    Get PDF
This paper introduces a new rectangular slot antenna structure based on a simple rectangular shape with two symmetrical rectangular slots on the radiated element. The aim of this work is to design an antenna and enhance it to function in the band (2.45 GHz and 5.8 GHz). We formulated the dimensions of the antenna using the transmission line model of the analytical methods and then we optimized these parameters using the CST Microwave Studio simulator. We made changes to two important parameters in our design: the position and width of the slots when the other parameters are kept constant. The resulting antenna provides good adaptation, high gain that achieves 5.96 dBi at 2.45 GHz and 6.491 dBi at 5.8 GHz, good return loss values of -49.859 dB and -34.303 dB for the lower and upper operating frequencies respectively. For radio frequency identification (RFID) implementations, the proposed antenna is ideal, and its main advantage is that it has high gain and is simple to design and fabricate

International audienceNowadays the WSN (Wireless Sensor Network) implemented in different domains such as environment, medical, military, etc. At the same time, the WSN has some limitations, among them and the major one is the energy resource and limitation in the battery's lifetime due to the fact of the small size of the sensor node. The clustering is the most efficient method for increasing the network's lifetime which most routing protocols based on it and LEACH (Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) are the first energy-efficient clustering hierarchical routing protocol. This clustering programs choose randomly the CH (Cluster Head) and just if the sensor node has a few energy. Thus in LEACH transmission, every CH sends data immediately to the BS (Base Station), so they consume more energy that decreases the network lifetime. In this paper, we propose a new approach based on LEACH protocol that purpose to extend the network's lifetime by balancing the energy of sensor nodes. Our model allows to chose CHs according to the current energy. Thus, data archives the BS by multi-hop method

    Get PDF
This paper presents a new rectifier design for radio frequency (RF) energy harvesting by adopting a particular circuit topology to achieve two objectives at the same time. First, work with modulated input signal sources instead of only continuous waveform (CW) signals. Second, operate with a wide input power range using the Wilkinson power divider (WPD) and two different rectifier diodes (HSMS2852 and SMS7630) instead of using active components. According to the comparison with dual-band rectifiers presented in the literature, the designed rectifier is a high-efficiency rectifier for wide RF power input ranges. A peak of 67.041% and 49.089% was reached for 2.45 and 5.8 GHz, respectively, for CW as the input signal. An efficiency of 72.325% and 45.935% is obtained with a 16 QAM modulated input signal for the operating frequencies, respectively, 69.979% and 54.579% for 8PSK. The results obtained demonstrate that energy recovery systems can use modulated signals. Therefore, the use of a modulated signal over a CW signal may have additional benefits

Unloaded quality factor optimization of substrate integrated waveguide resonator using genetic algorithm

    Get PDF
The main objective purpose of this paper is to study the enhancement techniques of the unloaded quality factor of substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) resonator, given that the quality of filters depends first on the quality of the resonators that compose it. Performance enhancement is achieved by employing a MATLAB-based genetic algorithm to optimize the geometrical parameters of the SIW resonator by iterative convergence to the target frequency (10 GHz frequency). On the other hand, the Ansys HFSS tool is used to model and optimize the SIW resonator with the suitable transition and plot the S-parameters for a frequency sweep range to validate its property. The results obtained allow increasing the unloaded Q-factor to be more than 1609 and reducing not only insertion and return losses but also reducing the size of the resonator. The proposed SIW resonator with its small size and low loss is directly useful for microwave and millimeter-wave applications

Bio-inspired intelligence for minimizing losses in substrate integrated waveguide

This paper presents a study of various types of losses in substrate-integrated waveguides (SIW) using a genetic algorithm. Three main types of losses are considered and examined separately: conductor loss, dielectric loss, and radiation loss. Furthermore, the current analysis allows for a physical understanding of the loss impacts as well as the creation of design guidelines to reduce losses at 10 GHz frequency while keeping the miniaturized size of the SIW. Validation results obtained using the software Ansys HFSS, verify that the attenuation constant of the SIW can be significantly reduced to  0.4 dB/m, the Insertion loss S21 to -0.2 dB and the return loss to -38 dB if the geometric parameters are chosen properly. This study enables us to identify the source of losses in a SIW and, as a result, eliminate any type of dispersion. That demonstrates the usability of SIW technologies in the design of microwave circuits used in Internet of things applications

