Exosomes and microvesicles, collectively referred to as small extracellular vesicles (sEV) are vesicles with an average size of about 100-150 nm. Currently, the role of sEV in various aspects of signaling in the body is being actively investigated; in addition, sEV can often serve as markers of various pathologies. The active study of the sEV composition is continuing. In this study we have demonstrated that in sEV it is possible to determine cholesterol and triglycerides concentration by using commercial kits designed for serum. The technique was tested on sEV from the blood of patients diagnosed with depression and on healthy volunteers. No differences were found in the concentration of cholesterol and triglycerides in mEV from the blood serum of depressed patients and the control group. The concentration of cholesterol and triglycerides in the samples is several times higher than the sensitivity threshold of the methods set by the manufacturer of the kits.

Algorithm for detecting the latent mastitis state of animals in a dairy farms on the based of data fusion from different types sensors

Основная статьяThe problem of latent mastitis identification in livestock enterprises is analyzed. The necessity of automatizing the mastitis identification process is shown. Biological methods for determining the presence of the disease are considered in the article. Common methods of data fusion for the extraction of an informative trait is analyzed in the work. A new algorithm for identifying mastitis in animals based on data fusion from the livestock enterprise sensors is proposed. The developed algorithm as compared to the conventional method of determining mastitis increases the accuracy of the disease's identification by 6.5 percent

Following Gluonic World Lines to Find the QCD Coupling in the Infrared

Using a parametrization of the Wilson loop with the minimal-area law, we calculate the polarization operator of a valence gluon, which propagates in the confining background. This enables us to obtain the infrared freezing (i.e. finiteness) of the running strong coupling in the confinement phase, as well as in the deconfinement phase up to the temperature of dimensional reduction. The momentum scale defining the onset of freezing is found both analytically and numerically. The nonperturbative contribution to the thrust variable, originating from the freezing, makes the value of this variable closer to the experimental one.Comment: 25 pages, 5 figure

Towards the String representation of the dual Abelian Higgs model beyond the London limit

We perform a path-integral analysis of the string representation of the dual Abelian Higgs (DAH) model beyond the London limit, where the string describing the vortex of a flux tube has a finite thickness. We show that besides an additional vortex core contribution to the string tension, a modified Yukawa interaction appears as a boundary contribution in the type-II dual superconducting vacuum. In the London limit, the modified Yukawa interaction is reduced to the Yukawa one.Comment: 13 pages, JHEP3.cls is used, no figures. The version accepted for publication in JHE

Relative locality: A deepening of the relativity principle

We describe a recently introduced principle of relative locality which we propose governs a regime of quantum gravitational phenomena accessible to experimental investigation. This regime comprises phenomena in which \hbar and GNG_N may be neglected, while their ratio, the Planck mass Mp=/GNM_p =\sqrt{\hbar / G_N}, is important. We propose that MpM_p governs the scale at which momentum space may have a curved geometry. We find that there are striking consequences for the concept of locality. The description of events in spacetime now depends on the energy used to probe it. But there remains an invariant description of physics in phase space. There is furthermore a reasonable expectation that the geometry of momentum space can be measured experimentally using astrophysical observations.Comment: 8 pages, Latex; this essay was awarded Second Prize in the 2011 Essay Competition of the Gravity Research Foundatio

Backward diode composed of a metallic and semiconducting nanotube

The conditions necessary for a nanotube junction connecting a metallic and semiconducting nanotube to rectify the current are theoretically investigated. A tight binding model is used for the analysis, which includes the Hartree-Fock approximation and the Green's function method. It is found that the junction has a behavior similar to the backward diode if the gate electrode is located nearby and the Fermi level of the semiconducting tube is near the gap. Such a junction would be advantageous since the required length for the rectification could be reduced.Comment: 4 pages, RevTeX, uses epsf.st

A model for string-breaking in QCD

    Get PDF
We present a model for string breaking based on the existence of chromoelectric flux tubes. We predict the form of the long-range potential, and obtain an estimate of the string breaking length. A prediction is also obtained for the behaviour with temperature of the string breaking length near the deconfinement phase transition. We plan to use this model as a guide for a program of study of string breaking on the lattice.Comment: 7 pages, minor improvements of the text and of the reference lis

The article deals with two large-scale man-made emergencies – the accident at the Bhapal chemical plant in 1984 and the breakthrough of the Banqiao dam in 1985. Both disasters resulted in a large number of victims, as the scene was located close to populated areas. The data on the measures taken to evacuate the victims, provide medical assistance and organize rescue operations are presented.

Buffer layer-assisted growth of Ge nanoclusters on Si

In the buffer layer-assisted growth method, a condensed inert gas layer of xenon, with low-surface free energy, is used as a buffer to prevent direct interactions of deposited atoms with substrates. Because of␣an unusually wide applicability, the buffer layer-assisted growth method has provided a unique avenue for creation of nanostructures that are otherwise impossible to grow, and thus offered unprecedented opportunities for fundamental and applied research in nanoscale science and technology. In this article, we review recent progress in the application of the buffer layer-assisted growth method to the fabrication of Ge nanoclusters on Si substrates. In particular, we emphasize the novel configurations of the obtained Ge nanoclusters, which are characterized by the absence of a wetting layer, quasi-zero dimensionality with tunable sizes, and high cluster density in comparison with Ge nanoclusters that are formed with standard Stranski-Krastanov growth methods. The optical emission behaviors are discussed in correlation with the morphological properties
