The influence of the characterisation factors of the european ports on operational performance: conceptual model testing
The study analyses the relationships between the characterisation
factors and the operational performance of ports. The research model, based on
performance theory, suggests the existence of a set of relationships between
several factors that characterise ports, and argues that they influence the portsâ
operational performance. Drawing on path analysis methodology supported by
structural equation modelling (SEM), the results obtained from a sample of 43
of the largest European ports indicate that relationships between location,
specialisation, size, shipping services and infrastructure, and operational
performance do exist. The study also identifies the independent and mediating
variables.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
The relationship between âposition-portâ, âhardportâ and âsoft-portâ characteristics and port performance: conceptual models
This research study attempts to conceptualize models based on the relationship
between characterization factors and port performance. By selecting a universe of the
230 largest European ports in terms of cargo throughput, 43 valid answers were
obtained. Factor analysis and KâW (KruskalâWallis) tests were carried out taking as
a reference the port performance theory. Findings reveal the existence of a relationship
between port performance and its characterization factors, delving into the development
of conceptualized models that contribute to deepen the knowledge of port
competition structure and dynamics within Europe.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
The influence of factors characterizing the performance of ports, measured by operational, financial and efficiency indicators
The purpose of this study is to analyze the performance of a port through its characterizing factors
and understand their importance. Both Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and statistics of factor analysis were
used, as well as linear regression. Based on a sample of 43 European ports, the results of this study indicate the existence of a relationship between performance and several variables that characterize the port. Additionally, they also confirm the impact of location, governance, size, infrastructure, specialization, logistic integration and maritime services in the ports operational and financial performance and efficiency.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
The container terminal characteristics and customerâs satisfaction
This paper attempts to evaluate and understand the port sector senior managersâ perception relative to the influence of the port characteristics and specific container terminals in customersâ satisfaction. The SEM (Structural Equation Modelling) methodology is used to confirm the investigation model. The sample is composed by 151 valid responses, each one of them regarding a specific terminal of a set of 12 Portuguese and Spanish container terminals. The results confirm the influence of the port and container terminal characteristics in customerâs satisfaction.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
The influence of factors characterizing the performance of ports, measured by operational, financial and efficiency indicators
This paper aims to study the performance of ports by characterization factors and understand its importance. The methods used are data envelopment analysis (DEA), factor analysis and linear regression. The sample consists of 43 European ports. The results indicate the existence of a relationship between performance and several variables that characterize the port and confirm the impact of location, governance, size, infrastructure, port specialisation, logistics integration and maritime services in the operational and financial performance and efficiency of ports .Portos, desempenho, factores de caracterização
Global mindset and the internationalization of small firms: The importance of the characteristics of entrepreneurs
Despite being a relatively new concept, the importance of the global
mindset is already well-documented. So far research has primarily focused on
multinational companies and therefore the operationalization of the concept is still
a work in progress. Recognizing the importance of entrepreneurs in small companies,
yet mindful of the gaps that exist, this paper addresses the factors that constitute the
global mindset and their influence on the internationalization of small Portuguese
companies. Using information-processing theory through a quantitative, surveybased
study and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), the results show the importance
of the characteristics of both entrepreneurs and firms in explaining the global
mindset, and confirm the impact they have on internationalization behavior. The
entrepreneurâs level of education, their satisfaction with company performance in the
domestic market and the potential for growth in the domestic market all affect the
global mindset model. The conclusions are useful for entrepreneurs and national
authorities aiming to successfully implement internationalization practices, given the
role of the global mindset in exploring global business opportunities and in the global
success of companies. Replication of the research in different contexts is essential for
the wider generalization of the results.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Government policies and Portuguese port governance in the period from 2005 to 2015
This research focuses on the effect of Portuguese government policies in portmanagement, port strategy and port
performance in the period from 2005 to 2015.With the structural equation modeling, we analyzed a sample of
172 observations. Government policies influence the port sector differently. The policies adopted during the period
under study produced different effects, especially the national planning policies for investments as well as
the central control policy, implemented tomake operations and port labormore productive. Themain contribution
of this paper resides in understanding that it is essential to ensure sustainability conditions for the national
port system in an increasingly globalized market where the trend is to be less dependent on the government

A influĂȘncia dos factores de caracterização dos portos no desempenho, medido por indicadores operacionais, financeiros e de eficiĂȘncia

The nexus between port governance and performance
The diversity of port governance models in the world, sometimes even
within the same country, has aroused the interest of researchers. This study
is based on contingency theory to support the port governance model. The
purpose is to understand the port governance model and the relation with
port performance. There are three objectives: to analyze the port governance
mechanisms; to analyze the port performance factors; and to understand
the influence of the governance model mechanisms on port
performance. A factorial analysis was used to determine the main components,
and the methodology of the structural equation model was used to
analyze a survey sample of 105 valid responses from specialists and managers
of port userâs companies that operate in the main Portuguese ports.
This study demonstrates that port governancemodel influences directly the
port performance. The main contribution of this paper to the literature is
providing a set of factors that public managers may decide when changing
the characteristics of the port governance models to ensure their performance.
It was also observed the approximation of the port expert vision of
port governance with models described in literature.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
[Port community systems (PCS) and port performance]
