Scatterplots of physical function against brain volumetric parameters.

    No full text
<p>Note. The scatterplots are from the final models accounting for all listed covariates, with the regression line and 95% C.I. displayed. The β and p-value are for the physical function measure, while the R2 is for the overall model. The final scatterplot shows the association between change in physical function and NAWM volume (the only significant association with change in physical function), and for clarity of illustration, extreme outliers were removed; the inclusion/exclusion of outliers did not alter the regression results. Scatterplots for the Wave 2 physical function measures were similar and are not reported here. See <a href="http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0080386#pone.0080386.s005" target="_blank">Figures S1-S3</a> for scatterplots for the individual physical function measures (extreme outliers in the final scatterplots of these figures were retained for illustrative purposes, though their inclusion/exclusion did not alter the regression results).</p

Number (%) of subjects with incidental findings (IF), WMH according to visual rating by Fazekas score and atrophy against a visual population normal for age template. Fazekas total score = sum of deep and periventricular WMH scores.

<p>Bold indicates WMH scores consistent with moderate to severe WMH and atrophy at or above the upper limit of normal for age. The scale indicates a) the summed deep (0–3) and periventricular (0–3) Fazekas scores = total WMH score of 0–6, and b) the atrophy scores where 1 = <25th centile, 2 = 25–50th centile, 3 = 50–75th centile, 4 = 75–95th centile, 5 = just above 95th centile and 6 = considerably above the 95th centile for age.</p

<p>Note. SD = standard deviation, MMSE = Mini-Mental State Exam (maximum score of 30). These data are based on the sample of participants with successfully segmented hippocampal volumes, once those participants with reported dementia, or with MMSE scores ≤24 (or missing) around the time of MRI, were removed. </p
