Results show Irregular, rhythmical curves acts as a design highlight on the background color, which symbolize ocean image. The results drawn from this collaboration project would be a benefit for the local cultural tourism product development, which become the vitalization of the local economy. The employment of manpower would be required for the commercialization of the developed products, and employment of students who participated in the program would be expected

    Glaciers

Alaskan glaciers floating down to the mid-mountain and iceberg floating on the sea inspired this project. The design purpose was to express the organic force of flowing glaciers with their layers of cracked ice. The blue background with its structural shape contrasts with the silver trimming to emphasize the huge, cold, and sharp concepts of glaciers. The layered organza pieces express the mystique of glacier shelves and the transparent effect of ice. The irregular tucks signify the cracks, while the irregular hemline symbolizes the sharp shapes. The descending stream of stones with a gradation effect accentuates the flow and floating. Tie-dyeing created the blue gradation. The silver edges were completed by interlocking technique. Ten pieces of the 12â€Ã—80†rectangular with bias grain were layered using a draping technique, creating the dress shape and symbolizing layers of ice. This dress is best suited for high-profile event such as The Academy Awards

The purpose of this project was to create a dress that symbolized the expanse and rhythms of the sun. Especially, inspirational was the reflection of a crimson sun on the river. This dress can be for eveningwear, or special occasions such as resort attire

Collaboration of an Undergraduate Program in a Start-up Project with the Marine Culture Center in Mokpo- ‘Development of Ocean Image Products’ Program

    Get PDF
The department of Clothing and Textiles established ‘Research on Marine Culture Products’ in their undergraduate program for keeping pace with specialized, local ocean-related projects, and began to research and develop marine culture products representing local features for tourism. The start-up project, named ‘Blue Life’, is a program focusing on the development of marine culture products, which are sold in a gift shop and at tourist sights. The purpose of the collaboration with the MCC is to develop ocean image products, promote them, and inspire future business for both students and the MCC in the future

Bacterial community analysis of sediment seep in Kagoshima Bay, Japan

1902-1906Microorganisms in the deep-sea environments such as hydrothermal vent and cold-seep regions are primary energy producers and an important community in these ecosystems. We have used 454-Pyrosequencing and 16S rDNA clone library methods to determine the diversity of bacteria in the sediment of the seep regions around the vestimentiferan tubeworm habitat at Kagoshima Bay. Taxonomic composition from both libraries suggested that 454-Pyrosequencing methods can represent more diverse groups than the conventional clone library methods. Most abundant taxa with higher folds were Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes found in both methods. Through the 454-Pyrosequencing method, we were able to detect underrepresented taxa as well as non-detectable taxa. This analyses and comparison provide bacterial taxonomic group detection efficiency of both library types and emphasize the different uses and utilities for exploring the unknown microbial domain
