Status of the ADMX and ADMX-HF experiments

The Axion Dark Matter eXperiment (ADMX) is in the midst of an upgrade to reduce its system noise temperature. ADMX-HF (High Frequency) is a second platform specifically designed for higher mass axions and will serve as an innovation test-bed. Both will be commissioning in 2013 and taking data shortly thereafter. The principle of the experiment, current experimental limits and the status of the ADMX/ADMX-HF program will be described. R&D on hybrid superconducting cavities will be discussed as one example of an innovation to greatly enhance sensitivity.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, Contribution to the 8th Patras Workshop on Axions, WIMPs and WISPs, Chicago, IL, USA, 201

The Very High Energy source catalog at the ASI Science Data Center

The increasing number of Very High Energy (VHE) sources discovered by the current generation of Cherenkov telescopes made particularly relevant the creation of a dedicated source catalogs as well as the cross-correlation of VHE and lower energy bands data in a multi-wavelength framework. The "TeGeV Catalog" hosted at the ASI Science Data Center (ASDC) is a catalog of VHE sources detected by ground-based Cherenkov detectors. The TeGeVcat collects all the relevant information publicly available about the observed GeV/TeV sources. The catalog contains also information about public light curves while the available spectral data are included in the ASDC SED Builder tool directly accessible from the TeGeV catalog web page. In this contribution we will report a comprehensive description of the catalog and the related tools.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures - Proceeding of the 34th International Cosmic Ray Conferenc

Territorio y poder.

Pseudoconvexity on a closed convex set: an application to a wide class of generalized fractional functions

The issue of the pseudoconvexity of a function on a closed set is addressed. It is proved that if a function has no critical points on the boundary of a convex set, then the pseudoconvexity on the interior guarantees the pseudoconvexity on the closure of the set. This result holds even when the boundary of the set contains line segments, and it is used to characterize the pseudoconvexity, on the nonnegative orthant, of a wide class of generalized fractional functions, namely the sum between a linear one and a ratio which has an affine function as numerator and, as denominator, the p-th power of an affine function. The relationship between quasiconvexity and pseudoconvexity is also investigated

A search for signatures of dark matter in the AMS-01 electron and antiproton spectrum

Thesis (Ph. D.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Physics, 2006.Includes bibliographical references (p. 88-93).If dark matter consists of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs), such as the supersymmetric neutralino, various theories predict that their annihilation in the galaxy can give rise to anomalous features in the otherwise smooth spectra of charged cosmic rays. Up to now searches for these spectral anomalies have focused largely on antiparticles (p, e+) due to their lower astrophysical backgrounds. In this thesis we present results of a search for dark matter annihilation in the charge Z = -1 spectrum of AMS-01 (essentially electrons and antiprotons). To avoid model dependent complications we assume that the primary annihilation channel is through W+W- production. We use the galactic propagation software GALPROP to determine the dark matter spectra at Earth from a smooth isothermal source. Fits to the data did not reveal any contribution from dark matter and limits were placed on the rate of W+W- production in the galaxy and on the corresponding cross-section for WIMP annihilation through the W+W- channel (given a smooth isothermal distribution).by Gianpaolo Patrick Carosi.Ph.D
