    The Secessionist Movement and the Peace Process in the Philippines and Indonesia: The Case of Mindanao and Aceh

    In this paper, the possibilities for creating a peaceful society amidst an on-going conflict between the state and ethno-based secessionist movement are explored. The cases of the Philippines and Indonesia, specifically the Moros and Acehnese respectively, are discussed and analyzed against the backdrop of identity politics, modalities of peace building and conflict resolution, and nation-state building. Towards the end of the paper, lessons from the peace process engaged by both the state and secessionist movement are derived on the wish that they may serve as guideposts in future peace and conflict mitigation endeavors

    We give a precise numerical solution for decorated Ising models on the simple cubic lattice which show ferromagnetism, compensation points, and reentrant behaviour. The models, consisting of S=12S={1\over 2} spins on a simple cubic lattice, and decorating S=1 or S=3/2S=3/2 spins on the bonds, can be mapped exactly onto the normal spin-1/2 Ising model, whose properties are well known.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figure

    Excited states of beryllium atom from explicitly correlated wave functions

    A study of the first excited states of beryllium atom starting from explicitly correlated wave functions is carried out. Several properties are obtained and discussed focusing on the analysis of the Hund's rules in terms of the single--particle and electron pair intracule and extracule densities. A systematic study of the differences on the electronic distributions of the singlet and triplet states is carried out. The trial wave function used to describe the different bound states consists of a generalized Jastrow-type correlation factor times a configuration interaction model wave function. This model wave function has been fixed by using a generalization of the optimized effective potential method to deal with multiconfiguration wave functions. The optimization of the wave function and the calculation of the different quantities is carried out by means of the Variational Monte Carlo method.Comment: 28 pages, 6 figure