Improved LEACH protocol for increasing the lifetime of WSNs

Recently, wireless sensor network (WSN) is taking a high place in several applications: military, industry, and environment. The importance of WSNs in current applications makes the WSNs the most developed technology at the research level and especially in the field of communication and computing. However, WSN’s performance deals with a number of challenges. Energy consumption is the most considerable for many researchers because nodes use energy to collect, treat, and send data, but they have restricted energy. For this reason, numerous efficient energy routing protocols have been developed to save the consumption of power. Low energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) is considered as the most attractive one in WSNs. In the present document, we evaluate the LEACH approach effectiveness in the cluster-head (CH) choosing and in data transmission, then we propose an enhanced protocol. The proposed algorithm aims to improve energy consumption and prolong the lifetime of WSN through selecting CHs depending on the remaining power, balancing the number of nodes in clusters, determining abandoned nodes in order to send their data to the sink. Then CHs choose the optimal path to achieve the sink. Simulation results exhibit that the enhanced method can decrease the consumption of energy and prolong the life-cycle of the network

An enhanced energy-efficient routing protocol for wireless sensor network

Recent few years, Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) has been an increasingly important technology that has been applied in almost all domains, even in complex environments where human activity is impossible. In WSN, various factors are impacted energy consumption, such as communication protocols, packet data transmission, and limited battery. So, the lifespan of the WSNs is limited. In this context, energy efficiency is the factor most attracted by many researchers. In this paper, we proposed a new improved LEACH routing protocol. This proposed protocol based on the current energy to select cluster-heads, and it uses a root cluster-head with more current energy and low distance to the sink to gather all data, then sends it to the sink. The simulation results in MATLAB confirmed that the proposed algorithm performed better than the conventional LEACH protocol, and increased the network lifetime in WSN

A 2.45/5.8 GHz high-efficiency dual-band rectifier for low radio frequency input power

    Get PDF
This article proposes a concurrent rectifier for radio frequency (RF) energy harvesting from the popular ambient RF sources wireless fidelity (WiFi) 2.45 and 5.8 GHz bands. A voltage doubler-based converter circuit with the Schottky SMS7630 diode is used, this chosen diode has shown good results for low power levels. To ameliorate the resulting circuit, we used an interdigital capacitor (IDC) instead of a lumped component; and then we added a filter to reject the 3rd harmonics of each operating frequency. A dual-band impedance transformer with a direct current (DC) block function is used and optimized at low input power points for more harvested DC power. The final circuit was, therefore, more efficient and more reliable. The maximum conversion efficiencies obtained from the resulting circuit are about 60.321% for 2.45 GHz and 47.175% for 5.8 GHz at 2 dBm of input power. Compared to other previous rectifiers presented in the literature, our proposed circuit presents high efficiencies at low power levels and at these operating frequencies

Hybrid multiple watermarking technique for securing medical images of modalities MRI, CT scan, and X-ray

    Get PDF
In order to contribute to the security of sharing and transferring medical images, we had presented a multiple watermarking technique for multiple protections; it was based on the combination of three transformations: the discrete wavelet transform (DWT), the fast Walsh-Hadamard transform (FWHT) and, the singular value decomposition (SVD). In this paper, three watermark images of sizes 512x 512 were inserted into a single medical image of various modalities such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), and X-Radiation (X-ray). After applying DWT up to the third level on the original image, the high-resolution sub-bands were being selected subsequently to apply FWHT and then SVD. The singular values of the three watermark images were inserted into the singular values of the cover medical image. The experimental results showed the effectiveness of the proposed method in terms of quality and robustness compared to other reported techniques cited in the literature

    Get PDF
This paper presents the performance analysis of the direction of arrival estimation algorithms such as Estimation of Signal Parameters via Rotational Invariance Technique (ESPRIT), Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC), Weighted Subspace Fitting (WSF), The Minimum Variance Distortionless Response (MVDR or capon) and beamspace. These algorithms are necessary to overcome the problem of detecting the arrival angles of the received signals in wireless communication. Therefore, these algorithms are evaluated and compared according to several constraints required in smart antenna system parameters, as the number of array elements, number of samples (snapshots), and number of the received signals. The main purpose of this study is to obtain the best estimation of the direction of arrival, which can be perfectly implemented in a smart antenna system. In this context, the ROOT-Weighted Subspace Fitting algorithm provides the most accurate detection of arrival angles in each of the proposed scenarios
