Systematics of Anti magnetic rotation in even-even Cd isotopes
The lifetimes for the high spin levels of the yrast band of Cd has
been measured. The estimated B(E2) values decrease with increase in angular
momentum. This is the characteristic of Anti magnetic rotation as reported in
Cd. However, alignment behavior of Cd is completely
different from its even-even neighbors. A model based on classical particle
plus rotor has been used to explore the underlying systematics and develop a
self consistent picture for the observed behavior of these isotopes.Comment: 18 pages including 6 figures. Accepted to be published in PLB, with

Evaluating the Transferability and Adversarial Discrimination of Convolutional Neural Networks for Threat Object Detection and Classification within X-Ray Security Imagery
X-ray imagery security screening is essential to maintaining transport security against a varying profile of threat or prohibited items. Particular interest lies in the automatic detection and classification of weapons such as firearms and knives within complex and cluttered X-ray security imagery. Here, we address this problem by exploring various end-to-end object detection Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) architectures. We evaluate several leading variants spanning the Faster R-CNN, Mask R-CNN, and RetinaNet architectures to explore the transferability of such models between varying X-ray scanners with differing imaging geometries, image resolutions and material colour profiles. Whilst the limited availability of X-ray threat imagery can pose a challenge, we employ a transfer learning approach to evaluate whether such inter-scanner generalisation may exist over a multiple class detection problem. Overall, we achieve maximal detection performance using a Faster R-CNN architecture with a ResNet101 classification network, obtaining 0.88 and 0.86 of mean Average Precision (mAP) for a three-class and two class item from varying X-ray imaging sources. Our results exhibit a remarkable degree of generalisability in terms of cross-scanner performance (mAP: 0.87, firearm detection: 0.94 AP). In addition, we examine the inherent adversarial discriminative capability of such networks using a specifically generated adversarial dataset for firearms detection - with a variable low false positive, as low as 5%, this shows both the challenge and promise of such threat detection within X-ray security imagery
Small Quadrupole Deformation for the Dipole Bands in 112In
High spin states in In were investigated using Mo(O,
p3n) reaction at 80 MeV. The excited level have been observed up to 5.6 MeV
excitation energy and spin 20 with the level scheme showing three
dipole bands. The polarization and lifetime measurements were carried out for
the dipole bands. Tilted axis cranking model calculations were performed for
different quasi-particle configurations of this doubly odd nucleus. Comparison
of the calculations of the model with the B(M1) transition strengths of the
positive and negative parity bands firmly established their configurations.Comment: 10 pages, 11 figures, 2 table
Studies on the cleaning potentialities of non-coking coal by washability study
Coking coal is the primary prerequisite source for the production of iron and steel through blast furnace route. Efforts have been made to correct the imbalance between need and availability of coking coal. This can be done by blending coking coal with either non-coking coal or semi-coking coal. To search for the above possibility systematic investigation of coals is required. Before going for any beneficiation studies for upgrading the coal (to reduce the ash level), washability study of the sample is required. The washability study of coals is performed through sink-float test in laboratory. Sink-float tests are widely used for coal analysis, to predict the theoretical yield and ash contents of clean coal obtainable in an ideal gravity concentrator at different specific gravities. It is a common practice to plot a series of ‘washability curves’, from the sink-float data of a coal sample in order to generate many useful information relating to its amenability for producing clean coal of desired quality. In this article a systematic investigation of washability study of non-coking coal from eastern region is studied through laboratory sink float test. From the washability study it has been found that 17% to 20% ash level can be achieved with a yield of ~30 to 33%%. Based on the data a suitable beneficiation scheme can be suggested
Radijus utjecaja oborine nad područjem monsuna u Indiji
The paper describes an analysis of rain gauge data to determine an appropriate radius of influence to use for the objective analysis of rainfall over Indian monsoon region. The correlation co-efficient (CC) of rainfall between rain gauges in discrete distance intervals is computed, and the distance at which CC falls to 0.3 is chosen as the radius of rainfall influence. The method is applied for the monthly mean rainfall observations for June, July and August of Indian summer monsoon 2001. The method is also tested for a few case studies in relation to varying geographical and synoptic situations. The study shows that the radius of influence of rainfall over Indian region, in general, is around 200 km, but it has certain day to day variations depending on the prevailing synoptic conditions. The finding of the study is expected to be very useful for the objective analysis of rainfall over Indian region.
