    Freud's dream analysis of "Tell Me Your Dreams" by Sydney Sheldon

    As humans, our minds are divided into various different parts, and it is often our experiences that help shape the person we are. "Sigmund Freud viewed dreams as "the royal road" to the unconscious and developed dream analysis, or dream interpretation, as a way of tapping into this unconscious material." (Aurora, 389-410). This paper tries to analyze the different identities that reside within Ashley Patterson, the protagonist in "Tell Me Your Dreams," a masterpiece by none other than Sydney Sheldon, how Freud's dream analysis help us understand the chaotic state of Ashley's mind and bring us closer to the origin of her nightmares. This paper will closely review the novella by Sheldon. Keeping it as the primary source, the report will uncover the various conditions that can trigger the defense mechanism of our ego and create multiple personalities as a result. It is a descriptive paper as the writer obtains information from reviewing earlier works and the novel at large and draws a conclusion using it. The research technique used for the report is an extensive study of various library and scholarly articles on similar topics, information is gathered in the forms of books, articles, encyclopedias, or literary reviews that may have related to this study are collected and taken as the sources

    Analytical and numerical studies of photo-injected charge transport in molecularly-doped polymers

    The mobility of photo-injected charge carriers in molecularly-doped polymers (MDPs) exhibits a commonly observed, and nearly universal Poole-Frenkel field dependence, µ ~ exp [square root (ß0E)], that has been shown to arise from the correlated Gaussian energy distribution of transport sites encountered by charges undergoing hopping transport through the material. Analytical and numerical studies of photo-injected charge transport in these materials are presented here with an attempt to understand how specific features of the various models developed to describe these systems depend on the microscopic parameters that define them. Specifically, previously published time-of-flight mobility data for the molecularly doped polymer 30% DEH:PC (polycarbonate doped with 30 wt.% aromatic hydrazone DEH) is compared with direct analytical and numerical predictions of five disorder-based models, the Gaussian disorder model (GDM) of Bäassler, and four correlated disorder models introduced by Novikov, et al., and by Parris, et al. In these numerical studies, disorder parameters describing each model were varied from reasonable starting conditions, in order to give the best overall fit. The uncorrelated GDM describes the Poole-Frenkel field dependence of the mobility only at very high fields, but fails for fields lower than about 64 V/µm. The correlated disorder models with small amounts of geometrical disorder do a good over-all job of reproducing a robust Poole-Frenkel field dependence, with correlated disorder theories that employ polaron transition rates showing qualitatively better agreement with experiment than those that employ Miller-Abrahams rates. In a separate study, the heuristic treatment of spatial or geometric disorder incorporated in existing theories is critiqued, and a randomly-diluted lattice gas model is developed to describe the spatial disorder of the transport sites in a more realistic way --Abstract, page iii

    Gender disparity in Socio-Demographic variables among the Tribals of Eastern India: a case study of the Santals

    This paper gives a glimpse of the possible gender disparities that can be intimidated through various socio-demographic variables that exist among the tribals of eastern India by gaining insights from the Santals of Jharkhand, India. Data was collected from 1000 ever married women of the Santals, the largest tribal group of eastern India. The data analysis was based on data collected directly from the field using interview schedule and conclusions are based on qualitative analysis. Gender disparities are evaluated through indicators like age and sex composition, sex ratio, education, occupation, domestic violence, attitude towards female child, decision making, age at marriage and the overall status of women. Women’s work and work experience differs significantly from those of men whilst women are totally excluded from industrial work in some areas. In others, they are segregated by occupations; their average earnings being well below those of men in most forms of employment. Owing to the burden and responsibilities of a woman on the domestic front, they get less time to learn skills and work experience or get educated than men. Hence, the sexual division of labour is a matter of rational choice by the families as part of the household work strategy. Violence faced by women on the domestic front instills a continued sense of insecurity in them keeping them bound to the home, economically exploited and socially depressed

    A comparative study between dexmedetomidine and propofol for maintaining depth of anesthesia in elective craniotomy: a prospective randomized double blind study

    Background: The objective of present study was to assess the efficacy of dexmedetomidine over propofol in maintaining depth of anesthesia in patients undergoing elective craniotomy.Methods: Ninety patients of American Society of Anaesthesiologists (ASA) physical status 1 or 2, of either sex, with Glasgow Coma Score (GCS) 14 or 15, scheduled for elective craniotomy, were allocated in two groups, Group D and Group P. Each group consisted of 45 patients. Anesthesia was induced with propofol and maintained with nitrous oxide in oxygen, atracurium and intermittent fentanyl. Patients in Group D received continuous infusion of dexmedetomidine 0.4 µg/kg/hour which was started after induction and stopped after closure of dura in and patients in Group P received continuous infusion of propofol 100 µg/kg/min in same manner. Heart Rate (HR), mean arterial pressure (MAP), and bispectral index (BIS) were recorded and compared at specific time points which are known to have hemodynamic alterations throughout the intraoperative period.Results: Dexmedetomidine was comparable and even better (after intubation p 0.02, head pin fixation p 0.00, opening of dura p <0.00) than propofol in maintaining depth of anesthesia. It also attenuated HR and MAP at intubation, head pin fixation, skin incision, making of burr hole, opening of dura and at extubation (p 0.00). But Ramsay sedation score of patients after extubation in both groups did not differ significantly (p 0.36). No patient had recall.Conclusions: Dexmedetomidine is comparable with propofol in maintaining depth of anesthesia during elective craniotomy. It can be used as a sole anesthetic agent during craniotomy.

    Centralised versus decentralised monitoring in developing countries: a survey of recent research

    We consider the effectiveness of centralised and decentralised monitoring using a theoretical framework of factors affecting each approach. Centralised monitoring is more costly, yet more professional. However, the monitors themselves are not directly affected by the activity they are monitoring, so they may have less at stake in policies or services working well. By contrast, in community monitoring local people and civil society have high stakes in improving local outcomes. In the political economy literature, top-down audits have been seen as more effective in certain types of activities (like procurement) where detailed documentation exists, and where corruption can be more clearly defined as compared to mismanagement. Community monitoring has had higher efficacy when collective action problems can be solved, when monitoring teams have a sense of agency, and when the composition of teams is more homogeneous. Community monitors have deeper knowledge of local agents, so that (ceteris paribus) this approach should be less costly for the government because monitoring resources can be targeted better. However, both local monitoring and local agents may suffer from problems of elite capture
