Absence of Klein's paradox for massive bosons coupled by nonminimal vector interactions
A few properties of the nonminimal vector interactions in the
Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau theory are revised. In particular, it is shown that the
space component of the nonminimal vector interaction plays a peremptory role
for confining bosons whereas its time component contributes to the leakage.
Scattering in a square step potential with proper boundary conditions is used
to show that Klein's paradox does not manifest in the case of a nonminimal
vector coupling
High Resolution Ionization of Ultracold Neutral Plasmas
Collective effects, such as waves and instabilities, are integral to our
understanding of most plasma phenomena. We have been able to study these in
ultracold neutral plasmas by shaping the initial density distribution through
spatial modulation of the ionizing laser intensity. We describe a relay imaging
system for the photoionization beam that allows us to create higher resolution
features and its application to extend the observation of ion acoustic waves to
shorter wavelengths. We also describe the formation of sculpted density
profiles to create fast expansion of plasma into vacuum and streaming plasmas
Shades of red and blue: Political ideology and sustainable development
We study the effect of political ideology on sustainable development, measured as investment in genuine wealth, in a dynamic panel of 79 countries between 1981 and 2013. We find that a switch from a left-wing or centrist government to a right-wing government has a robust positive and statistically significant effect on investment in genuine wealth. We find no evidence of opportunistic cycles in these investments
An effective singular oscillator for Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau particles with a nonminimal vector coupling: a two-fold degeneracy
Scalar and vector bosons in the background of one-dimensional nonminimal
vector linear plus inversely linear potentials are explored in a unified way in
the context of the Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau theory. The problem is mapped into a
Sturm-Liouville problem with an effective singular oscillator. With boundary
conditions emerging from the problem, exact bound-state solutions in the spin-0
sector are found in closed form and it is shown that the spectrum exhibits
degeneracy. It is shown that, depending on the potential parameters, there may
or may not exist bound-state solutions in the spin-1 sector.Comment: 1 figure. arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with

An alternative approach for the dynamics of polarons in one dimension
We developed a new method based on functional integration to treat the
dynamics of polarons in one-dimensional systems. We treat the acoustical and
the optical case in an unified manner, showing their differences and
similarities. The mobility and diffusion coefficients are calculated in the
Markovian approximation in the strong coupling limit.Comment: 57 page
