    Warped Black Holes in Lower-Spin Gravity

    We provide a simple holographic description for a warped conformal field theory (WCFT) at finite temperature. To this end we study the counterpart of warped anti-de Sitter black holes in three dimensions using a lower-spin sl(2,R)⊕u(1)\mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{R})\oplus\mathfrak{u}(1) Chern-Simons theory proposed by Hofman and Rollier. We determine the asymptotic symmetries, thermal entropy and holographic entanglement entropy and show that all these quantities are in perfect agreement with the expectations from the dual WCFT perspective.     Phase Diagram of Planar Matrix Quantum Mechanics, Tensor, and Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev Models

    We compute the phase diagram of a U(N)2×O(D)\text{U}(N)^{2}\times\text{O}(D) invariant fermionic planar matrix quantum mechanics [equivalently tensor or complex Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) models] in the new large DD limit, dominated by melonic graphs. The Schwinger-Dyson equations can have two solutions describing either a high entropy, SYK black-hole-like phase, or a low entropy one with trivial IR behavior. In the strongly coupled region of the mass-temperature plane, there is a line of first order phase transitions between the high and low entropy phases. This line terminates at a new critical point which we study numerically in detail. The critical exponents are nonmean field and differ on the two sides of the transition. We also study purely bosonic unstable and stable melonic models. The former has a line of Kazakov critical points beyond which the Schwinger-Dyson equations do not have a consistent solution. Moreover, in both models the would-be SYK-like solution of the IR limit of the equations does not exist in the full theory.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures, minor changes in v

    Covariant Noether Charge for Higher Dimensional Chern-Simons Terms

    We construct a manifestly covariant differential Noether charge for theories with Chern-Simons terms in higher dimensional spacetimes. This is in contrast to Tachikawa's extension of the standard Lee-Iyer-Wald formalism which results in a non-covariant differential Noether charge for Chern-Simons terms.     Higher-Derivative Corrections to the Asymptotic Virasoro Symmetry of 4d Extremal Black Holes

    We study the asymptotic Virasoro symmetry which acts on the near-horizon region of extremal four-dimensional black hole solutions of gravity theories with higher-derivative corrections, following the recently proposed Kerr/CFT correspondence. We demonstrate that its central charge correctly reproduces the entropy formula of Iyer-Wald, once the boundary terms in the symplectic structure are carefully chosen.Comment: 36 page

    A new look at instantons and large-N limit

    We analyze instantons in the very strongly coupled large-NN limit (N→∞N\to\infty with g2g^2 fixed) of large-NN gauge theories, where the effect of the instantons remains finite. By using the exact partition function of four-dimensional N=2∗{\cal N}=2^* gauge theories as a concrete example, we demonstrate that each instanton sector in the very strongly coupled large-NN limit is related to the one in the 't Hooft limit (N→∞N\to\infty with g2Ng^2N fixed) through a simple analytic continuation. Furthermore we show the equivalence between the instanton partition functions of a pair of large-NN gauge theories related by an orbifold projection. This can open up a new way to analyze the partition functions of low/non-supersymmetric theories. We also discuss implication of our result to gauge/gravity dualities for M-theory as well as a possible application to large-NN QCD.Comment: 10 page
