Manganese that can be found ubiquitously in the air, soil, and water is an essential nutrient for humans and animals. Inadequate intake or over exposure can cause adverse health effects. Although manganese is an essential nutrient at low doses, chronic exposure to high doses may be harmful. Regardless, the nervous system has been determined to be the primary target organ with neurological effects generally observed. The objective of the study is to assess the health risk of manganese exposure from the well drinking water intake. This study was done in Final Disposal Site Rawakucing area and outside of this area. The number of subjects were 114 who lived inside the site and 177 who lived outside the area, respectively. Study design is cross-sectional with hypotheses testing. The result showed that the average manganese concentration was 4.3 mg/l (SD=2.8873), 0.300 mg/l (SD=0.1888) respectively. The result was significant different statistically (p<0.05) for manganese concentration from two study area. The average RQ showed 0.2347 (SD=0.5095) for RQ in Disposal Site Area and 0.2955 (SD=0.2465) for RQ outside Disposal Site Area. The result was statistically significantly different (p<0.05) for RQ value, with OR=8.109 (95% CI = 2.668-24.650)

Analysis of water quality and skin disorder complaint from water users of Siak river in Duku River Port, Tanjung Rhu village, Limapuluh sub-district Pekanbaru City in 2012. Siak river is one of the biggest river in Pekanbaru City and be a source of water by the society in Tanjung Rhu village. The reduction of water quality in Siak river was caused by the effect of waste disposal from industries activity and domestic waste along the river. The use of polluted water may cause health problem for water users, one of the health problem is related to skin disorder. The aim of this study were to analysis of water quality and skin disorder complaint from water users of Siak river in Duku River Port, Tanjung Rhu village, Limapuluh sub-district Pekanbaru City in 2012. Type of this research was descriptive with the population for 470 persons and the number of sample was 82 persons. Sample taking techniques was done with choice in non-random sampling, namely accidental sampling. The results of the research conducted in the were Siak River by physical parameters, chemistry, and microbiology, show that there three parameters that exceed the water quality standard based on PP. 82 Year 2001 on the Management Quality of Water and Water Pollution Control, the parameters TSS, BOD and COD. The study of 82 respondents, there were 18 respondents (22%) who had complaints of skin disorders. Based on these results, it can be suggested to the government to control the disposal of waste from industries in accordance with applicable regulations, and conduct counseling to communities for do not use the Siak River water until the quality of water meets the health requirements

Background: The use of toluene in printing dominates the use of metal chemicals. Toluene is used in 75% of printing work activities. Accumulation of toluene concentrations in printing can cause health problems to workers. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of toluene exposure on central nervous system disorders in printing industry workers.Subjects and Method: This study was cross-sectional in the printing industry in Medan, North Sumatra. The population consists of 50 people with consecutive sampling technique sampling. Data on subjective symptoms of central nervous system disorders were measured by the German version of the Q18 questionnaire. The data were analyzed using multiple logistic regression tests. Results: Subjective symptoms of central nervous system disorders increased with tenure ≥2 years (OR = 4.19; p = 0.018) and smoking (OR = 8.91; p = 0.001). Subjective symptoms of central nervous system disorders decreased with age ≤30 years (OR = 0.17; p = 0.004), female sex (OR = 0.50; p = 0.002).Conclusions: The most dominant variable affecting the subjective symptoms of central nervous system disorders is the smoking habit variable with a probability value of 0.92 or 92%.Keywords: subjective symptoms, central nervous system disorders, workers, a printing industryCorrespondence: Samuel Marganda. Background: The Ministry of Environment noted that the average Indonesian population produces about 0.5 kg of waste per day or 125 million kg of waste from the total population of Indonesia. This condition will continue to grow in accordance with environmental conditions. The World Bank data showed that the amount of solid waste produced nationally reached 151,921 million kg of garbage per day, of which 80 percent was only collected, the rest was polluted by the environment. Waste management that is not sanitary can lead to environmental pollution. Waste generated by Subusalam municipal communities and transported to the landfill was 126 m3/ day, with service level 42% of the total amount of waste generation 542 m3/ day. This study aimed to analyze waste management in Subulussalam, Aceh, 2017. Subjects and Method: This was a descriptive qualitative study conducted at Subulussalam final waste disposal in 2017. A sample of 40 informants who worked at sanitary office was selected for this study. The data were collected by in-depth interview, questionnaire, direct observation and document review. Results: Waste management had not been based on the creation of a healthy environment due to: (1) No separation between organic and inorganic waste; (2) Waste that was not transported became a cause of accumulation. The final waste disposal system should prevent people from disturbing public health and not polluting water sources. In terms of financing, the final waste disposal showed an increasing waste management levy with an average increase of 25.2% per year. The increase in revenue from this levy should be offset by an improved waste management in the landfill. Conclusion: Waste management conducted by Subulussalam City Government as a whole has been good but not environmentally sound. Keywords: waste management, environmental, analysi

Background: Musculoskeletal complaints often occur in saleswomen who do awkward standing during work. Repair of standing position can reduce the risk of musculoskeletal pain. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of corrective work posture on alleviating musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) symptoms among saleswomen in the department store. Subjects and Method: This was a quasi experiment before and after with no control design conducted in Rantauprapat department store, North Sumatera. A sample of 30 saleswomen from the department store was selected for this study. The dependent variable was MSD scores as measured by Nordic Body Map (NBM). The independent variables were corrective work posture. The data before and after corrective work posture were compared and tested by Wilcoxon test. Results: MSD scores 1, 2, and 3 days after corrective work posture were lower than before corrective work posture, and all of them were statistically significant. Conclusions: Corrective work posture is effective to alleviate MSD symptoms among saleswomen. Keywords: musculoskeletal disorders, work posture correction, Nordic Body Ma
