The Internet and Information Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructures are transforming the future of healthcare management. The cost of healthcare delivery systems, products, and services continue to rise unabated, especially in Nigeria – a developing nation that needs technology transfer. Knowledge is one of the crucial resource and precondition to strengthen health systems. Access to knowledge has large impact on health system management and up to date patient care. The great challenges lie in the optimal utilization of rapid spreading information and communication systems (ICTs) and innovative applications such as telemedicine and e-health. Telemedicine is the practice of diagnosis, consultation and treatment between physicians and distant patients through the use of telephone and computers that transmit data for remote television viewing and treatment from a distance. The concept of telemedicine is a dream to come through in Nigeria, but if developed and taken right to the community hospitals, it can prove to be very beneficial, especially in giving timely treatment to wounded soldiers or plague patients, as a majority of the specialists prefer being stationed at big urban centers, with the rural populace being the real sufferer. Modern health information systems are a requisite for efficient and equitable resource allocation. Moreover, the Internet has pushed networking technology into the mainstream and it is without doubt the most important network, both in terms of technology advances and social impact, in the world. However, telemedicine provides a cost effective means of technological transfer both machine and expatriate advice through ICT connectivity.

Noise pollution happens to be a menace that the world is currently fighting hence, a way of controlling such pollution is needed so that in the event of passing information to a particular individual or group such information will land on the table of the recipient without constituting a menace to those around. The application of Information and Communication Technology ICT is therefore envisaged in solving this problem especially in environment where ICT is the order of the day. This paper, therefore, proposes a technological approach to solving this problem; the design and implementation of a Voice over Inter-Protocol VoIP as a means of sending voice messages from one android application to another, over a wireless network to individual, groups etc. The android platform was chosen because of its merit in portability and been able to connect to the internet easily. The VoIP has been designed, implemented and tested within the halls of residence of Covenant University, Nigeria and the result was satisfactory hence, acceptability of this work will show a great reduction in noise pollution in tertiary institutions, places of worships, and every other open spaces, events where messages need to be sent but to the specific recipient

Medium-Term Load Forecasting Of Covenant University Using The Regression Analysis Methods

    Get PDF
Electric load forecasting is principal to the economic and efficient provision of electric power to meet various load demands for a specified period of time. The focus of this paper is on the medium-term load forecast of Covenant University, a Nigerian tertiary educational institution, using the methods of regression analysis. The hourly load information collected from the University’s electric power substation is employed as the sample data for the forecast. Three models based on the linear, compound-growth, and cubic methods of regression analysis are developed, and the load forecast results obtained from these models are compared using the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) and root mean square error (RMSE) performance metrics. It is observed that, among these three models, the linear model has the best error margin: 0.5792 and 41.34 for MAPE and RMSE, respectively

    Get PDF
Home Automation is the interconnection of electrical devices in a household together to perform a function without human intervention. Home Automation can be many different things. It may be remote lighting control, it may be setting your lights and temperature on a schedule to conserve energy and make sure you come home to a warm, well-lit house every night, and so on. In this work, we design and implement a device that would detect the presence or movement of persons in a room and switch on the light (240V) if this condition is true and off if false, and also turn on or off the fan in the room based on a certain temperature of the room and if a presence or movement is detected

Background: Aging is a natural progressive process that leads to aesthetic and functional changes in the skin. The aim of this research work is to formulate and evaluate a polyherbal antioxidant face cream using the ethanol extracts of psidium guajava and ocimum gratissimum.Method: The ethanol extract of the herbs was incorporated at varying concentrations into six different emulsion bases. Antioxidant activity of the formulations was assessed using 2, 2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl method. The formulations were evaluated for pH, viscosity, spreadability and microbial content. Accelerated stability tests were performed on all the formulations to assess stability at varying storage conditions. Results: All the formulations showed good spread ability, good consistency, homogeneity, appearance, pH without phase separation occurring. Rheological tests showed that the all formulations exhibited non-Newtonian pseudo plastic flow. All six formulations also showed concentration dependent antioxidant activity. Ascorbic acid a potent antioxidant served as the standard for these tests. Formulation AFCR6 showed the highest antioxidant activity with IC50 value of 80.1 μg/mL.Conclusion: The polyherbal antioxidant cream containing extracts of Psidium guajava and Ocimum gratissimum have been shown to have excellent antioxidants properties. It can serve to protect the skin from reactive oxygen species created by UV radiation and environmental toxin, thus protecting the skin from photo aging. Keywords: Anti-oxidant, Face cream, Psidium guajava, Ocimum gratissimu

Developed Model to Control Congestion on Converge Network

    Get PDF
Congestion control techniques like Active Queue Management (AQM), Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Carrier Detection (CSMA/CD) have not proven to be very efficient in the presence of overwhelming complex converge network. Thus, vast packets in a complex converged network leads to collisions, network degradation and high degree of packet loss. Bandwidth utilization factor has a high effect on the network such that controlling the level of utilization via the management of the number of users and the amount of packets on the network rendered the latency very insignificant. As a consequence of this, high throughput and very minimal packet loss was achieved in the experiment. This was confirmed analytically by varying the utilization factor between 40% and 90% while keeping other parameters in the experiment constan

Design, simulation and implementation of a PID vector control for EHVPMSM for an automobile with hybrid technology

    Get PDF
This work proposes a Model design simulation and implementation of a novel engine of an Electric Hybrid Vehicle of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (EHVPMSM) based on field oriented vector control. The experimental analysis was carried out using: automotive motor control MTRCKTSPS5604P, 3-Phase PMSM coded of a single Motor Control Kit with MPC5604P MCU and simulation with Simulink. Therefore, the direct torque control can be obtained by adjusting the magnitude and phase angle of the stator flux linkage to match the vector torque required by the load as fast as possible. This eradicates the stress of charging the vehicle battery. It automatically charges when it is connected to the main supply of the EHVPMSM. The electromagnetic torque can be increased from 0 Nm to 6.7 Nm in approximately 340 μs. The response of speed transient was from −2100 rpm to +2100 rpm in 100 ms of 6.7 Nm torque limit. This is a novel way of conserving the energy consumption in a vehicle, which conserves space and weight and minimizes cost as it is simply done with low-cost materials. In this research, a new mathematical model is proposed for the direct and quadrature axis of the current to control the speed mechanism for the engine. Computer simulation ensures experimental validation of the system with a percentage error of 4.5%. The methodology employed to control the system was with the use of various sensors and software controller, this can be easily implemented in industry and institutional laboratory of learning.
