Delphy 3D: The guardian of biodiversity of Capo Granitola
Cetacean strandings along the coasts of Sicily are considered a resource for research and scientific museology in the Mediterranean Basin. Through storytelling, the "Delphy" project presents behaviours, mysteries and anecdotes of the cetacean species in the Capo Granitola area, right in the middle of the Sicilian Channel. It enhances and disseminates the results of scientific studies in the field on species once considered "monsters" or "beastsÂť and still nicknamed the "Guardians of the Cape Granitola Lighthouse" by local people

The power of video in science communication: the EDUlab media production
finanziamenti, quali lavori scientifici supportare.
popolazione
The imaging for the the successful bio-communication: ORBS Brand
Producing accessible communication based on scientific research usually involves a great deal
of effort in translating complex concepts into a non professional oriented information, but it is
only through widely accessible data that knowledge dissemination have stronger
repercussions in society.
In concordance to this statement, the CNR IAMC and the âAccademia di Belle Arti di Palermoâ
collaborated in the work frame of the "Information, dissemination and communication system
of the Biodiversity Observatory of Sicilyâ project, a synergistic interaction between science
and art.
The researchers held biodiversity seminars to the Academy students, involving 19
professorships, aiming to increase the knowledge degree and awareness on the biodiversity,
thus stimulating their creativity.
One of the main activities carried out during this collaboration was the conceptualization and
designing of the Biodiversity Observatory brand, with the representation of biodiversity as the
main briefing.
The winning proposal was chosen between 13 projects by popular vote, with the participation
of more than 800 students and CNR researchers.
The branding is a representation of the environment with the use of different animal
silhouettes as a symbol of biodiversity. The elements are arranged on a spiral grid suggesting
movement, a current that raises deep, nutrient-rich waters to the ocean surface.
Extremely evocative and appealing, the logotype has become an integral part of the
Observatory's identity, and it's been profusely applied over the years on communication and
divulgative materials, website, exhibitions, and memorabilia.
Involving such a large number of students and their social groups (family, friends, and
etcetera) meant giving the citizens a leading role in an important activity.
Participation of the public in the creation of the graphic identity of a key structure in their
territory resulted in a dramatic increase of sensitization on the biodiversity and environmental
cause and participation in divulgation activities in the following years
Communication Action Plan
The main goal of the dissemination and communication plan is to ensure proper awareness, understanding and participation to the achievements of the conference and making the results and deliverables available to the stakeholders and to the wider audience. Communication and dissemination are essential for take-up, and take-up is crucial for the success of the project and for the sustainability of outputs in the long term. A communication and dissemination plan shows how the outcomes of the project will be shared with stakeholders, relevant institutions, organisations, and individuals.
The purpose of the Communications and Dissemination Plan is to define the communication requirements for the project and how information will be distributed. The Communication Action Plan defines the following:
â Why the information will be communicated â the purpose
â Who does the communication â the source
â Who receives the communication â the target/audience
â What information will be communicated â the message
â How the information will be communicated â the tools/ channels
â When the information will be distributed â the timing
The dissemination strategy needs to explain how the visibility of the project outputs and outcomes will be maximized, and how the project outcomes will be shared with the audience.
This Communication Action Plan sets the communications framework for the project. It will serve as a guide for communications throughout the life of the project and will be updated as communication needs change. This plan identifies and defines the roles of persons involved in the project
