Characterization of the Structure of Saudi Crude Asphaltenes by X-ray Diffraction

    Get PDF
Structural characterization studies have been carried out on four commercial Saudi Arabian crude oils. The aromaticity and crystallite parameters of the asphaltenes were studied by X-ray diffraction methods and compared to the average structural parameters calculated from nuclear magnetic resonance spectra

Formins Control Dynamics of F-Actin in the Central Cell of \u3ci\u3eArabidopsis thaliana\u3c/i\u3e

In the female gamete of flowering plants, sperm nuclear migration is controlled by a constant inward movement of actin filaments (F-actin) for successful fertilization. This dynamic F-actin movement is ARP2/3-independent, raising the question of how actin nucleation and polymerization is controlled in the female gamete. Using confocal microscopy live-cell imaging in combination with a pharmacological approach, we assessed the involvement of another group of actin nucleators, formins, in F-actin inward movement in the central cell of Arabidopsis thaliana. We identify that the inhibition of the formin function, by formin inhibitor SMIFH2, significantly reduced the dynamic inward movement of F-actin in the central cell, indicating that formins play a major role in actin nucleation required for F-actin inward movement in the central cell

Arabic Teachers’ Evaluation Degree of their Reading Teaching Strategies and Practices

The present study measured the Arabic teachers’ evaluation degree of their own reading teaching strategies and practices to reveal any statistically significant differences in terms of two teacher-related variables: educational qualification and years of experience. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher developed a questionnaire of 33 paragraphs distributed in three phases: pre-reading, during-reading, and post-reading. The study sample consisted of 302 female and male Arabic teachers who were selected following the simple random approach out of the total study population (730 female and male teachers). The results of the study revealed that the Arabic teachers’ evaluation degree of their reading teaching strategies was high; however, no statistically significant differences were found in terms of teachers’ educational qualification and or their years of experience. The results are pedagogically analyzed, and a number of recommendations were set forth for teaching reading and future directions of research. A Modified Overlapping Partitioning Clustering Algorithm for Categorical Data Clustering

    Get PDF
Clustering is one of the important approaches for Clustering enables the grouping of unlabeled data by partitioning data into clusters with similar patterns. Over the past decades, many clustering algorithms have been developed for various clustering problems. An overlapping partitioning clustering (OPC) algorithm can only handle numerical data. Hence, novel clustering algorithms have been studied extensively to overcome this issue. By increasing the number of objects belonging to one cluster and distance between cluster centers, the study aimed to cluster the textual data type without losing the main functions. The proposed study herein included over twenty newsgroup dataset, which consisted of approximately 20000 textual documents. By introducing some modifications to the traditional algorithm, an acceptable level of homogeneity and completeness of clusters were generated. Modifications were performed on the pre-processing phase and data representation, along with the number methods which influence the primary function of the algorithm. Subsequently, the results were evaluated and compared with the k-means algorithm of the training and test datasets. The results indicated that the modified algorithm could successfully handle the categorical data and produce satisfactory clusters
